The Queen and most of her family made an appearance at Woodlands Day Nursery in Barnet for a special royal birthday party and a charity fund-raising cake sale.

Decorating the day nursery in Orchard Road, High Barnet, with a life-size cardboard photograph of the Monarch, the children crafted crowns and a special birthday card which was posted to Buckingham Palace.

Manager, Melina Koulakis, said children and staff, who wore red, white and blue or princess costumes for the occasion, enjoyed taking it in turns to wear party masks featuring members of the royal family.

“Where there is fun there is always learning and creativity. We have loved every minute of these celebrations; particularly posing for photographs with ‘Our Queen’. She is an excellent role model for our children as we teach them about the importance of dedication, tolerance and respect,” she said thanking parents for their support.

Chef John Adjei made a royal tea party, which included smoked salmon sandwiches, and pre-schoolers, helped by ‘star baker’, practitioner Dannii Healey, made a large cake for tea and Victoria Sponge and strawberry slices which were sold in aid of the Children’s Air Ambulance, a charity adopted by the nursery for a year-long fund-raising drive.

The charity survives entirely on donations and has just one helicopter covering the entire country providing rapid response times to trauma and medical emergency for babies and children.
