Both my daughters attended this nursery, they both were very comfortable with all the staff and enjoyed going. The meals prepared for the children are healthy home-cooked meals that open the children up to exploring more foods. The forest school area provided hours of fun for the girls, who usually
came home wanting to carry on the bear or dragon hunt.

My daughter moved to Hollybank a year ago after 2 plus years at a previous nursery. At first, the transition was really hard for her, and the Holly Bank staff were so patient and supportive while she found her feet.
She's really thrived in the past year and is a much more confident child. The staff
couldn't be better and we always get lots of feedback on her progress and what she's been up to on her days there.
The setting is great, and they do a brilliant range of activities to keep the children engaged.

Strengths - The outside facilities. Focus on health and wellbeing. Staff generally good and friendly upon collection. My boys enjoy good relationships with lots of the members of staff. Good at proactively flagging any incidents to ensure we’re aware of anything to look out for e.g bumps/grazes. Some
of the holiday club activities. Variety is good and involves visits to support wider development, e.g. visit to supermarket to purchase recipe ingredients for baking that day. Opportunities - Admin is poor. Billing is frustrating - holiday club fees are not updated in bills and parents expected to re-calculate. Multiple emails involving lots of back and forth. Minimal visibility of holiday club dates. I’ve had to chase this several times - often only a couple of weeks in advance despite Kirklees releasing full-year term dates. Food menus rarely get updated in reception areas. Today’s menu (Wednesday 17th April showing Monday menu) why have them on display when not updated? Basement still not repaired.

Reply from Julie Lister, Nursery Manager at Portland House Nursery & After School / Holiday Club

Thank you for your review, your feedback is important to us. We're glad to hear you feel the boys have made good relationships with the staff team. The menus are emailed to parents prior to the start of the menu and they can always be found on our website. Our terms state all fees are payable in advance, the holiday club sessions can be booked throughout the year on an ad-hoc basis. The booking sheet is inclusive of the session details and any extra trip costs to enable parents to calculate the cost of the sessions they are booking to organise their payment. The booking form is mailed out the month before each holiday after any outings/events have been secured and risk assessed, involving the children by incorporating their ideas and suggestions into the planning. We're excited to reopen our Fun Club after a full renovation was required due to a flood during the Christmas break. We will be announcing the official date very soon and it will be open in time for the next holiday club.

We are over the moon with our child's progress within the Bluebells preschool room. She always leaves so happy and full of energy after having lots of fun. One of the staff members is a fantastic key worker and whenever I get the opportunity to see her, she always keeps me updated on what my child has
been doing and how she is getting on. She is always encouraging my child and helping her develop.
Also a special mention to another staff member who my child has also developed a great bond with. She is lots of fun and her relationship with the children is brilliant, she is so kind and caring. My child loves being 'crazy' with this staff member (my child's words).
The stay and play sessions have been great and I attended one where I could be involved in the French lesson. This is such a good idea and it was brilliant seeing all of the children engage and really enjoy it.
Overall, we couldn't be happier with Portland House and very glad we could send both of our girls here.

My eldest son attended Portland Nursery a number of years back so it was a given that my youngest would attend also due to the high standards and family nature of the nursery. My son loves the nursery as do I, the staff are brilliant, the nursery setting and activities that are carried out are fantastic.
I know my child is getting a healthy meal each day and he loves the snacks provided by the chef at the end of each day! They really go above and beyond which is reflected in the price.

They are doing absolutely amazing with my child and he is developing so much. I am so glad that I picked this nursery for him I wouldn’t change his nursery at all. His speech is coming on so much better and his socialising skills are better. He loves nursery so much and I know he is happy safe and content
so that’s all that matters to me and knowing he is developing.

Staff are very friendly with my child who loves coming in. My eldest child also attends for holiday club, which they also love. The outdoor space is fantastic, and I really appreciate that the children are out in all weather (in appropriate clothing!). I feel that both my children are very well cared

Fairfield Nursery has always been there to support both my child and me. They ensure that my child has everything in place that he needs in order to help with his speech. They set up regular meetings so that we can keep track of his progress. The only thing which I would like to comment on is the amount
of meat which he no longer gets at mealtimes compared to when he first started.

My child really enjoys attending Fairfield Nursery. She comes home with a different story about what she’s done at nursery every single day, showing she’s taken part in lots of different and new things. She has a really good relationship with the staff & has come on leaps and bounds since attending.
Cannot fault.

My son has attended Holly Bank Nursery for just over 2 years now, he loves going to nursery. The staff are great and are very helpful & understanding. Feedback is given every day and is detailed, staff are always welcoming and happy. My child has learnt so much and talks about his day at nursery and
how involved he gets (helping a member of staff) in little jobs as it shows him good role model skills. This member of staff always puts in the extra effort to help him with his learning and knowledge. I would 100% recommend the nursery to others.

Our experience of Holly Bank Nursery has been excellent from the very first time we visited to this day.
Our son took very little time to settle into nursery life and has gone from strength to strength ever since. Each of his transitions to toddlers and now to preschool have been smooth and he’s very
happy and comfortable with his surroundings, staff and peers.
He always has us a tale or two to tell at the end of each day about what he’s been up to, who with and what he’s enjoyed playing.
He’s had several key workers in his time and each of them has been so lovely, communicated with us brilliantly and helped him to progress and thrive!

My son has attended Holly Bank Nursery since he was 1 year old and he is now 3.5 years old, confident, lively and full of information! Holly Bank has encouraged him to explore, learn and express himself. The facilities are fabulous and give the children space to choose the activities they want to take
part in. He has always been a good eater but the food at Holly Bank has undoubtedly fuelled his enjoyment for cooking (and eating!) with a great menu, home-cooked from fresh ingredients.
They have supported us, as parents, to navigate each new stage of his development and we couldn’t be happier with the care he has received there. The staff are kind, caring and incredibly knowledgeable about the children and this is evident in his excitement to talk about the activities they take part in, the daily feedback we receive, as well as the app updates. We feel so lucky to have been able to get a place at Holly Bank.

Our daughter joined prior to starting school age, bless her, as she was at after school club where I work. The transition from starting reception and also a different after-school club was worrying. However, we were pleasantly surprised and happy when we went to look around at the after-school club.
The staff, including management, have been wonderful. Our daughter spends time as well in holiday club. She always comes home happy as she has had a fantastic day. Our daughter is an outside girl. As well, I want to say that they are very accommodating, especially when I was ill. I had to ring up to ask if they could have her for that day. Obviously, they squeezed her in. Which gave me time to rest. Our daughter has made a lot of friends at Portland House Nursery & After School / Holiday Club which is lovely. Also, I have made some as well.

My son has been attending Portland for about 6 years. The staff have been excellent in supporting and teaching him new things. He often came home with new knowledge. When he reached school age, they prepared him for the transition in their preschool room by explaining what would happen when he went
to school. Since starting school he has been attending after-school club which he loves as he can play with his friends. He also goes to the holiday club and does various activities which are educational or just simply playing with friends either indoors or exploring outdoors weather permitting. The food is excellent and nutritional and he always looks to see if there are any goodies left over for him to bring home.
