Happy Jays York

My daughter has been attending Happy Jays York since the back end of 2023 and I couldn’t recommend this nursery enough! We had to take our daughter out of her previous nursery due to safety concerns which left us very wary and extremely nervous when looking for another placement, until she joined Happy
Jays. All the staff are beyond brilliant and really put their all into creating a happy, fun and safe environment for all the children attending. My daughter has come on leaps and bounds since joining and has completely come out of her shell socially. Our daughter’s key worker is fantastic and she has built such a special bond with her and has our complete trust when it comes to our daughter. Each day is never the same at Happy Jay’s as they are always doing something new, creative and fun with the children. As parents, both me and my husband have complete confidence in this nursery. Thank you Happy Jays for letting us relax when dropping her off, knowing she is in capable hands.

This nursery is such a great place for my grandson. He loves to go and doesn't look back. The facilities are great. Plenty to keep any child busy. The staff are such a great bunch. They treat my grandson as the little individual that he is. They know what he likes and doesn't like. They are organised
and although there is plenty of outdoor play there are also lots of activities where everybody gets involved.
They work with parents to make sure that there are plans in place to help where there are development needs however the development of all of the children is important to them
My grandson is so comfortable with the staff at the nursery and he has come on so much since starting there.
Although communication was okay it was an area which needed improvement and it has. When I pick him up I get a rundown of his morning, what he has done, what he has eaten etc.
Happy Jays in York recently received a 'good' rating from Ofsted and I believe this is so well deserved. They are such a great team.

I couldn’t be more happier with Happy Jays York if I tried! My son has come on leaps and bounds since joining and it’s all down to their fantastic team. Yes, there has been some bumps in the road but as an ex-deputy manager of a nursery I understand it isn’t always smooth sailing with staffing etc.
The staff they have in place at the moment are great and each and every one of them have made time to build a relationship with my son and myself!
I know my son is in very safe hands when I drop him off and his development so far just proves that this is the correct nursery for him to attend!

There are far better, adequate nurseries than Happy Jays. I do not recommend. Just read the Ofsted report from September. Between May and September, this nursery went from needs improving to inadequate and there's a reason for it. Poor management, consistently using agency staff that don't know the
children. They did try to use the same staff, but it wasn't always possible. The number of times I went in to collect my son to be greeted by different staff was ridiculous. High turnover of permanent staff, I counted at least 6 in 4 months.
I had to fight to be allowed back in the nursery to collect my son.
There were multiple times my son had napped late afternoon and when I mentioned he shouldn't be napping, the standard response was 'oh should he not'. Most likely because the staff aren't permanent and it would be time-consuming to update all the different agency staff!
Communication on what was going on at the nursery was limited. Over 2 months there were just 5 observations uploaded to.

Wow! What a truly outstanding nursery that really has gone above and beyond for my son. My son has additional needs and allergies, and the nursery and all of the staff went out of their way to accommodate every need for him. I can't recommend this nursery enough and I'm so grateful he attended this
nursery. They have given him the best possible start I could have wished for and I am truly grateful to them for this. You deserve all the recognition and more. Thank you to all the staff at Happy Jays York. Absolutely amazing.

This nursery is absolutely brilliant. My little girl loves Happy Jays, she's had an excellent start to her educational journey and the support she has had through a language delay and the need for grommets has been exceptional. The staff have so much time for her it is a pleasure to bring her. There
is so much for the children to do and has a very close knit feel to the setting. I couldn't recommend this nursery any more than I already do, I tell family and friends all the time how great they all are with her. Keep up the good work it's amazing.

My little boy started at Happy Jays when he was 9 months old, he has always been happy there and has never had a problem transitioning from room to room, I feel this is due to the caring staff and brilliant practices they have in place. He has now left to go to school and I think he has had a great
start due to the care given at the nursery, nothing was ever too much trouble. Now my little girl has started in the baby room and couldn't be happier, she is thriving. The food in the nursery is well cooked and very nutritious with a great variety of different foods on the menu.

My little boy is now nearly 4 and has attended the nursery since he was 4 months old, the care he received as a baby right through to pre school has been outstanding. Nothing is too much trouble for the girls. He has made life long friendships with his all key persons throughout the nursery. He is
now due to start at our local school nursery. Having been at Happy Jays has prepared him in so many ways. He is well advanced for his age and I believe this is down to the teaching and learning that he has received from all the staff. The nursery is bright and open with an added nursery garden which is a great place to learn about the world around them, this is something my son enjoys as he loves been outdoors. All the staff are friendly and polite who all seem to really enjoy what they do.
