Our son has been going to Red Bus in Downend for 2 years now and they've been so helpful and caring every step of the way. Their admin staff are so prompt and knowledgeable and all the staff in each room we've encountered have been great. Especially since our son's move to the kindergarten room, they've
helped so much with his development and bringing him out of his shell.
The staff genuinely really care for the kids and the food is always lovely too. They make the funding and free hours really easy to process too. I've got friends and family who also send their children here and really glad I listened to their recommendations.

This review relates to a specific incident that was so amazingly dealt with, I had to share!
There was an incident where a child became quite poorly when having lunch in a communal area, and as a mum of another child who goes to Red Bus, I'm really comforted to hear how amazing the situation was dealt
with. I can only imagine how scary those kinds of situations are, and I have no idea how I would react, so fair play to the team for confidently and compassionately managing the situation and the other children!
For some context, I have a nephew with additional physical needs (easily choked when he was younger and needed supervision) and I remember my sister feeling upset when a couple of nurseries she looked at for him were obviously (and understandably) not confident in managing him, and the relief she felt when finding a nursery that was able to react to medical emergencies. I really appreciate, and I'm so grateful for, the Red Bus team and hope they know how amazing they are.

Thank you so much for your kind words! We are also incredibly proud of our amazing team for how they managed that incident, it means a lot to know families appreciate it too.

Red Bus nursery is amazing: both my children have attended from the age of 6 months and absolutely flourished - the activities and resources have given the best possible environment for my two children, who are both happy, confident and sociable little people. The professionality, attention to detail
and safety are obvious from this well run nursery. Whenever there have been issues staff have approached me in an honest and constructive way and I have built an excellent relationship with them. But what I value the most is the close relationships that the staff built with my children - they really care about them as individuals. I can't speak more highly of this great nursery!

Our son has been at Katey's since he was 1 and has been through Cherries, Plums and Apples. He has had a wonderful experience. The staff have all been so caring with him and lovely to us too! Really lovely parents' evenings, progress reports and daily updates via the app which means pick-up is efficient
and can focus on the softer elements rather than food/nappies etc! Small but lovely outside space and love the gardening sessions and the frequent trips out to Bushy and Langdon Park. Highly recommend and based on discussions with other parents, a much more personalised approach than other bigger nursery chains.

Katey's Nursery and Pre-school is a fantastic nursery. Our daughter was in Apples and during her time there her confidence and curiosity grew. The room leader (now deputy manager) is fantastic - absolutely loves his job and very good with the children. We loved the routine involving; taking outside
shoes off and wearing slippers, writing their name for ‘registration’, cleaning teeth after lunch, trips out to the park. The whole nursery is very clean and has a friendly ‘pre-school’ feel. Would highly recommend.

My son was there since this nursery opened last year and we could not be more happy about it! Is not easy for a 2-3 year old to spend 10 hours a day without Mom and Dad, but he totally loved going there and the teachers were lovely. We have now moved to school, but I am very grateful to Katey's Nursery!
The unique features were the regular good quality insights provided by the teachers twice a year regarding the kids' development and the amazing performances pulled together with little ones for Christmas and summer time.

This is an enthusiastic and caring nursery run by the manager with a team that goes above and beyond in helping the little ones settle in and grow in confidence. Our daughter started off very shy and she blossomed into a lovely little lady under a member of staff with good care and warmth. Smallish
outside space but they make up for it with daily outside visits to the park which was a highlight for us.

Just a fabulous nursery with incredible staff. I am blown away by the range of thoughtfully designed activities my daughter has access to each day. The knowledge and thought that goes into creating such extensive activities, is visible in how full of energy and enthusiasm she is each day when we pick
her up. The staff are loving, professional, and the communication with parents is excellent. We feel very lucky to have our daughter at Katey's Nursery & Pre-school.

We removed our 3 y/o within 2 weeks due to concerns with its management.
4 things I wish I'd known:
1. Whether your child's key worker will be doing full days and if not, who will be responsible for your child when they are not there (only after settling in were we made aware the key worker only worked
mornings)
2. How often the older children will be mixed in with the younger children - from our experience it was every afternoon (meaning a single big group with an age range of 2-5)
3. What accounts for an 'incident' the nursery will tell parents about - our child came home with multiple bruises (legs, neck and under chin) and a clear account of how it happened that afternoon - yet the nursery seemed completely unaware/unable to explain
4. What their complaint process is - after raising concerns about safeguarding, a company director sent an email (without ever talking to us) which made no meaningful attempt to address any of them and every attempt to make out we were the issue.

Reply from Kateys Nursery & Pre-School at Katey's Nursery & Pre-school Teddington

Dear KF

During your brief 8-day tenure at our nursery, which followed your child's departure from another childcare facility, you engaged in a series of damaging and malicious incidents that left a significant and long-lasting impact on our staff and operations. In our 20 years of nurturing lovely children and collaborating with remarkable parents, yours and your spouse’s behaviour stands out as uniquely disruptive and upsetting.

The incidents included:

1. Both parents shouting at and verbally abusing our Manager.
2. Presenting photographs of nursery children on a phone from our newsletter while attempting to persuade our staff to identify a 3-year-old whom you had become convinced was bullying your child
3. Endeavours to have another child removed from our nursery
4. Implied accusations of racism on our part, due to our celebration of Africa week - our Manager, who was African, was proud of the celebration she arranged for the children and for the opportunity to share her culture.
5. Filing untrue and malicious complaints with Ofsted and the Local Early Years Advisor, alleging various issues that they subsequently investigated and concluded that our practices were indeed "outstanding", and your complaints “invented and unpleasant”. You caused so much hurt and distraction to our hard working and caring team by doing this.
6. An attempt to access our nursery premises after the termination of your contract by following another parent through our security gates. A very scary experience for the staff member who spotted you.
7. Registering and creating a profile for our newly opened nursery on Google to leave a negative review, and persisting in sharing negative feedback on daynurseries.co.uk, who sadly publish these kinds of things.

All of this occurred within the short span of 8 days, and because we tried to reassure you your child was not being “bullied” by another 3 year old… Something you were having none of.

No childcare setting or staff deserves a reaction like yours, we feel very unlucky it was our setting you chose. We genuinely hope that you have found a nursery that brings happiness and tranquillity to your family.

Yours Sincerely,

Kateys Nursery & Pre-School

So pleased with Red Bus Nursery & Pre-School - Downend - staff are friendly and always happy to help and hear and deal with any concerns and worries. My daughter has been attending for over a year and asks every day if she’s going to nursery today! She comes running to me when I collect her telling
me all the activities she has done that day and who she’s played with. Happy child happy mummy!

The nursery seems to provide a good level of learning, care and resources. The nursery staff have been very supportive and caring of my child. Initially, reception staff were a bit abrupt but have since been friendlier. I generally think the nursery provides a good level of service but I am unsure why
they are so more expensive than other nurseries.

My daughter has been attending Red Bus since April 2017 and we’ve all been very happy with the nursery. The building is light and roomy and suits the different ages and activities well. There are a lot of activities offered such as a water room, forest school, a yurt with natural toys, plus chickens.
The best thing is the staff though, as they seem very caring, respectful, fun and attentive. It’s clear a lot of thought has gone into the structure, methods and training, but with the development of the child still at the centre. My daughter has gained so much with language, imaginative play, and friendships in a setting that has a great balance of letting children learn through play, and I love how much she can go outside to play. She also enjoys the variety of food which seems to be nutritious and good quality.

Red Bus is a well equipped, clean, bright and engaging environment. Staff are helpful and caring, making the whole experience really pleasant for us and our nearly two-year-old. The updates during the day via the 'parent zone' app is really great for keeping us in the loop during the day. Would highly
recommend the Red Bus for anyone considering nursery for their baby.

Our daughter has attended Red Bus since April 2018 when she started at 10 1/2 months old upon my return to work. Since day one the team has made us all feel welcome and supported a smooth transition into nursery life. The staff are incredibly friendly and it is obvious how much they care for each of
the children and work so hard to support their development. We have been amazed at how fast our daughter has developed since starting nursery and it's great to see her learning new things every single day. I have absolute trust in the team to deliver the highest standards of care to our daughter and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Red Bus to anyone looking for childcare.

Red Bus has been a lifeline for our family. Our son has recently been diagnosed with Autism, and in addition, has severe speech delay. It's been a tough few months, however the SENCO and the Red Bus team have supported us with implementing the relevant support. We are given updates of our son's progress
and what makes it meaningful for us is that it is delivered with genuine care and encouragement.

We increased our hours as it became apparent that our son's progression was firmly linked with his days at preschool. We feel the team go beyond our expectations as child care providers, to us, without sounding trite, they are family. Our elder son used to attend two years ago and loves popping in for a chat with the team.

Our son is soon to be moving on to school, we have been reassured that his transition is going to be supported (important as change can be challenging). I wish that families in our situation could have access to child care providers such as Red Bus. We feel very lucky.

We have been using Red Bus since 2014.

We were instantly at ease with the staff and setting at Red Bus and felt that they would offer our children the best care.

The setting is varied with lots of activities to keep them stimulated, entertained and help them develop.

We found the baby

room a relaxing environment for the first step of childcare. There is plenty of stimulation for the babies and the ParentZone app gives great comfort.

The transitions between rooms are smooth with the settling days making this as stress-free as possible.

The key workers really care about ensuring the children have had a good day and provide feedback each day. Where we are trying to introduce something at home (e.g. potty training), the staff always look to help which makes this much easier.

Some of our favourite things about Red Bus are the garden and Forest School. Forest School especially is a massive plus and something that both kids really enjoy.

We cannot recommend Red Bus enough.
