The Review Score of 9.4 (9.417) out of 10 for Skippers Hill Manor Preparatory School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.
The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.
The Average Rating of 4.917 for Skippers Hill Manor Preparatory School is calculated as follows: ( (55 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.917
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').
The 4.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Skippers Hill Manor Preparatory School is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 number of registered child places is 4.8, which has been reached with 5 Positive reviews. Points = 1
When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Head of Early Years
Joined: 2013
Montessori Dipl, BA Early Years, EYPS.
What led you to teaching?
I decided I wanted to be a teacher at the age of 7 because I loved school and was lucky enough to have inspirational teachers in both the schools I attended. I have worked as an Early Years teacher for more than 30 years, and have enjoyed every moment. The most rewarding part of my job is being able to witness the progress and development of the children in my care. In the Early Years of teaching, there are many special ‘wow’ moments, as the children make such rapid and visible progress. Every day is different, as each child contributes new ideas and new questions which inspire our teaching.
What inspires you and what do you do?
I am very proud to be part of an outstanding Early Years team at Skippers. Every staff member has their own ‘specialism’, such as a passion for providing a rich environment, an enthusiasm for outdoor learning, a deep knowledge of Schema theory or a strong interest in language acquisition. We work together for the benefit of every small person we are lucky enough to welcome into our Nursery. We strongly believe that a child who feels safe and loved will thrive. Skippers is a very happy place to work and play!
What do you enjoy doing outside of school?
My interests outside school include reading, sewing, dog walking on Ashdown Forest and spending time with my large, loud family, several of whom are also teachers! I also enjoy keeping up with new research and developments in the Early Years field.
Job Title: Assistant Head of Nursery
Joined: 2021
MA in Early Years Education, BA (Hons) History and EYTS.
What led you to teaching?
The birth of my daughter in 2019 led me to the literature surrounding the significance of the early years and I have never looked back. It became clear to me that I had a passion for this research and prompted me to study for a Masters in Early Years Education alongside my Early Years Teachers status.
What inspires you and what do you do?
The early years (0-5) are the most significant years in a person’s life and this knowledge inspires and motivates me every day. I am so rewarded by the enthusiasm and joy I see on the faces of the children we teach and care for, and their staggering rate of development keeps me motivated and innovative!
I am passionate about offering diverse, engaging and exciting learning opportunities which value, respect and reflect the individuality of the children. This is the perfect partner for the independent, self-led and intrinsically motivated learning I see occurring spontaneously in children.
What do you love most about Skippers?
The warmth and friendliness. The home-from-home feel is clear through the dispositions of the children. This gives the children the confidence to live, learn and thrive.
Who was your most inspirational or influential teacher?
My most influential teacher was my A-Level History teacher. She was incredibly knowledgeable, hardworking and approachable. Yet most of all, she saw the best in me and this allowed me to see the best in myself. She became my primary inspiration for studying History at the undergraduate level.
