Welcome to Burgh Wood Montessori Nursery School and Pre-School. Their mission is for every child to be happy and healthy, enjoying their early years at the setting, and to work closely in partnership with parents to provide quality education in a nurturing environment for two to five year olds. The nursery school follows the Montessori philosophy which promotes independence, a child’s love for learning and a respect for self, others, the community and the world.

The experienced teachers are passionate about child development and follow the “Birth to 5” Matters curriculum which ensures that the unique child’s needs are met. The team constantly challenge a child’s abilities to ensure that they are well prepared to move on to their next big step when transitioning to primary school.

They have regular visits from ‘Boogie Beats’ and they also are proud of their close relationship with Banstead Manor Care Home where the children are regular visitors and are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities with the residents. They also provide weekly Forest School sessions for children aged three years and upwards to experience new challenges in an on-site outdoor environment.

In January 2022, they will be moving to new permanent and purpose built premises at 40 Brighton Road, Banstead, which is just a short distance from their existing location and which will provide a large, bright open plan environment with a large outdoor play area incorporating a forest school area and a variety of modern equipment providing children with a stimulating environment in which to thrive.

The team look forward to meeting you at Burgh Wood Montessori Nursery School!

Fantastic nursery. My son, who had never been in an early years setting, settled so quickly and loves all of the staff. I really feel the team are setting him up for starting school next year. I can't thank the team enough.

Our daughter started at Burgh Wood Montessori Nursery School September 2022 and has just moved into primary school. The transition to the nursery was personal and nurturing right from the start. The Burgh Wood principal and team are amazing with daily communication, reassurance, guidance and support.
The nursery itself is modern, clean, warm and welcoming.
Such an amazing environment inside and out for learning, being creative and exploring.
Our daughter has flourished being at Burgh Wood and has given her a great head start to her life at primary school. We will certainly miss the Burgh Wood family.

My son really enjoys going to Burgh Wood Montessori Nursery School, this is down to the professional team including a dedicated manager, giving him opportunities and support to develop in all areas. My son had a fantastic first year and he is thriving. The feedback and communication I receive from nursery
are exceptional, from dairy updates, observations raised and from his end-of-term report. I am really looking forward to my son's next year at this nursery school.

All staff provide such outstanding care for little ones. I am enjoying having such a pleasant experience and the communication is second to none amongst such friendly

We couldn't be happier with our choice to send our daughter to this nursery and want to thank the principal and her team for their incredible care of our daughter.
This nursery setting offers great flexibility for working parents whilst also providing a safe, enjoyable and positive environment for
children's learning and development. Our daughter has blossomed during her time here, loving every minute and has made great friends.
The nursery has fully prepared our daughter to start school in September and has supported her whilst becoming a big sister during her time here. We really can't thank them enough and whilst we're sad to be moving on, we look forward to returning with our second daughter once she turns 2.

I am so pleased to have found this nursery. My son settled in so quickly & looks forward to going every day. His key worker and the other nursery staff are always so smiley & welcoming to him and I really feel there's a nurturing, loving environment here with lots of stimulating activities.
Would recommend this nursery to all & thank you for all your hard work with the children.

My 2 year old son started Burgh Wood in August. After 2.5 years at home with me. Myself and my partner were nervous about him starting this new journey. I had seen a quite a number of nurseries and none were 100% to our liking. Burgh Wood was the last on my list to visit and I was not disappointed.
As soon as we walked in, it just felt right. The nursery was newly decorated, modern, clean and airy. One thing that really struck me was how calm the nursery was. The principal shows so such much pride and care for her nursery and it really does show in the children and exceptional staff. I have felt so relaxed and reassured leaving my son. The staff are so gentle and kind, always welcoming my son with such warmth. As a Covid baby, he has really come out of his shell and is very social. The nursery provide hot meals, which my son absolutely loves. The home visit was exceptional and gave my son a familiar face on his first day. The nursery is diverse, which was so important to us.

My daughter started in March 2022 when she turned 2 years old. Great and friendly staff, I feel happy with her attending where I know she is safe and doing loads of activities. I am now looking to increase her sessions. I would highly recommend the nursery to prospective parents.

My son was quite shy so we were a bit worried about him starting pre-school. However, all the staff at Burgh Wood Montessori Nursery School were so friendly and supportive from the start, always taking the time to listen to any concerns we had and then ensuring they put any appropriate actions into
place. They would also always ensure we had any feedback we needed. We are very happy with Burgh Wood Montessori and my son loves it there. The new school building is amazing with a huge garden and lots for the children to do. We don't have a bad word to say and would definitely recommend!

I would like to say a big thank you for giving us the opportunity for my daughter, and a couple of years later, our son, to join Burgh Wood Montessori Nursery where they could explore and develop their skills in their own individual way. It took some time to find a nursery school for my daughter, but
after speaking to the owner of the nursery, we knew that our daughter would be happy at Burgh Wood Montessori. The team at the school have done an amazing job settling in our daughter and two years after our son, particularly helping them to develop their English (as Polish is their first language) and also preparing them for primary school. The team made them feel safe and happy like at home and even better as they could do many “messy” things that we parents are not always are happy to do at home! They both loved going there. Thank you to all the Montessori staff!

I have had two children attend Burgh Wood Montessori over the past five years, my youngest graduated in September 2021. Throughout that time we have had nothing but a positive experience. Burgh Wood staff are kind caring and highly qualified. The forest school sessions were a favourite for both of mine.
Burgh Wood staff fully prepared my children to transition into reception with no worries at all and they both still talk about their memories there fondly. It was the best decision we made to send our boys there and would highly recommend Burgh Wood Montessori.

We have had two children attend Burgh Wood Montessori and since the manager has taken over the nursery the setting has been transformed from great to truly exceptional, and the changes which have been implemented have had a positive impact in every area – from improved equipment, creation of a forest
school and increased parent engagement and information with the implementation of technology. From the caring and kind nature of the teaching staff through to the focus on education and not mentioning the focus on keeping the children safe during these challenging times the team really deliver to the highest standard.
As a family, we were sad that our journey at Burgh Wood ended (apparently there is a requirement to start primary school – much to my daughter’s disappointment) but love that we remain part of the wider alumni family! I would highly recommend this setting to anyone looking to give their children the best head start in their education in a warm, friendly, caring and supportive environment!

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.125)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.125) out of 10 for Burgh Wood Montessori Nursery School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

The Average Rating of 5.000 for Burgh Wood Montessori Nursery School is calculated as follows: ( (60 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.125 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Burgh Wood Montessori Nursery School is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 number of registered child places is 8. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.625

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I worked in the bank for 10 years then left the banking world to stay home and raise our family. Once my girls went to school, I found an interest in child development and wanted to delve further. I completed my Diploma in preschool practice and started working as a practitioner in a Montessori preschool, I found the Montessori method fascinating and so rewarding to see the children gain so much independence and important life skills at such a young age, which will stay with them forever.

After a year I took over as Manager and stayed there for 13 years. I have also had some experience working in Children's Centres and in a nursery within a private school. I am now pleased to be back in a Montessori setting.
