Northcote House Nursery is a private daycare nursery.

Northcote House is situated on Salcott Road. At their last inspection in July 2023, the nursery was awarded a Good from Ofsted.

The nursery is open full-time from 7:30 am – 7:00 pm caring for children from 3 months to 5 years.

Children are encouraged to develop and build upon their abilities in all areas of learning and take pride in their achievements.

Children quickly gain independence, self-confidence and an enthusiasm for learning. The innovative and exciting curriculum encourages the children to develop all the characteristics needed for effective learning.

The nursery works in partnership with parents to prepare children for entry into well-regarded schools in the local and surrounding areas.

The nursery has been completely refurbished and the rooms are equipped with state of the art educational resources, providing environments rich in exciting and engaging learning opportunities and experiences which are tailored to meet children's individual interests.

The nursery's chef prepares all the children's meals fresh on the premises each day.

Extra-curricular activities include community visits, gardening and more.

We are not happy with this nursery. There are too many points on which we feel it fell short of what we expected to detail them all, but it includes activities, bathroom hygiene, staff, food, communication, management etc.
We are not comfortable with the volatility we have experienced in 18 months.

The whole staff team at Northcote House Nursery and Bennerley House Pre-Prep are hugely disappointed and upset to read this review. Whilst we believe our time and energy is much better spent focusing on continuing to provide fantastic care and education to our families than in defending persistent public campaigns aimed at undermining this hard work, we feel it is important to correct untruths, particularly those which have arisen from a financial motive.

In the last 18 months, both our Nursery and Pre-Prep, have undergone a complete refurbishment, including being fully re-resourced with bespoke and state of the art equipment. This has totally transformed the learning environments for children across all age groups.

We have introduced a fantastic new curriculum and transition to school programme for our Pre-Prep children and implemented a vast range of extra-curricular activities throughout the nursery. These include but are not limited to: Wake up and shake up, an activity to energise the brain using cross-lateral movements; a cookery station which incorporates many aspects of the curriculum; a range of bespoke activities which promote children’s well-being and confidence, including Emotions Boxes and Chatterboxes; and Garden Champions - our own bespoke extra-curricular gardening activity which is supported by the Royal Horticultural Society’s School Gardening Awards training programme.

We have focused hugely on staff’s training and development, which in combination with the above, means that the range of activities, learning, care and overall standard are excellent.

Working with high quality and ethical suppliers, our nursery chef has implemented a delicious and nutritionally balanced new menu. He uses seasonal and fresh ingredients to prepare meals for the children to enjoy and is a key member of the Nursery’s Cookery Club. He is an advocate for The Soil Association Food for Life Served Here Award and is leading on our Bronze accreditation which we are shortly to receive. This accreditation is an independent endorsement, backed by annual inspections, for food providers. The aim of the scheme is to encourage and reward caterers who: serve fresh food; source environmentally sustainable and ethical food; make healthy eating easy, and champion local food producers.

We, therefore, feel that the ratings of poor and very poor in these areas are grossly unfair and vindictive, and we are saddened that on your 5th attempt to post such a review online, we have not been able to prevent our staff team from reading these comments.

We have found our son to be very happy at Northcote House Nursery & Bennerley House Pre-prep. He was very well looked after in the nursery floor upstairs and is well settled in the toddler room now. The nursery has been collaborative and flexible on our requirements of schedules and accommodating our
son's timings and we are very appreciative of this.

Overall the nursery is good, but in 2018, at some point we lost the track of changing staff. We are very happy with one particular carer's care of our son and we observe she is connected to him even though she is not his key person.

My daughter has completed her first month in the toddler room. All the staff are excellent, so friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic. I am very impressed with the space and activities on offer. My daughter is always very happy at the end of the day after her time at nursery.

My wife and I have been very impressed with the improvements made to Bennerley House. The key nursery staff are very well organised, offer excellent structured learning and I feel that my daughter is really benefitting, particularly as she starts school in September.
I have seen my daughter develop
well and feel confident she will now start school well as a result of the improvements. More so, my other daughter will be starting Bennerley House in a month's time.

Staff turnover remains a concern/worry as stability is appreciated by my child. We are looking forward to engaging with phonics as soon as possible. She enjoys coming to nursery seeing her friends and the staff.
She enjoys the variety of facilities available and experiences available. We hope the food
remains at the current standard our child appears to eat a good variety/quantity of food here.

The year overall has been mixed but the Bennerley room is now much improved and I believe that there is a more positive atmosphere generally.
More recently, the children's learning seems to have also developed.
I would now like to see a period of stability in the room for the children.
