A light and spacious nursery in Finsbury Park

Right in the heart of Finsbury Park with direct access to the Finsbury Park tube station situated 5 minutes away from the nursery. Finsbury Park Day Nursery and Preschool is within the catchment area for schools in the Borough of Islington, Haringey and Hackney.

The opening times are 7:30am - 6:30pm and offer a variety of full and part-time places providing high-quality care and education for children aged 3 months to 5 years.

Finsbury Park Day Nursery and Preschool is a light, spacious, purpose-built day nursery all on one level the rooms all have direct access to outdoor garden areas.

Each child is individually planned for to focus on their education and development by their very own key person. Staff work alongside parents to ensure that every child's individual needs are met at all times. The friendly and enthusiastic staff team have a wealth of knowledge and understanding of childcare, which is continued through regular training to ensure the highest quality practice possible.

Our child has been here since April and the speed of her development has been fantastic. She is always excited to go to nursery in the morning due to the excellent staff and facilities provided. My wife and I never have to worry about leaving her there during the day, safe in the knowledge she is being
extremely well looked after.
The nurseries efforts in providing social events and keeping adults involved is also commendable.

Our daughter has been at Bright Horizons since January and she loves it there. Her development has been a pleasure to watch and the staff there all take excellent care of her - we have no problems with leaving her in their care all day.

My son thoroughly enjoys attending the nursery. The staff are all extremely caring and dedicated and have a great rapport with the children. They work hard to create fun activities and learning opportunities for the children, taking into consideration their particular interests. The rooms are large
with lots of natural light and have benefited from recent redecoration. The large outdoor, all-weather play area is also a real bonus.

All the staff are very supportive and have done a great job in helping my son settle in the nursery and feel welcome every day. The management team is so supportive and you can see that the management team support the staff and team to develop and grow in their care and become amazing practitioners.

We've had children at the nursery for the last 3.5 years. It was excellent when we first started, then dipped to ok and, since the new manager has arrived, it has returned to its former excellent standard. We're very happy with all aspects of the nursery. We have one child there now who is very happy.
All the children are treated as individuals and their care is catered to their needs. They do a variety of activities each day and also have themes that run for a few weeks which the children really get into (our son loved the recent Gingerbread Man one). They also get the parents involved in events and we had a lovely Christmas party last year that all the family got involved in.

Both my children are very happy at the nursery, The staff in the baby room were fantastic in helping my child settle and have been brilliant in dealing with his fussy palate. The staff always give us feedback on our children's activities and the recently introduced parents evening was very useful to
learn how they are progressing with the EYFS. The food is always excellent and both my children eat well at the nursery. I would like to see the children doing more cooking at nursery as they used to do under previous management. Staff retention is still an issue at the nursery hopefully this will improve with the new manager.

My two year old son has been at this nursery since he was 6 months old part time. He loves it and does so many things and has lots of little friends who he talks about. The majority of the staff are lovely and caring as always in this sector high turnover of staff is an issue but there are lots of people
here who've been here long term. More management changing in this case which luckily doesn't affect continuity for my son's nursery experience. A bit pricey but very long hours so food for work.

Our 2.5-year-old has been going to the nursery for 8 months now always enjoys it. They were excellent settling him in, the staff in his first room were brilliant with him. There have been a lot of changes recently and some disruptions with decorating, but they all seem to be for the better. When he
moved up a room it took a while for us to have regular contact with his key worker specifically, so occasionally information wasn't passed on (e.g. we didn't want him napping for 2 hours as he wouldn't sleep at night, but that kept happening). However, I feel that all the staff take the time to get to know the children and are very good with them.

Here is my review, as objectively as I can manage:


Good:
- Nursery is large, with lots of facilities.
- Recently refurbished and starting to look okay.
- Large play area outside, very good when it gets warmer.
- Meals are frequent and healthy.
- The nursery hours are extremely convenient.

The regular nursery staff within my daughter's room are friendly.


Bad:
- Staff turnover seems high up to nursery manager level.
- Staff absences are sudden and can be extended. My daughter's first key worker was suddenly called away to work at another nursery and was away for months. Her most recent key worker told me that she'd be going on extended holiday on the day she was leaving, not mentioning that she'd be away for 3 weeks.
- Buggy parking.
- Often when I enter the nursery, the staff will be talking amongst themselves, parents aren't greeted or directed to appropriate rooms if their child has been moved.
- Expensive for what you get at the younger end of the spectrum.

My 2 and a half-year-old is very happy in this nursery. She has a great bond with her key worker and many of the other staff. The activities are varied with lots of opportunities to run about outside with some exposure to the older children which I view as beneficial. As per some of the other reviews,
things have been a little unsettled at times with quite a few changes to staff/management but hopefully, that has now settled down with the new team in place. A bit pricey but great opening hours.

My child has been at the nursery since a baby. The nursery has great facilities and great staff that do their utmost for all the children. Asquith Finsbury Park provides a fun and educational experience for children in a safe and caring environment. There have been many improvements over the last six months, both environmentally and staff wise. Staff are attentive and clearly have the best interests of the children at heart. The food is
nutritious and the chef is wonderful with the parents and children, offering cups of tea to emotional parents during settling in. The preschool team are amazing.

I always felt very happy to send my son to this nursery. I felt calm and certain he was safe and happy. I liked the staff, the lay-out and how they progressed through the rooms with age. I also appreciated how they crossed over before moving to allow my son to accommodate. They had very useful activities
and learning schemes. They had lovely open-days and special events like Mother's Day tea. There was some quick changes of management, I think 4 changes, in the 2 years. I hope the current manager gets to stay and add stability, especially since she knows the staff and children very well.

Overall good, however, the nursery is the most expensive in the area and in some areas the care could be better e.g. More regular changing of nappies. Staff turnover is also very high. More continuity in carers would be nicer for the children.

My child has been happy coming to pre-school here. They have some very good staff in the rooms. The food is good and they do a great job. Asquith Finsbury Park has had some good managers over the last few years. However, their problem is with retention of this good management. Since summer 2016 we have
been very unhappy with management- new managers have not introduced themselves and are not around much. We would hesitate to recommend this nursery based on this feedback.

Mariam has been working in the early years since 2011, beginning at Finsbury Park in May 2018 as a third in charge and progressing to Deputy Manager.
