Independent Place Nursery is part of an award-winning outstanding nursery group awarded Ofsted Outstanding again in their recent November 2021 inspection. They are a private nursery which is uniquely situated in the heart of a safe gated complex just an 8 minute walk from Dalston Kingsland station.

The nursery has two fantastic secure outdoor spaces to offer, with the addition of a unique high specification sensory room, dedicated to providing a breadth of experiences for all children.

The main nursery garden boasts a garden oasis with a dedicated water play area which is filled with an incredible array of open-ended play resources, to ensure that children can explore through awe and wonder. The vegetable planting bed means that throughout the year children are able to observe and learn about healthy eating and growing their own vegetables and herbs to use within their weekly cooking sessions with the nursery cook.

The nursery offers three age-appropriate rooms which are equipped with natural age-specific equipment to meet all children's developmental needs. With a natural approach using a range of loose parts and upcycled materials and equipment, they incorporate the Curiosity approach throughout the nursery. Children discover and learn through their explorations of the range of open ended play opportunities with the teaching and learning of the fundamental British values through the incorporation of the Early Years Foundation stage.

The long-serving team ensures consistency for children’s development and strong familiar bonds are made through a key worker system, which supports partnerships with all parents and carers. The online EyLog learning journal allows parents and carers to track children's nursery life and development and share key information.

The nursery employs daily specialist teachers as extra curriculum activities to support children in their earliest years.

My son has been attending Independent Place for the past 3 years. He loves the nursery and has many long standing friends there. The staff are all very kind, caring and supportive of the children. I am very happy with the nursery.

My daughter's been attending Independent Place since she was 9 months old. I have been so, so happy with their care. The staff are warm and friendly, they genuinely care about my daughter and I feel they really understand parents and their priorities as well. My daughter has definitely benefited from
socialising with other children in the nursery environment, and loves going to nursery - in fact, her little face lights up every time we go into the Independent Place complex! Communication from the nursery is always good. We really landed on our feet when we sent our daughter here.

Both of my children have attended Independent Place, starting in the baby room and progressing into the bigger rooms. Both have been very happy, secure and well looked after. The staff are kind, caring and very professional, and many of them have worked at the nursery for a number of years. The manager
is exceptional and continues to make improvements and consult with the parents. The activities for older children are fun and well thought out, and the nursery provides an excellent range of outside specialist teachers, which adds variety. Although my children are very different, they have both received personalised care suited to their abilities and interests. My older daughter left nursery well prepared and confident for school, but she still loves to come back and visit staff, who are always welcoming and happy to see her. I have no hesitation recommending the nursery and I'm very grateful to the staff for helping to make their early years so happy and contributing so much to their confidence and development.

My 8 month old baby daughter goes to this nursery and really loves it. The staff are warm and caring, and the nursery has a homely, cosy environment. Their sensory play room is brilliant, and the outdoor play area is great for the older children. It is located in a gated community which is very secure.

I am so pleased we settled on this nursery. Even if I was a stay at home parent I would still want my daughter to go to Independent Place a few days a week. My daughter started there when she was 11 months old and is now almost 14 months. She has developed social skills, communication skills and learned
so much in such a short space of time. The staff there are incredible and her key worker has really made an effort to help us by focusing on areas of development we have requested (like speech and walking). The manager and deputy manager take a vested interest, are constantly improving on things and are very open to suggestions from parents. As a parent I feel like I am really listened to. As a team they often reassess how they can improve things and introduce new learning tools and techniques.

I am 100% confident that my daughter is receiving the attention and care she needs. Everyone is friendly and hospitable and this is reflective of a good and safe working environment. My husband and I sometimes um and ah over moving to a more affordable part of London, but we always come back to the fact that we lucked out with choosing Independent Place and wouldn't want to take our daughter out of it.

This July our daughter moved into the big room and has been learning to use the toilet. So a lot of change at once. the staff/management have been brilliant - very attentive and encouraging. Our daughter has been at the nursery for a year and we have seen a positive change. She is more confident and
talkative!! At every stage we have been well informed and updated by the staff and we have always been encouraged to approach them with concerns and suggestions.

Our little boy started at Independent Place aged just 8 months when I returned to work full time. As a new mother I was anxious about leaving him in the care of others but my fears were quickly put to rest once I got to see up close how my baby was being cared for. Throughout the 11 months he attended
Independent Place he was not only wonderfully nurtured by brilliant staff who made sure all his needs were met but he was also genuinely loved.

The nursery is clean, bright and spacious and that was perfect for our super active little boy as he was able to run around and explore all day long. The sensory room in the Baby Room was also brilliant and had us wishing we would have had something like this when we were kids!

The nutrition at the nursery was fantastic too, with meals cooked daily from organic produce and catering to both meat eaters and vegetarians with pretty eclectic recipes. We chalk down his love of Moroccan chickpea stew and lentil soup to Independent Place!

Our son's development followed suit as he quickly went from crawling to walking within two months and continued to blossom in leaps and bounds. The activities at nursery were quite varied and included painting, exploring textures, Tiny Talk, Theater Bugs and Baby Yoga. We knew that every day he was doing something new/different and we could see it in his developmental progress.

We moved house when he was just 11 months which meant a daily commute of almost two hours from work to nursery and then home but we stuck it out for as long as we could because he was so happy at Independent Place. We simply couldn't bear the thought of taking him away from the people who took care of him so lovingly and reassured us as parents that he was in the best possible environment, Sadly the commute started to take its toll on us and in July, when he turned 18 months, we had to take the incredibly difficult decision to move him to a nursery closer to home. There were tears and sad goodbyes and we promised to stay in touch so they can see how he's growing up and so that he can thank them later for being such an integral part of his crucially important early days. I wholeheartedly recommend this nursery to all prospective parents.

I have been very happy with the standard of care my child receives at Independent Place over the 10 months, the staff are incredibly supportive and caring towards the children and know them all very well. My son is happy attending nursery and sometimes doesn't want to leave at the end of the day. The
activities are varied, including structured activities and child led play. They have French, yoga and sign language among many others, but they are all taught in a fun and interactive way. The nursery is improving too with new furniture, a new computer and some new creative ideas for teaching and learning (the human body project seemed like fun!) He comes back with lots of stories. The Nursery Manager is approachable and friendly and the staff work very hard to create a caring and safe environment for the children. The food is organic and nutritional.

My son has been at the nursery for just over a year now. He loves going and settled in very well, He is very social and has lots of friends there due to the staff encouraging this interaction. They offer and an amazing range of activities on a daily basis including yoga which he loves, he often does
the position at home to show us. I have always been extremely happy with the food offered as all his meals are organic and freshly prepared everyday. The staff are also respectful of our wishes for him not to have refined sugar and monitor this well. Overall its a wonderful nursery which has exceeded our expectations in all areas.

We've been really happy with this nursery. Our son didn't have any problems settling in (aged 8 months) and I feel this is thanks to the staff. There is a warm, friendly atmosphere and all the staff seem to know all the kids by name and take an interest in every one. The daily routines are well structured
and varied, with activities that our son seems to really enjoy. The fact that he is so happy there has made my return to work (10 months ago) stress free!

Very impressed with the range of activities and stimulus available for the children, particularly in the 2-4 year old's room. Including messy play, a computer, learning about the human body and nature as well as more familiar care and training.
Both of my boys (19 months and 4 years) are extremely
happy here and often don't want to leave at the end of a long day. The food is tasty, varied, healthy and organic and they usually eat all of it with second helpings. Recently the little one went on a themed picnic in the park. I can visibly see how happy and stimulated they are as as their worlds are opening up and they are becoming increasingly sociable. The staff are lovely, work tirelessly every day and with enthusiasm. They know the kids well and there is a good atmosphere.

My two sons attend Independent Place and are always very happy there. The nursery is safe with lots of different activities and specialist teachers. All staff are warm and welcoming and somehow seems to have loads of energy still at the end of a day! Very impressive. Food is of a high standard, the
hours are great and the care is excellent. I'm not from the UK originally and I have felt welcomed into a warm and happy community through Independent Place.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.237)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.237) out of 10 for Independent Place Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.823 for Independent Place Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (84 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.823

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.414 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Independent Place Nursery is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 49 number of registered child places is 9.8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.8 = 0.714

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
