My son is 3 and has been at Brixton Community Nursery since he was 20 months. The nursery feels like part of our family - my son has really caring relationships with the staff and has made good friends. The mixed age group over 2s room has given him stability and he has had the same key worker for most
of his time at the nursery. His key worker knows him so well, gets his personality and sense of humour, and celebrates his achievements. All this has supported him through some big changes in his life like becoming a big brother and potty training.
While the nursery doesn’t have much outside space, the staff work hard to ensure the children get the most out of the recreation centre facilities and my son enjoys swimming and visiting the soft play.
It has been lovely to see my son growing so much and forming real friendships at the nursery. I know the team are committed to being a true part of our community.

My son just started last week but I already have a very good opinion and feeling about this nursery.
The communication between management, carer and parents is great!
I love the fact there is a chef in the premises cooking fresh for our children.
After only a week my son seems to have bonded with
teachers and seems really happy to go there!
It's a great feeling and relief for me as I am going back to work this week.

This is a lovely nursery setting, in the Brixton Rec Centre. I came across the nursery whilst we were at the leisure centres soft play, which incidentally the children from the nursery go to as an outing. I like the food menu at the nursery and I am told that my child always finishes the food. They
have been making homemade sugar free ice lollies in yoghurt pots which creates a home away from home feel. My child is still settling in, but he is happy when I collect him and he has learned a lot at the nursery already, which he is expressing at home. Whilst my child was settling in, I spent a lot of time in the nursery and on the whole, the children seem happy and the activities they do are varied, interesting and fun.

Our daughter has recently started attending Brixton Community Nursery and she seems very happy there. The staff are very caring and enthusiastic and provide a nice summary of events each day when we pick her up. She has made a swift transition from home care to nursery thanks to their support.

Our child has been at Brixton Community Nursery around 9 months now and she loves it as all the staff are really supportive and we receive feedback at the end of each day about activities etc.

Though outside space is limited, the nursery can use the adjacent Leisure Centre for soft play, plus there

are occasional trips out to the market and local park which is brilliant for all the children.

Special mention to the chef at Brixton Community Nursery who prepares a variety of dishes and is happy to share recipes with all the parents who can then brush up on their own cooking skills!

We have been extremely happy with the nursery since our daughter started there six months ago. Our daughter (now 18 months) has Down's syndrome and was welcomed with open arms by the nursery. They have done their utmost to care excellently for her and to give her the extra time she often needs. Her
keyworkers do physiotherapy exercises with her and set goals every six weeks to work towards with her, as well as liaising with her various support workers. She has a history of aversive feeding and when she started at the nursery would only eat very particular smooth shop-bought pouches. The chef has seen it as his personal challenge to get her to eat his nursery-cooked food and has worked miracles with our daughter. We were so touched when the nursery celebrated World Down Syndrome Awareness Day in March and sent our daughter home with a beautiful letter of how much they love her. I feel very happy and reassured leaving my daughter in their loving and very capable hands when I deliver her in the mornings.

Our daughter has been at Brixton Nursery since she was ten months old - and she's now nearly four. She's there four days a week and loves it. As parents, we're completely reassured by the caring staff, varied learning programme, excellent nutritional meals and rewarding and relaxing environment. We'd
have no hesitation in recommending the nursery to anyone; it's facilities and staff are first rate.

a child to grow.
And the food the nursery chef is making is delicious!

By far the best Nursery in the area, would recommend to all my friends. Staff are vibrant and energetic and both my children are very happy here. A great variety of activities and outings with great use of the centre facilities and even swimming for the 3year olds! The food is exceptional too and the
chef is a great asset, a fantastic Nursery ran by amazing staff.

I can’t recommend this nursery enough. The staff are the beating heart of this place and my child is very very happy there.
I am amazed by some of the things my child learns at nursery and impressed by the range of hands-on sensory activities.
The food is also worth a mention as it’s so varied and
all cooked on site.
The nursery have lots of events to showcase work and involve parents- it’s so lovely to see all the brilliant work.

I have had two children at the nursery, both have really thrived here. As a smaller nursery, it allows children and parents to develop close relationships with the staff, who are incredibly caring and supportive. Brixton Community has been such an important part of our lives and we are so glad we chose
this nursery.

The staff are so lovely and welcoming. They create a warm environment for our child and have helped us with her transition to nursery.

We feel all the staff exude a confidence and intelligence within their various roles, reassuring us that our child is in safe hands. They’re also full of energy

and enthusiasm, which we feel is so important as prominent figures in our child’s upbringing.

We’re ultimately very greatful for their care and professionalism, we feel lucky to have found such an excellent nursery.

We chose Brixton because we had used the creche while on maternity leave and I was impressed with the staff. The staff are very warm, friendly and engaged with the children. The range of activities is impressive and they take the children out on regular trips which help make up for the small garden
area, to some extent. The chef gets very involved with the children which is lovely also. It's a small nursery so you get to know most/all of the other children in the room. This makes it feel close-knit and not too overwhelming for the kids. Staff turnover seems very low by industry standards which is another big positive.

My only minor niggle is communication in the over 2's room is not as good as in the under 2's. You don't get daily sheets and all the parents tend to arrive at once, plus there are more children per staff member so you can end up waiting a long time or having to leave with barely any feedback at all. Apart from that, extremely happy and glad we chose this nursery.

My 3-year-old has been attending Brixton LEYF since he was 14 months old and it has loved it.
The staff are absolutely amazing and that’s what really makes it special. My son learns, plays and gets to go on outings to the local park, library, soft play and market.
We feel very lucky that we’ve had
such a great experience.
And the chef is brilliant...beats my cooking by some distance.

Both my daughters have attended Brixton Community Nursery so we've been there 2.5 years now. The team are great, the food is exceptionally good (the head chef for LEYF is based here) and the location is super convenient.

There isn't much outside space but being in the Rec the kids can use Play Zone

and studio spaces. I've recommended the nursery to several friends and they are all very happy here too.

A great nursery, where my daughter is very happy and I feel she gets good quality care all day. The staff really seem to care about her. The food is interesting and they do lots of stimulating activities. Unfortunately, they don't have much outdoor space.

Our son really enjoys going to nursery and has a great time playing with the other children (and the staff!). The chef is excellent and my son is now more interested in food. Children aged 3+ get taken to the swimming pool on a Friday which is brilliant. Great location with friendly and helpful staff.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.184)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.184) out of 10 for Brixton Garden Nursery & Pre-school (formerly Little Angel Nursery School) is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.813 for Brixton Garden Nursery & Pre-school (formerly Little Angel Nursery School) is calculated as follows: ( (82 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.813

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.371 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Brixton Garden Nursery & Pre-school (formerly Little Angel Nursery School) is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 number of registered child places is 14. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 14 = 0.571

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
