Matilda Nursery has been an absolute gem for our 1-year-old! We moved him from another local nursery. It was clear right away that he was much happier - he was beaming when I picked him up after his first full day and thrilled to exchange friendly goodbyes with his new carers. As parents, we were relieved
to find such a caring and stimulating environment for him.
Matilda's feels like a small community engaging in a host of interesting activities (like Spanish, yoga, baking, seasonal parties). The light-filled space is homely and inviting. The safe quiet outdoor space adjoins a small green public garden/playground - great for more play and chats after nursery.
Nursery staff are warm, professional, genuinely engaged with the children and going beyond. There is plenty of opportunity for parents to get involved.
As a registered charity, Matilda's keeps fees affordable - a definite bonus!
The prior reviews from 2015-16 chime with our experience - it's heartening to see the continuity.

We couldn't be happier with Matilda Community Nursery. The staff are absolutely wonderful-so kind, thoughtful, and always willing to listen. They truly make you feel heard and valued, which is so important as a parent.
My two little ones love going in every day, and it's easy to see why. The variety
of activities they offer is fantastic-everything from yoga and football to Spanish lessons! They also go above and beyond with trips, themed days, and parties, making every week exciting and different.
It's such a warm, nurturing environment, and we're so grateful to have found it. Highly recommend to any parent looking for a fun, caring, and engaging nursery!

Matilda day nursery is a fantastic nursery which is very supportive of the children and parents.

My son loves going to nursery and has learnt so much in terms of communicating, toilet training, playing, singing and dancing.

Parents are always kept informed of what is happening and what has been

planned and are encouraged to have a say in what is going on.

The staff are very friendly and the fees are also very reasonable.

Our two year old daughter likes the nursery. It's in a very quiet and secure spot in a court yard of a block of flats. It has it's own garden and a playground shared with the public. The staff are friendly and professional. It's small and intimate with only 14-15 children at any time. Our daughter likes
the yoga lessons and likes seeing her friends from the neighbourhood there.

Matilda is a lovely small community nursery.
We were surprised at how quickly our daughter has settled into the nursery. The staff appear to be very attentive to the children's needs (for example our daughter had 2-3 wee accidents a day in her old nursery but was dry (like at home) as soon as she started
with Matilda).
I really like how the parents are invited to get involved and make suggestions. The staff have always been very responsive to any queries that I have raised.
There is a lovely outdoor space and they take the children on trips out. They also have classes for the children such as music and Yoga.
I'm really pleased that we made the move to Matilda nursery and would definitely recommend parents consider it.

This is a true gem of a nursery.
When we found Matilda nursery our family was bruised due to a previous very negative childcare experience. As a result of this experience, my little boy, 3yrs old, was very anxious and his confidence had hit rock bottom (as had mine!). At his previous nursery my happy,
confident little boy had turned into an anxious, teary and frightened little soul, it was heartbreaking to watch. He developed a stutter, would not settle to sleep and had difficulties staying dry in the day.

On our first day at Matilda my son and I were both very anxious and teary but the staff was fantastic in dealing with us. The manager confidently but gently took the lead of the settling in process, giving plenty of cuddles and gentle reassurance to both son and mum! I was peaking through the window (too anxious to leave the building) and saw my scared little boy being cuddled and reassured by each and everyone of the staff.

The next day, although still anxious he was much calmer, surprisingly so actually - it was me that was more anxious this time. Again, the Manager stepped in and in her gentle but assertive manner asked me to leave my son there for a couple of hours. She called me 5 min later (I was pretty much hiding in the bushes outside) so that I could hear him playing and laughing with his new found friends, which was a very thoughtful thing to do. Since that day, we have never looked back.
My son now happily runs in through the door in the morning, with a cheery "good morning" and all the staff greet him and the other children so warmly. I must also mention that he was dry within two days (!) and his stutter is gone now too. He has got his confidence back and is once again the happy, loving inquisitive child we always see at home.

The setting itself is lovely, the building is newly decorated and a separate room for sleeping.
It is a calm, happy nursery, filled with engaging and age appropriate toys. They have a lovely garden too, a rarity in the city of London! It is a culturally diverse nursery, with both staff and children from a variety of backgrounds. This was a very important factor for our family when deciding on a nursery setting and Matilda has really provided us with the multicultural, inclusive and welcoming environment that we so desperately needed.

Let me finish this long review with a special mention of the staff as they really deserve all the praise that they can get. As all parents know, dedicated staff makes all the difference when it comes to the well being of our children.
Well, it doesn't get any better than the girls at Matilda, they are excellent. I cannot find enough words to explain the difference these girls have made to our lives. To have our happy, bouncy little boy back means everything to us as parents and we have the girls at Matilda to thank for that. If you are lucky enough to get a space at this lovely place, grab it. You and your little ones will be so grateful that you did.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.625) out of 10 for Matilda Community Day Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.833 for Matilda Community Day Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (20 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.833

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.792 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Matilda Community Day Nursery is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 15 number of registered child places is 3. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 3 = 0.667

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
