Cumnor House School is a family of four independent schools for boys and girls aged 2 to 13 years. The school includes two co-educational nurseries located in South Croydon and Purley, providing an engaging, interactive and collaborative environment that marks the beginning of your child’s educational journey.

This seamless journey continues through to Reception, building a strong foundation for continued growth and preparing them for their next steps. The Cumnor House Nursery in South Croydon is located on Pampisford Road, overlooking 10 acres of Cumnor Sports Ground – a quiet gem in a busy city.

Open year-round for 51 weeks from 8am-6pm, the South Croydon site offers consistent care for children aged 2 to 4 years in a home-from-home environment. Toddler Group sessions are also held every Friday morning from 9-10am, for children aged 18 months to 4 years.

This nurturing setting supports young learners by introducing learning opportunities and challenges through play, ensuring that all children thrive. There is equal focus on high academic standards in a playful environment, setting children up for academic success and focusing on future-oriented learning to equip even the youngest learners with essential skills.

Due to its location and access to Cumnor House Boys' School playing fields, outdoor activities play a key role, from outdoor learning and games to enjoying meals and snacks. Indoors, the facilities include a reading area, tablets, games and resources which aid mathematical thinking and reasoning skills, and a wide variety of creative resources.

Book and attend a Toddler Group session, held every Friday morning from 9-10am, for children aged 18 months to 4 years. These sessions allow families to experience the nursery in action, where children can engage in a morning of activities while parents gain insights into the nursery and settling-in process.

Our experience with Cumnor House School has been wonderful. Both our children transitioned through the nursery at South Croydon and we have been very impressed with the care and support they received from the all the teachers. They have not only nurtured my son but have taught him life long skills.

We sent both our children to Cumnor House South Croydon and our youngest has been attending pre-school since September. We could not rate the nursery highly enough. The staff are dedicated, patient and I have seen positive changes in my son since the beginning of the year. I genuinely feel that the
staff care about the well-being of my child and the turnover has been very low which is always very encouraging.

Our son has recently started at this nursery, and they have been wonderful with communication and helping settle him in. Although it has only been a short period so far, our son is eating the most amazing nutritious meals and enjoying them! He is having a great time with other children, interacting
and the facilities have been great. I cannot fault the staff, the office staff, the facilities or the communication.

After viewing a number of nursery settings, we just knew Cumnor House Nursery, South Croydon was the right setting for our son. Staff were friendly and experienced and the setting provided lots of opportunities for learning through play. Our son, who was very attached, settled in quickly and he was
even excited to go to nursery! This continued throughout preschool and we could really see the progress our son made by having a qualified teacher at this stage. He loved the structure and range of learning opportunities from forest school to music and PE. I couldn't rate the setting highly enough!

My son joined the pre-school in September. The staff are amazing and the education is fantastic. The progress I have seen in one term is outstanding. I only wish we had moved him sooner. I have seen an improvement in his speech and language and communication since joining. The specialist lessons - music,
PE and Spanish are outstanding. This is shown in their productions. I watched my son in the Nativity on Monday and the singing and dancing was fantastic. The children have so much confidence and this comes from the amazing and qualified team they have at Cumnor House. Again wish I had made the move at 2!

My youngest attends nursery here during the holidays and loves it. The staff are experienced and take care to remember him and all his nuances (!) especially with allergies. He enjoys the routines and the activities. The setting is lovely as they are in the perimeter of school playing fields and so
it’s very green. There is a private lane which makes it feel safe.

The care, consideration and attention my son receives in Cumnor House School Nursery is exemplary.
The nursery has a lovely, nurturing and vibrant atmosphere in a safe environment which my son loves. They have plenty of learning opportunities for him to explore and play via the vast range of toys and
up to the minute equipments.
When I come there is always a warm feeling, all the staff are friendly. Staff pay attention to his strengths and weaknesses and verbalise them to us and ideas for developing them are implemented, I am always well informed and I work together with the nursery staff to give my son the best possible experience.
All staff demonstrates an excellent attitude and have a brilliant connection with the children.
I always feel comfortable and safe leaving my son.

Our son has been at Cumnor House School Nursery, South Croydon since 2 years of age and will start reception in September. The nursery is excellent with great staff, a clear approach to balance more formal learning with learning through play, and lots of outside space.
The nursery has strong links
to the boys and girls schools and is great value.
We would not hesitate to recommend it.

We cannot fault anything about this nursery.
The members of staff are wonderful and have really gotten to know our little boy. They communicate with us every evening at pick up and tell us everything about his day, what they've done, what he has eaten, how much he has slept, his mood and his progress.
We cannot believe how much he has come on since joining this nursery in September after stalling in his development at another place.
The food offered is varied and my little boys eating has really improved too. The facilities are great and the children spend lots of time outside and even have PE classes.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this nursery to anyone!

The teachers here are very focused on giving the kids the best possible headstart to their schooling by giving them a huge variety of activities from weekly music lessons, weekly PE and yoga to storytime from the headmaster.


The nursery readily makes the term's topics available for all the parents

and the children are immersed in the topics through activities that seem like play but is teaching them all the skills they will need to enter school.


They take great care of all the children both academically and personally. Each one treated as an individual and a personal plan for each of them is created to concentrate on the areas they need more help in.


I cannot fault this nursery in the slightest, it has been wonderful to see my children grow so much under the care of the teachers here and to see their relationship between them and the teachers is truly wonderful.

Nursery staff work well at encouraging learning through play, interactive sessions. My son really enjoys Spanish and enjoys playing with new friends.

Both my sons are attending this nursery at the moment. They are not particularly outgoing characters but they were able to settle in very quickly and have been very happy ever since, which shows the competence and effort of nursery staff. Particularly my son’s key worker, who has been particularly
instrumental in helping my son to become more confident and social. Even though I slightly disagree with some of the policies and management, these do not overshadow even a bit of the overall outstanding performance of the nursery.

My children enjoy the nursery a lot. The teachers are really helpful and children love them.
Here I just want to add more to improve the nursery service:
1. Willows class doesn’t have opportunities to go to the garden /outside because their garden is opposite of a road. I don’t think they even have
enough time to play at the outside platform at the back of the classroom. I do think children need to go out every day. This can limit the spread of flu cough or cold. I think bungalow has more opportunities to go to the garden because their garden is at the back.
2. I recommend to open the windows in Willows room more often even in winter. The air is not fresh after a day in winter.
