Cumnor House School is a family of four independent schools for boys and girls aged 2 to 13 years. The school includes two co-educational nurseries located in South Croydon and Purley, providing an engaging, interactive and collaborative environment that marks the beginning of your child’s educational journey.

This seamless journey continues through to Reception, building a strong foundation for continued growth and preparing them for their next steps. The Cumnor House Nursery in South Croydon is located on Pampisford Road, overlooking 10 acres of Cumnor Sports Ground – a quiet gem in a busy city.

Open year-round for 51 weeks from 8am-6pm, the South Croydon site offers consistent care for children aged 2 to 4 years in a home-from-home environment. Toddler Group sessions are also held every Friday morning from 9-10am, for children aged 18 months to 4 years.

This nurturing setting supports young learners by introducing learning opportunities and challenges through play, ensuring that all children thrive. There is equal focus on high academic standards in a playful environment, setting children up for academic success and focusing on future-oriented learning to equip even the youngest learners with essential skills.

Due to its location and access to Cumnor House Boys' School playing fields, outdoor activities play a key role, from outdoor learning and games to enjoying meals and snacks. Indoors, the facilities include a reading area, tablets, games and resources which aid mathematical thinking and reasoning skills, and a wide variety of creative resources.

Book and attend a Toddler Group session, held every Friday morning from 9-10am, for children aged 18 months to 4 years. These sessions allow families to experience the nursery in action, where children can engage in a morning of activities while parents gain insights into the nursery and settling-in process.

My son started at another site when he was 2. As the other site didn't offer 51 weeks we moved him to South Croydon after 2 terms. The South Croydon site has been refurbished with new facilities and lots of new kit. Our son is happy and enjoys his time. We can see great social and interactive skills
developing. His vocabulary is also improving. There was a lot of staff turnover initially with some communication difficulties but it seems to have settled now. We feel the other site offered a personalised touch with our interactions with the key worker that still seem to be lacking at South Croydon. It is surprising to see the difference in the quality of staff skills under the same banner. We'd have preferred the nursery to open 7.30 to 6.30 like most do as it is a great help for working parents. Irrespective of affordability, the nursery only offers 15 hours funding and only if your child attends full 5 days - not 30 hours per entitlement. Overall, the quality of learning and education / discipline is excellent.

My son is happy at nursery and we are happy with the variety of skills he is learning including teaching him to recognise letters, write and teaching him his numbers.
He is developing relationships with his peers which is important and most importantly he is having fun. He enjoys singing and doing
PE too and feeling like he is at “school”.

I am so glad that this nursery was recommended to me. My daughter is thriving and happy. Her key worker is wonderful. Every day she comes home having learned something new.
