Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool (Formerly Shortlands Little Stars)

Shortlands day nursery is a beautiful converted church which boasts some of the original features, high ceilings and generous space in the rooms. The nursery has four rooms which include a baby, toddler, nursery class and Preschool room and they are lucky to have separate gardens for the under twos and over twos. They are a two minute walk from Shortlands station which has excellent links into London and a short drive into the centre of Bromley.

The nursery offers a high standard of childcare and education and provides a happy and secure atmosphere for children aged three months to five years.

An enthusiastic team of professional staff are dedicated to providing the children with the very best opportunities and are committed to the development of each child.

The children also benefit from bespoke Growing Programmes including: Growing Readers, Writers and Mathematicians. Healthy meals and snacks are prepared on-site by the talented chef.

We have two children at the nursery (Preschool & toddler) who both started last year after we moved to the area. We are so happy with our decision - our children love going in every day and always have a smile on their face at pickup. The communication is excellent and we love seeing all the pictures
and the notes. The staff are kind and fun and really pay attention to the children's needs whilst providing creative activities. You can tell they have both formed really strong bonds with many of the teachers.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this nursery to any parent!

My son started when he was two as he attended another nursery however due to moving home needed a nursery closer to my other child's school. The staff are amazing and were very supportive of his transition and settling in days. They also helped with potty training.
They do many activities with the
children and keep you updated throughout the day. If I ever need an extra sessions they are always accommodating.
Best decision I made moving my son to bright horizons.

We love this nursery for our little girl. She started as a 6-month-old baby and the adapting period was prepared to meet her needs and prepare for regular sessions. All staff members are lovely and genuinely love children. Every day is filled with a lot of stimulating their curiosity activities which
are then beautifully presented to parents. Baby feels very comfortable and approaches the door with a smile on her face. Would highly recommend this nursery!

I have been helping my sister with collection of my nephew at nursery for the last month. I am so impressed with the security they had in place for when I collected. My daughter joined Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery mid-February this year and although she did struggle to separate from me, the nursery staff made her feel comfortable and safe. She first started in nursery class and I want to thank everyone involved there for helping me with potty training
and making my life much easier. My daughter was all ready for the preschool class and had plenty of time to concentrate in her learning and development with the preschool team afterwards.
I am honestly so grateful for all the support I received, as the parent, during a very difficult time I have been going through whilst my daughter was attending the nursery and I'm very happy for my daughter to have had a positive and supportive relationship with the nursery and preschool staff.

Bright Horizons Shortlands has changed everything for us as a family. My little boy had not settled at his previous nursery, and after 6 months, still continued to cry when going in every morning.
I approached Bright Horizons as I needed a short turnaround for the start date.
He has loved every
minute and has not cried once since starting. He is happy and excited to go to nursery, and this brings me so much joy.
He also had/has ongoing issues with his speech but has come so far since joining.
Thank you all but a big thank you to his key person.

Our daughter started at 13 months old in the baby room during COVID when we couldn't view inside the nursery and couldn't undertake settling sessions with her. As first-time parents, this was obviously very difficult but the team at Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool were so accommodating
and reassuring that our daughter quickly settled and was always happy to go in. She has now just left to go to school.
Throughout her time in the different rooms, the staff have been kind, warm and approachable. There is low staff turnover which contributes to the lovely, family feel and to our daughter developing in confidence throughout her time there. The nursery facilities have been updated recently and the activities planned by the team are always enjoyed and appropriate.
Our second child now also attends Shortlands and we are equally happy with her progress.
I'd highly recommend this nursery to other families in the area.

We've had a wonderful experience with Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool! There is a very personal feel to the nursery and all the staff know the children well (and parents) and are happy to discuss how your little one is doing. We were so pleased with the settling process, management
and the key workers took a really, baby-led, flexible approach and were happy to accommodate what was required for our little one to feel settled. The facilities are great and there seem to be lots of fun activities going on (ball pit, messy play, painting etc.) which we get regular pictures of and updates. Overall, we couldn't recommend this nursery more, our little one loves going there and reaches out grinning to all of the staff as soon as we arrive which is so nice and reassuring! Bright Horizons Shortlands is a great, well-run nursery, made even nicer by a welcoming, really warm team.

We have loved our Bright Horizons Shortlands experience. Both of our children have loved coming here and they have developed key social skills. The activities and experiences set up daily are imaginable and impressive and the kids love to tell us about their day. Communication with the new app is great
and a great addition during our time here. The activities where they leave the nursery are also a great experience for the kids. It's very difficult being working parents (full time- and we're highly appreciative of the care shown at Bright Horizons Shortlands.

My child really enjoys going to nursery and clearly loves the staff at Bright Horizons. We feel she is very safe, secure and well looked after during the day, which is all we can ask for as first-time parents.
Her sleeping has taken longer than expected to adjust as perhaps as a nursery it's not best
suited to young babies who are on two naps due to the sleeping arrangements (there is not a separate room with cots).

My daughter attends Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool and really enjoys it.
As soon as I viewed this nursery I knew it was perfect for my daughter. The staff are all so caring and friendly. The activities they do with her are fun and educational and she gets excited about going.
They have encouraged her to try lots of new healthy foods and there is great communication. Since moving into preschool, her confidence has grown and she has made so many friends.

I needed emergency care for my three children. The youngest of which had not yet been in a nursery setting as was only 3 months at the time.
The staff helped me with making me feel at ease and reassuring me, they were excellent with the children.
One member of staff, in particular, especially helped
by looking after my 3-month-old and giving me any updates I needed.
When we looked around the setting we were so happy with the clean facilities and beautiful gardens they had.
I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone. The staff and management were so helpful and friendly.

I am very pleased with the nursery. Staff are lovely and my son always had a good time at his nursery. He remembers the names of all the teachers and not once complained about anything. From my point of view, the nursery has always been accommodating, including medication when necessary, information

Bright Horizons Shortlands has been great beyond words. My daughter is now trying and testing foods she would have once refused. She has really thrived in the setting. The staff are absolutely incredible and I would recommend Shortlands to everyone. Thank you to my daughter's caregivers especially,

Our experience at Bright Horizons Shortlands Day Nursery and Preschool was really positive. Our son started at the nursery from around 2, and he has been making lots of progress ever since. There are many different kinds of activities throughout the day and the week, and the children have a big garden
to go out and play. It was slightly messy at times (rain, wet etc.), but our son loved it. He also made lots of friends and always came home happy after school.
As parents, we love how the nursery sends us many photos and information to keep us up to date via the app (which works quite well). Moreover, the school is quite flexible at dealing with urgent childcare requests from us (extra sessions), and this helped us immensely.
Overall, we are quite happy with the nursery.

Helen

Job Title: Nursery Manager

Helen has been working with Bright Horizons for over 15 years, starting as a Nursery Nurse in Shortlands and progressing to Deputy Manager. In 2016, she moved to Caterham to gain experience in a larger nursery before returning to Shortlands as Nursery Manager in January 2018.


Holding a degree in Early Childhood Studies, she has gained valuable insight into child development. Her experience includes working in a nursery in Australia and she continues to refresh her knowledge and expertise in early years education.


Her passion has always been to guide each child in reaching their full potential. She feels privileged to make a meaningful impact on children's lives during this crucial stage of development.


Jodi

Jodi

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Jodi has been working in the childcare field for over 18 years, with eleven of those years at Bright Horizons Shortlands. She began as an apprentice and worked her way up to Room Leader, Third in Charge and was promoted to Deputy Manager in 2018.


She feels incredibly fortunate in her role, as it allows her to support the development of children, the team, and the learning environments. She especially enjoys watching children grow and progress through each room until they graduate to their reception classes at school.

At the very heart of Shortlands Day Nursery is our two wonderful chefs, Jennes and Sam.


They have over 50 years kitchen experience combined. Together Jennes and Sam have continuously achieved 5 stars EHO inspections and have provided the children with delicious, nutritious meals. They have also supported the children with growing our own produce to cook and have facilitated creative cook sessions.


Jennes favourite meal to cook is different pasta dishes and at home is fried chicken and rice. Sam's favourite meal to cook are a roast dinner and chicken curry.
