The Cumnor House School Nursery in Purley is situated within the tree-lined, gated community of the Webb Estate, a residential conservation site. As part of Cumnor House School, which offers a rich and diverse curriculum for boys and girls aged 2 to 13 years, this co-educational nursery is one of two Cumnor House nurseries, providing an engaging, interactive, and collaborative environment – where your child’s educational journey begins.

Open during term time to align with school hours, the nursery provides a safe space for children aged 2-4 years to learn about themselves and the world around them. Children are encouraged to engage with a range of learning opportunities and challenges through play, ensuring that all children thrive. Balancing high academic standards within a playful environment, the nursery prepares children for academic success while focusing on future-oriented learning, equipping even the youngest learners with essential skills.

The nursery is situated in a wonderful open location that enables children to benefit from their own dedicated outdoor play area, specific eating area and nature garden. Inside the classroom, children have access to a reading area, educational devices, games and resources that aid mathematical thinking and reasoning skills, and a wide variety of creative resources.        

Book and attend a Toddler Group session, held every Monday morning from 9-10am, tailored for children aged 18 months to 4 years. These sessions allow parents and children to experience the nursery in action and meet the staff. Children can engage in a morning filled with activities while parents gain valuable insights into the nursery and settling-in process.

First year at the school. My son is always coming back excited about what he learnt at nursery. The singing. The PE games. The classes. The teachers. The new “best” friends each day.
The communication from the school is excellent. The parent network groups are active and comforting. The extra family
activities organised by the school are appropriate for these Covid-19 circumstances.
As a first time parent, I feel Cumnor House has helped me settle in well with the starting on the journey of educating my son.

My daughter currently attends the nursery and I am very happy with the standard of care that is being provided.
There are highly experienced and qualified nursery practitioners who are clearly dedicated to ensuring that each child not only grows and develops their skills all around, but they enjoy
doing so. I have seen this approach work very well with my son who is now 7. This nursery gave him the firm foundation needed to then successfully and confidentially transition up into reception. For me, the most important thing is having the peace of mind knowing that when I drop my daughter off, I am confident that she will be safe, loved and happy with her friends and teachers.

Extremely good care and learning. The staff is really nice and experienced. For a 2-year-old it is far the best nursery you can find in the area.
The ratio teacher/child is amazing. I highly recommend it. The only con is the price. So if you can afford it, this is it.

Job Title: Head of Early Years

Joined: 2020

Mrs Upfold joined Cumnor House in January 2020, leading her team to create an engaging personalised learning space for all of our pupils. Spearheading the Early Years Quality Mark which Cumnor House was awarded in June 2021. Bringing teachers into our Pre-School rooms from September 2021 ensures that the quality of learning and the building blocks of phonics, reading and writing will be embedded from the age of 3, giving our pupils excellent preparation for their transition through to our Reception classes.
