An established childcare setting, with over 30 years experience. The Village Preschool E17 is a parent run, 'not for profit' childcare setting, registered with the Charity Commission, fully regulated by Ofsted, and a member of the Preschool Learning Alliance

They are proud of their commitment to providing affordable childcare and to supporting families from diverse backgrounds.

Founded in 1990 as a playgroup by local mums, The Village Preschool quickly developed into a popular early years childcare setting in E17. The growth demanded a larger space and in 2017 they moved to the current location at Walthamstow Cricket, Tennis and Squash Club.

You won’t find a location like this anywhere else. The team are committed to ensuring children have as much outdoor time as possible, even when the weather is against them. The children play and learn in a large hall with doors opening directly on to an enclosed play area to allow for free flowing indoor/outdoor play. When the kids need even more space to run around, the staff open the gates on to the cricket field.

The nursery has a dedicated Forest School area and two fully qualified Forest School Practitioners within the team. Specific Forest School sessions take place 3 times a week, although the kids will find they spend more time there during the spring and summer terms.

The Village Preschool is a play based setting but a child’s learning outcomes and development are central to everything they do. They want you to be confident that your child is being prepared for school whilst gaining social skills and having the most fun possible.

The team is made up of staff that have been working together for 8 years so you know that your children are going to be looked after by the same people day in and day out, giving you the peace of mind that they will feel settled and at home at the nursery.

The Village Preschool is a very special place. From the second my son walked through the door, he was treated with dignity and respect. The classroom is set up differently each morning and is always calm and quiet, with children able to choose between different activities. The teachers really listen
to what the children are saying and respond to them as individuals. In the short time my son has been there, his confidence and joy have visibly increased. The forest school is an extraordinary offering - at the end of a forest school day he comes home, happy, excited, more observant and takes such joy in small things. It's wonderful to see. The teachers are fantastic and I feel really grateful to have got a place there and sorry that my son didn't start earlier. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this joyful preschool.

I highly recommend this nursery for children also with special needs, My daughter, who has been diagnosed with autism, has thrived in this supportive environment. The staff is not only professional but also exceptionally friendly, demonstrating a deep understanding of her unique learning requirements.
She has made significant progress and learned a great deal during her time here. This institution truly prioritises the individual needs of its students, making it an excellent choice for any parent seeking quality early education.

Fabulous setting with amazing staff who take the time to have a friendly chat each time they see you. My son always leaves feeling happy and that's all I can ask of them considering how much anxiety I had about sending him. He particularly enjoys the Forest School setting and always manages to get mud
from head to toe, literally lol.

All the teachers are so wonderful, they always make sure the child is comfortable and they always go above and beyond. I would recommend this nursery to anyone. The teaching strategies they use too, help the child learn and allow the child to expand their knowledge on different topics. Overall I want
my son to even go to preschool here after his nursery time is over. That's how amazing this nursery is thanks to all the teachers that work there.

We couldn't be happier with our nursery experience. Our daughter has made some lovely friends at the school and has teachers that care about her and her development. We have regular updates on her activities, she has lots of time outside (which was really why we joined here) and well-thought-out activities
across the week. She learns about all religions and events which is important to us. The admin support has excellent communication, we can ask questions and always received helpful and speedy responses. Our child has thrived here and I'd highly recommend it to anyone else.

I am absolutely thrilled with our experience at this school! The teachers are truly lovely and have made a significant impact on my children's education and well-being. My eldest daughter just finished her time here this summer, and I can see how well she's thriving in reception, thanks to the solid
foundation laid by the village preschool teachers. The transition has been seamless, and her confidence has soared. Had my youngest enrolled just before the summer term and she is still there, and she is having the time of her life! The supportive and caring nature of the staff is evident in everything they do. They genuinely care about each child's development, ensuring that everyone feels valued and supported. I couldn't be happier with the nurturing environment that this school provides. It's a wonderful place for children to learn and grow, and I am grateful for the positive experiences my daughters have had here!

Our daughter has been attending The Village Preschool E17 since April 2024. After a short period of settling in and getting upset when parents leave, she has become a confident little girl, who is expressing herself clearly to others and engages in all the activities the nursery offers (which are plenty).
The staff are incredibly caring and attentive to child's needs and all the questions being asked, providing warmth and support to a child being out of her own environment. When she was smaller and attended outdoor facilities ("Forest school") she enjoyed every moment of being outside and close to nature, exploring every little thing. Because the number of children is quite limited, all the kids get proper attention from the staff, which is great! I would highly recommend The Village Preschool E17 to other parents!

My daughter attended from November 2023, she's settled in nicely and leaves a confident independent little lady moving on to her next pre-school. A special comment for her lovely key worker. She was also my son's key worker when he was there back in 2021 and she's amazing. It was nice to have a key

My daughter has flourished immensely during her time at Village Pre-School. My son, who attended this setting some years back, had a fantastic experience there too. The staff are fully committed to the well-being of the children; the outdoor space is unparalleled and activities like the forest school
walk (which my daughter loves) make the experience so worthwhile. I'd highly recommend this nursery! It's unfortunate that my child won't have the opportunity to attend this setting anymore.

Happy to have my Daughter at The village preschool.
I can always go there with peace of mind knowing that my little one will be in very good hands. We have only been going for a couple of months, but my daughter is happy and that makes me see the good work that all the teachers do. All the areas always

This nursery is amazing. Before my son came to this nursery he was in a private one and he hated it and cried but now he can’t wait to go to the park as he calls it as we can’t say nursery. We're thrilled to have found the village preschool for our son. The entire staff, from caregivers to office personnel, is incredibly welcoming and caring. Although our little one took a bit longer to settle in, everyone was patient and understanding, giving us the time we needed. Spending a few days
in the class only reinforced our trust. Each staff member genuinely cares about the children, creating confidence that our son is in safe hands. We particularly love that they offer forest school – it's one of the reasons we were drawn to the nursery. The expansive outdoor space, coupled with the forest school area, allows the kids to roam, play, and discover. The only downside for us is the 3 pm pickup, but I believe that there are plans to introduce aftercare.

Julia Savage-Wilson

Job Title: Head of Preschool

Joined: 2022

Julia studied Sociology and Education at Northeastern University, USA and received a BSc and Masters in the Art of Teaching. She has been a classroom teacher for over 12 years and held Middle and Senior leadership positions in her Early Years, State Primary, Private and International Schools.

Julia is originally from Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A but married a Brit and found her way to E17. She has three children all of which in schools and early years settings in Walthamstow.

Julia says "I am having an amazing time at The Village Preschool and I am looking forward to my continued journey here with the team, children and wonderful families that join us. Beth Aggus

Job Title: Deputy Head of Preschool & Forest School Practitioner

Joined: 2011

Beth trained as a Level 3 Practitioner after her children were in high school, formerly working in the Insurance Sector in the city.

She was responsible for bringing Forest School to the setting and qualified in 2017 as a Forest School Practitioner - she brings so much passion to engaging children in the outdoors, whatever the weather and was recently promoted to Deputy Head after 8 years of working at the preschool. She plays a big role in the pastoral care of the staff and the families who attend the setting and
was born and raised in Waltham Forest and is a mum to three adult men.

Ailsa joined The Village Preschool E17 in 2022. Ailsa is a qualified teacher and has been working in Waltham Forest Schools for the past three years. Prior to this, she spent many years in the Hospital and Home Teaching Service where she worked with the most vulnerable children across the borough who were unable to attend school due to medical conditions.

Ailsa is originally from Glasgow and moved to Walthamstow in 1999, she is married and has two daughters.

Hello! I'm Emma, a passionate and dedicated Early Years Teacher with a lifelong dream of shaping young minds. I proudly hold a Bachelor of Education Degree (Primary), specialising in Literacy, which I earned in Canberra, Australia.

During my degree, I immersed myself in various educational environments, including working in a nursery and diverse settings focused on children under the age of five. These experiences provided me with invaluable insights into child development and the important stages of early childhood. I was honoured to be promoted to the role of Room Lead for Toddlers during this time, which allowed me to lead and support their growth.

Seeking further experience, I expanded my teaching career in a local Catholic school, where I taught Year One and Reception classes. Additionally, I had the privilege of overseeing extension and enrichment programs for gifted and talented children. This opportunity deepened my commitment to providing personalised and enriching educational experiences.

London became my home in 2014, and since then, I have continued to enhance my expertise in both state and independent schools. In North London, I embraced the role of Lower School Coordinator, where I oversaw teaching and learning from Reception up to Year 2. Recently, I had the privilege of serving as the Acting Head of Nursery at a leading independent Montessori nursery in West London.

I believe in creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels valued, respected, and inspired to explore their potential. Through a play-based approach and personalised learning, I strive to ignite a lifelong love for learning in each child. I am dedicated to fostering their intellectual, social, and emotional growth, preparing them for a bright future.
