Our daughter went to Lower Earley nursery from the age of 10 months onwards. She always loved going and looked forward to getting there every day. Her Key Worker when she was in Little Bears was absolutely brilliant. She took such an interest in our daughter's well being and development and our daughter
loved her to bits. There was always great feedback on what our daughter had been up to each day which was lovely to know and very reassuring.
The team at the nursery are great and work so hard to make it such a lovely nursery. Our daughter will miss them!

Reply from Lynne-Marie Bedingfeld, Manager at Lower Earley Day Nursery (Yellow Brick House)

Thank you very much for your lovely comments. I will share them with your daughter's Keyworker. We all miss your daughter very much.

My son has been going to this nursery for more than a year now and his development is phenomenal. He has been picking up lots of new activities, new words, socializing with other children. I can see him learning a lot in terms of feeding himself, making big sentences, identifying shapes, colours, numbers
etc and most recently a big help with potty training him. The staff are very helpful in taking care of the individual needs of every child. He is being well-taken care of when it comes to food and any other medical needs. Would certainly recommend this nursery to others. Thankful to all the staff members for contributing towards his development.

Would happily recommend this nursery to anyone! Staff are all lovely, the activities they do with the children are brilliant, educational, engaging, seasonal and always so varied. Food and snacks offered are a great selection. My son loved the toys and outdoor play area here. Staff are great at keeping
in touch with what the children have eaten and done all day too. Would highly recommend.

I would like to write a review for Lower Earley Day nursery.

My son went to this nursery last year and is now finishing his first year at school. I cannot express enough how amazing this nursery and preschool was. I would especially like to praise the managers for all their hard work and commitment

to ensure his progress at the preschool and his transfer to primary school. They went above a beyond in making sure his hearing loss (he wears hearing aids) was not a factor holding him back from his classmates. They were always meeting with his teacher of the deaf and new primary teachers ensuring everyone had all the information needed and he was going in confident. It’s thanks to all the leg work by management and his key worker that he is the confident intelligent boy he is today.

They are not just teachers they treated us like family and I knew they really cared about his future, it was not just their job. Their passion shone through every day. Thank you

Reply from Jacqui Szrejder, Head of Nursery Operations at Lower Earley Day Nursery (Yellow Brick House)

Thank you for your comments which the staff team will really appreciate. We are so pleased that you feel your son was confident and ready for his transition to school and that he has continued to make excellent progress. It is lovely to hear your views after leaving for school and having the experience of both settings. Let's hope we are soon back to school/nursery again soon. From Jacqui - Head of Nursery Operations.

Our son started at Lower Earley Nursery in January and so far the staff have been fantastic. This is the first time we have left our little one with anyone that isn’t family and all the staff has done their utmost to make the transition as smooth as possible for us all.
We receive updates throughout
the days he is there (through an app) and we regularly receive observations and feedback on how he is doing. Activities are varied and it is lovely to see photos of his time there. His key worker is always available not only at pick up and drop off but also on the phone during the day.
Our son has found the transition to nursery a little difficult but the staff made suggestions on ways to ease this time and slowly he is adapting to the new routines. He also has multiple allergies which have been catered for fantastically. We know exactly what he has eaten each day (they list ingredients for us) and meals are adapted so that he isn’t missing out.

Reply from Lynne-Marie Bedingfeld, Nursery Manager at Lower Earley Day Nursery (Yellow Brick House)

Thank you very much for your review. We pride ourselves on ensuring settling in at our nursery is as smooth as possible, not only for the children but parents alike. We have a fantastic team here including our brilliant cook and I will ensure they see your lovely feedback.

My son has attended this nursery since he was 6 months old and he loves it. The staff have been great since the start, making us feel so welcome and it’s great to see how well he has settled in. The nursery have an App which is a useful tool to gauge how much he has slept and what he has eaten. It also
helps us to keep 'in touch' with our son during the day and track his experiences. The food provided by the nursery is particularly impressive; with many new and exciting things for the children to try. We love seeing how our son has developed and have no doubt the nursery has been key in this.

My son has spent nine months at the preschool and has enjoyed his time there. We have been pleased with social skills development and his learning setting him in good stead for starting school.
The preschool offers a mixed range of activities including French lessons and library visits, etc.
The
only downside is that on hot days there is limited shade meaning that the children cannot always get outside to play.
We found the preschool staff to be kind, caring and fun.
I was also impressed with the speed and ease of setting up the preschool placement.

We transferred from a smaller nursery which had perfectly suited our needs. The transition for my son was smoothly done and he settled quickly into a bigger and busier environment. This has its pros and cons as he became a little more reserved initially but his keyworkers (both of whom he knew previously)
helped smooth the way for him. He now bounds in each morning confidently telling me who he has played with that day. I get a good brief summary and its smiles all round! Plus there are some activities here: French, visits from Zoolabs etc that have provided a wonderful experience for him. The managers are all accessible and happy to help.

We have sent both of our daughters there and the most important thing is that they are happy ... My eldest joined little bears @10 months and my youngest @9 months. My eldest knows all the staff and is so comfortable there her development has been amazing. I find little bears so friendly, structured
and I feel like they really care. In the past, I have found when my eldest daughter in big bears' key person isn't there, they are disorganised and no one can give me feedback on her day and how she ate etc.

My daughter is extremely happy, her key workers know exactly how to handle her. I am pleasantly surprised how many activities they do in a day, my wishes and special arrangements have always been accommodated as much as possible.
The thing I love the most is that there is a fantastic atmosphere, all
key workers work together as a team and it just feels like a happy and friendly place.
I love that the food is freshly cooked on site, from scratch by an amazing chef.
I cannot praise them enough, the care and love that all key workers in Yellow Brick give to the children.
I can see that the room leader of Little Bears class has an amazing relationship with her key workers and she just has such a positive impact, yet is very organised and professional.
My only comment for improvement is that rooms are just a bit small.

Carers are absolutely fine. My daughter's key person is lovely and I am sure they have a good bond. However the nursery has too many restrictions which can disturb us a bit. There is not much space for buggies, which have to be folded down any time.

We are pleased with the staff. They work together very well and the children seem to know all of the staff well. Our son is never distressed when the key person is absent. The staff are professional, we have never seen personal issues affect their work, (our son). The premises inside are rich in resources
and are rotated so not many are out as a hazard. The outdoor gardens are used regularly. The staff are very good at teaching staying clean and safe, (good washing hands practice). The staff ratio is just perfect. The room leader is very fair, professional, caring and amazing with parents as well. We feel all staff listen to us and know us well.

Rather expensive, if you came up from Little Bears the reduction in feedback is quite noticeable, but having said that, the key person is reliable and very close to our child. Overall we feel safe and trust the staff on child's wellbeing and care.

A good nursery in terms of objectives set for children.
The staff here are fantastic, especially senior staff - they are caring and welcome parents feedback.
I feel the nursery could be made better with more educational resources, more learning-based activities and an improved catering menu.
My kids
have both enjoyed being here and have been looked after well.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.948)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.948) out of 10 for Lower Earley Day Nursery (Yellow Brick House) is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.810 for Lower Earley Day Nursery (Yellow Brick House) is calculated as follows: ( (70 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.81

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.138 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lower Earley Day Nursery (Yellow Brick House) is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 number of registered child places is 16. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 16 = 0.438

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
