Bright Horizons Southampton Nursling Day Nursery and Preschool (formerly Asquith Southampton Day Nursery) is based in the David Lloyd Leisure Club in Nursling, Southampton.

The nursery has light and spacious rooms that lead directly onto a beautiful garden area.

Working closely with parents, the team offer an exclusive settling in period ensuring that children are happy and confident before starting at the nursery.

The nursery consists of two baby rooms, two toddler rooms, a nursery and a preschool room.

Children take part in a variety of activities, appropriate for their age. For example, sensory play is a primary focus for babies as they learn about the world around them.

As they grow into toddlers, role-play becomes prominent, before they reach preschool age and focus shifts to more structured learning, getting the children ready for the move to school.

Bright Horizons' unique 'Ready for School' programme is implemented in the preschool room. The nursery also has 'Growing Enhancements' embedded in the daily routines, from Creative Cooks to Growing Artists.

The nursery also incorporates Growing Writers and Growing Mathematicians, working with the parents to develop the children’s skills both at home and at nursery through the play and learning at home activities.

Being outdoors is also a common theme, allowing children to experience all weathers as well as participate in the Growing Gardeners and Active Athletes programmes.

The garden is full of activities and resources to stimulate young minds, including a book corner and access to bikes and trikes.

The nursery is rated 'Good' by Ofsted, following an inspection in December 2022.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. My daughter usually doesn't settle very easily, but with Horizons girls, was quite quick. I'm sure she will learn many things and have loads of fun and friends. Definitely recommend it. Thank you for your support!

This nursery is fantastic and the staff is superb! They are constantly willing to support my child's developmental needs. Very pleased with this nursery and the caring workers there! Keep going! I only have one recommendation for all of Bright Horizon Nursery: If a child takes a break for a month or
two, there should be a minimum charge to keep the space and, if possible, not the full amount. Particularly in cases where we pay, but do not receive complete funding. In this challenging economic and financial scenario, I would greatly appreciate Bright Horizons to take this into consideration. Thanks.

Two particular ladies are so confident and happy, and it portrays to all the children. My child has gained confidence and speaks a lot more. He enjoys all the food and variety of fun activities that are all different every day. We are very happy with the great care.

My daughter loves going to nursery. The staff are wonderful and care so much about all of the children. Particularly the member of staff in the baby room was wonderful in helping to settle my daughter into the nursery. The food is also very good with a wide variety of healthy meals. The children participate
in all kinds of activities every day including sensory play, music, and lots of time outdoors. Communication home is excellent, especially with the addition of the families app so we are able to see photos of her day.

My son has been attending this nursery since he was one. He is now nearly four and I have been satisfied with every aspect of this establishment. All of the team at Southampton Day Nursery Nursling have been so wonderful for our little boy. He is a little delayed and therefore can be very challenging at times. They have always communicated well with both my husband and I so that we can all work together to achieve the best outcomes for his delays.
He is so happy at Southampton Day Nursery Nursling and we couldn't recommend the team more. Thank you to two girls in particular for all your hard work.

Both my girls love it here. The oldest starting at just 7 months and is now in preschool and the other has just started at 9 months. The staff are very friendly and I never worry about anything once they're dropped off as I know they're in the best hands. So many activities done daily with a run down
at each pickup. I know my girls are cared about by each staff member, and they all have time for every child. 100% recommend!

I'm very pleased with the nursery and how they are managing during these difficult times. My son is settling after not being left with anyone else for several months. The staff make sure he is well cared for and provide a fun and stimulating environment for him to play in. We get daily handovers which
provide us with how well he has eaten, slept and general care. The nursery sends us a weekly newsletter via email which is extremely informative. Thank you.

We have used Southampton nursery for four years and have always been very happy with the care shown to our children. They have both, significantly, developed during their time at nursery. I'm glad to say the amazing development of my Daughter at Asquith Day Nursery. We are from Brazil and at the beginning was very difficult for her to adapt to this new reality but after 2 months we noticed her happiness and socialisation with her (little) friends. Ellouise has been part of Bright Horizons for ten years, managing four nurseries since 2021. She notably oversaw Bright Horizons Southampton Nursling from May 2021 to September 2022, assisting in its post-lockdown reopening.


Witnessing the growth of children from our ‘then’ little babies bloom to preschool fills her with joy. Ellouise is driven by her passion to nurture children's emotional

Job Title: Deputy Manager

My name is Mel and I have worked at Bright Horizons Nursling for almost 3 years. Previous to this role I have worked in both nursery and school settings as well as running both Beaver Scout and Cub Scout groups. Childcare is something that I have always wanted to do since I was a teenager. Following school, I studied to become a nursery nurse. I worked in a preschool for 10 years and only left because I had my own children by then and I wanted to spend more time with them. While my 2 sons were at school I studied for a degree in Childhood while also working part-time. Since this, I have worked as a teaching assistant, and a nursery nurse and from there have worked my way up to management. I love my role, particularly in making a difference for children.


When I am not at work I love walking my spaniel, Shelley.
