Bright Horizons Southampton Nursling Day Nursery and Preschool (formerly Asquith Southampton Day Nursery) is based in the David Lloyd Leisure Club in Nursling, Southampton.

The nursery has light and spacious rooms that lead directly onto a beautiful garden area.

Working closely with parents, the team offer an exclusive settling in period ensuring that children are happy and confident before starting at the nursery.

The nursery consists of two baby rooms, two toddler rooms, a nursery and a preschool room.

Children take part in a variety of activities, appropriate for their age. For example, sensory play is a primary focus for babies as they learn about the world around them.

As they grow into toddlers, role-play becomes prominent, before they reach preschool age and focus shifts to more structured learning, getting the children ready for the move to school.

Bright Horizons' unique 'Ready for School' programme is implemented in the preschool room. The nursery also has 'Growing Enhancements' embedded in the daily routines, from Creative Cooks to Growing Artists.

The nursery also incorporates Growing Writers and Growing Mathematicians, working with the parents to develop the children’s skills both at home and at nursery through the play and learning at home activities.

Being outdoors is also a common theme, allowing children to experience all weathers as well as participate in the Growing Gardeners and Active Athletes programmes.

The garden is full of activities and resources to stimulate young minds, including a book corner and access to bikes and trikes.

The nursery is rated 'Good' by Ofsted, following an inspection in December 2022.

All the staff are friendly and welcoming! They all appear to know all of the children.
My son comes home happy every time. He loves going to nursery in the mornings.
My son has developed a great deal in a short amount of time.
We regularly receive letters inviting us to events. Staff always let
you know how your child has been and what they have eaten.
You receive a beautiful book fill of photos from the child's settling in sessions.

Since our son started at 10 months, we have been really pleased with the staff and the facilities. The settle sessions were great to build relationships with the staff, so when our son started, we were happy to leave him and he really enjoys going. I would really recommend the nursery to others.

Our son thoroughly enjoys his time at the nursery. He looks forward to his days and often does not want to leave. We have always been pleased with his care and the high level of care he receives. My son came to the nursery after having cleft palate surgery. The staff have been so helpful and accommodating to his needs. I have felt fully supported as a parent during his time here, and feel the staff are fully invested in his development. In particular, the seven-week settling in period was a
godsend which other nurseries just didn't seem to offer. I'd highly recommend this nursery to others.

I am very happy with the service that the nursery are providing. My older son who is now 6 went here from 18 months until he started school and now my second son is here who has just turned 2 years old. The staff are friendly and experienced and I like that there is not a high staff turnover and lots
of familiar faces. Both my boys have been very happy here.

We have been so pleasantly surprised to find my sons settling in sessions to be such a rewarding and enjoyable experience. To see him develop and enjoy himself, whilst we all build trusting relationships with his dedicated carers. There is always a friendly welcome and the attention to detail has been
exceptional. I never expected the transition back to work would be a positive time, but it really has been and I'm very grateful to the team at Southampton Day Nursery. I'm certain this settling in experience is unique, the time and effort put into getting to know my son. Thank You.

My child started 4 weeks ago, we had lots of settling in sessions which helped lots. The staff are great and I feel my son is well looked after, safe and happy there. It is very expensive but clearly I want the best for my child. The nursery has been very welcoming. I am very happy with the whole experience

I have been impressed from the start with this nursery. From the thorough settling in sessions to the detailed development plans that are created for my daughter, the professionalism displayed has been second to none. My daughter has special needs and the staff have received special medical training
to help her with her care. I love the way that they talk to her and the hands on way that they work on her development. She loves going to nursery and has come on leaps and bounds since attending.

Our little girl started at Asquith Southampton in August 2014, and has been booked in since I was pregnant. She was unwell in her first year of life, and when due to start had a feeding tube in place. The nursery honoured their commitment to us in taking her with her tube, which involved being trained
(a medical procedure which carries risk if done incorrectly) and doing this every day she was in nursery.
Thankfully, she is now doing really well now and eating normally. The staff have been amazing and supported us so well during this anxious period, and enabled me to return to work. They are incredibly caring, thorough and professional, and I cannot rate them highly enough.

This is our second experience with Southampton Day Nursery and the quality of care we've received has been excellent. I cannot thank all the staff at Southampton Day Nursery enough. The care and attention my daughter receives is fantastic. She is always happy to come to nursery and is always happy and busy when I collect her. The baby room staff have gone to great efforts to follow her routine and build great bonds
with her. I love seeing all her art work and pictures that the staff take on a daily basis, and I know a lot of time and effort goes into her planning. Thank you so much.

Ellouise has been part of Bright Horizons for ten years, managing four nurseries since 2021. She notably oversaw Bright Horizons Southampton Nursling from May 2021 to September 2022, assisting in its post-lockdown reopening.


Witnessing the growth of children from our ‘then’ little babies bloom to preschool fills her with joy. Ellouise is driven by her passion to nurture children's emotional
well-being and aims to ensure each child thrives, feels valued, loved, and truly belongs.

Job Title: Deputy Manager

My name is Mel and I have worked at Bright Horizons Nursling for almost 3 years. Previous to this role I have worked in both nursery and school settings as well as running both Beaver Scout and Cub Scout groups. Childcare is something that I have always wanted to do since I was a teenager. Following school, I studied to become a nursery nurse. I worked in a preschool for 10 years and only left because I had my own children by then and I wanted to spend more time with them. While my 2 sons were at school I studied for a degree in Childhood while also working part-time. Since this, I have worked as a teaching assistant, and a nursery nurse and from there have worked my way up to management. I love my role, particularly in making a difference for children.


When I am not at work I love walking my spaniel, Shelley.
