Rainbow Corner Southsea is well-respected in the local area, having provided friendly and professional childcare services for almost three decades. The facility is ideal for the care and learning goals of three months to eight years of age, registered for sixty places and looking to be versatile to the childcare hours parents need.

The school is divided into three care groups according to age, following a free flow 'learning through play' curriculum, that allows children to have access to their own garden spaces.

Each group has a room leader who oversees the running of the group and each child has a Key Worker who has overall responsibility for that child’s learning and development.

The children progress through these groups during their time with st the nursery, developing the various skills, attitudes and levels of maturity until they embark on preschool activities in the Butterfly group during their final years.

Each group is an established ‘free flow’ environment, allowing and encouraging children to make their own choices and decisions, using their imaginations. Children’s developmental progress is monitored and any gaps identified, children’s individual interests are adapted and developed to encourage and support them in achieving their next steps of learning.

When young children select their own play experiences they:
-Concentrate on their interests, allowing for enjoyment and safety.
-Make choices and decisions about what they are going to do, how and where they are going to do it and who they will work with, building on their confidence and independence.
-Practice and apply what they know and start to explore new possibilities, learning new ways to do things.
-Incubate new thoughts as they form ideas and try them out in a relaxed and unpressurised way, then return to them and think them over, testing their own ideas and developing their learning through trial and error.

All three of my children have attended Rainbow Corner and I am so glad that they all had the opportunity to attend a setting where all the staff are so lovely and provide such high standards of care. We have used other nurseries but there isn’t any comparison to the attention to detail that Rainbow
Corner provides. My children have always enjoyed nursery; my older two have really fond memories of their time there. The staff clearly know the children really well and provide good daily feedback, both on the gate and through the online care diary. The food is well balanced, with an interesting and varied menu. The nursery is well organised and managed, it’s always easy to talk to someone on the phone or via email. I would definitely recommend Rainbow Corner to anyone looking for a nursery for their child.

My son has done amazingly well at Rainbow Corner. The staff are brilliant and I have nothing but praise for all the work they do. He has grown so much in confidence and learnt a lot in his time at the nursery and I am sad that his time there is over.
Communication between parents and the nursery is
exceptional and I always felt in the loop with what was going on with my son and with the nursery in general.
I thoroughly recommend the nursery as it is a great place.

I can't recommend Rainbow Corner highly enough. The staff are amazing, friendly and they really care about the children - really getting to know them. Both my kids have just loved their time there. They bounce out of the nursery each day happy and smiling and excited about their day - what more could
you want... If I could give the team 20 stars I would! Thank you to everyone at Rainbow Corner.

Rainbow Corner Nursery has exceeded my expectations of what a nursery is. My daughter absolutely loves attending and her development is amazing! The staff in the Grasshoppers class have all been so friendly and I love hearing all about what she gets up to every day!

After 7 years and 2 children, it's time to say goodbye to our second home and Rainbow Corner nursery family. You have given both my children their wings to fly into this crazy world with confidence, good manners and love in their hearts. It has been a pleasure and honour to know you all. We will never
ever forget you especially the wonderful staff. I will always speak highly of the nursery and forever be grateful for taking care of the most precious people in my life, my children. We love you all. We will be popping around soon to see you all and say our proper goodbyes. Stay safe.

Reply from Emma Fowles, Operations Manager at Rainbow Corner Southsea

Wow, this brought a tear to my eye. I cannot believe they have both now left to go to school. We are all going to miss you all! Thank you so much for all your support over the past 7 years, it really does mean a lot to us.

Friendly staff who take extra care every day with my son, he loves coming to nursery and when we do things on non-nursery days he is always keen to tell his key workers about what he’s been up to! He has lots of friends and the nursery staff know him well. They always go above and beyond to make sure
his needs and interests are met and are always there to give him a cuddle if he’s upset! I can’t wait to send my daughter to nursery next month for the first time because I know she will love it as much as he does.

Reply from Emma Fowles, Operations Manager at Rainbow Corner Southsea

I think the nursery has helped massively with my daughter's development and she has met some lovely friends and teachers along the way.
My daughter's speech is superb and I believe that’s through the interaction she receives from the nursery.

I found the staff at Rainbow corner very welcoming and friendly. My daughter had a bit of separation anxiety at first but the Grasshopper staff settled her into the group patiently and was able to distract her positively. My daughter is thriving since she started nursery and looks forward to going.

My four-year-old daughter has been attending Rainbow Corner since she was nine-months-old. Throughout her time there, and transition through each group, she has made friends. The nursery provides a variety of learning experiences, fun and a nurturing environment for children. I would not choose any
other nursery! The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and I know the children's needs/qualities, likes and dislikes very well. Overall, a lovely, nurturing and happy environment for children!

My son changed nursery in June 2020, following the first lockdown. All the staff have been supportive, and he has continued to thrive and develop well. I am very happy with him being there.

The staff have been so welcoming, accommodating and kind since our little boy started at Rainbow Corner. He comes out smiling after every session, we love seeing updates from his day, his development has come on so quickly since starting just 4 months ago and his eating too.

Criticism that I would give to the nursery is staff retention is poor - me and her dad have seen various new members of staff over the 6 months she was there.
Also, not enough BAME children in my daughters class (black and minority ethnicities)
As a first-time parent, they had a tendency to speak
down to me! Stop this!
I work for the NHS and although we are business we put the lives of our patients FIRST, this nursery is definitely more of a money-driven business.
And lastly please understand us as parents just want a loving and safe place for our children while we are at work trying to better their futures the way you treat us is just as important as the way you treat our children !!
P.s My daughter's key worker and the manager of her room were lovely and this is no reflection on them whatsoever because of YOU was the reason we didn’t leave any earlier.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.100)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.100) out of 10 for Rainbow Corner Southsea is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Rainbow Corner Southsea is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.1 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rainbow Corner Southsea is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 number of registered child places is 12. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.5

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
