St Andrew’s Prep Nursery, located in the picturesque grounds of St Andrew’s Prep in Meads, Eastbourne, provides a nurturing early years experience for children aged nine months to four years. Close to Eastbourne town and areas like East Dean, Willingdon and Polegate, the nursery fosters a magical environment where children thrive.

The Starlings Room, for children nine months to two years, offers a warm, secure space with two rooms for exploration and individual attention. Babies enjoy personal care, peaceful sleep areas with individual cots and freshly laundered sheets. At age two, children move to the vibrant Nightingale Room, where they start learning in a light-filled space that encourages curiosity.

As children approach three, they transition to the Early Years Foundation Stage Hub, which includes the Chaffinch and Kingfisher classes in the Casson Building. This innovative hub, also home to Reception, offers opportunities for collaboration and creativity.

Each age group enjoys bespoke areas with activities like painting, role play, story time and dressing up. Social interaction and peer learning develop essential skills. The curriculum includes specialist sessions like Cheeky Chefs (cooking), Forest Fun (Woodlands Classroom), Gym Joeys (physical development), Music Maestros (rhythm and instruments) and Tiny Dancers (creative dance). Qualified teachers bring these to life.

Outdoor play is vital, with large, secure spaces for running, climbing and exploring. Children have access to a music and dance room and older ones visit the beach, five minutes away. Daily outings encourage fresh air and local exploration.

The nursery promotes healthy eating, with meals prepared on-site using locally sourced ingredients. St Andrew’s Prep Nursery is a place where young minds and bodies flourish in a safe, magical world of discovery.

Delighted by St Andrew’s Prep Nursery and the quality and range of the provision. Our son has been very happy since joining and bounds into the nursery in the morning. The staff have helped him develop in lots of ways, and have responded very well to him as an individual. They are very caring, and as
a result, our son is very happy. I’d also say the nursery promotes kindness well. We also value and appreciate the use of the school facilities on-site - sports, music and dining hall.

I could not be happier with St Andrew’s Prep Nursery. My son is deaf and a user of cochlear implants; the staff have been amazing with him, encouraging his speech and signing with him, and I feel that they are genuinely invested in his progress. It is so reassuring to know he is so well cared for. He
looks forward to going in the morning and is always so happy when we collect him. They offer a wide range of extra activities, and he particularly enjoys the dance lessons. I would definitely recommend this nursery!

An outstanding nursery. The staff know each individual child for who they are, and as a result, our three children have thrived and developed significantly under their care. The access children have to the wider school facilities and specialist teachers is fantastic. I would highly recommend St Andrew's
Prep Nursery.

I moved my daughter here from another setting as she just was not happy there, and since moving my daughter to St Andrew's, she has come on such a long way and absolutely loves going! The staff are all lovely and accommodating, and nothing is ever too much for them.

A lovely nursery, very caring and enthusiastic staff who work well together. A very varied timetable with plenty of extra curricular activities. Lovely setting. I really like the ability of the nursery to utilise the wide facilities the school provides like the swimming pool, library, Forest School,
gym. I thoroughly enjoy the performances that are put on for the parents like Christmas songs, Harvest Festivals. My children have all been so happy here.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.625)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.625) out of 10 for St Andrew's Prep Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.917 for St Andrew's Prep Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (46 Excellents x 5) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.917

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.708 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Andrew's Prep Nursery is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 number of registered child places is 12. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.333

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
