I took my 12-week-old baby to this nursery very reluctantly as she was such a young baby, but I cannot describe in words how comforting and caring all the staff who took care of my baby were. They even cared about my feelings and made sure I was happy and felt like I could be in control and talk with
them anytime. My child is a happy and structured 9 month old all because we work together as a team. She is now trying warm food from the nursery, which she is enjoying and is coming on leaps and bounds.

My little boy started nursery when he was a year old. He's really come out of his shell and thrived during his time at the Bear's House. He's made some lovely friends, and the staff have all been very supportive, professional and nurturing.
Our favourite things about the nursery are 1) the lovely,
big outside space that's always well maintained and the children seem to use it a lot.
2) the food is all made on-site and from scratch.

The staff here care so much and they and the manager have been very supportive. They find interesting and exciting activities and I love seeing all the toys set up every morning. All the children seem happy and content. The additional support we've needed has been wonderful and I feel confident when
I drop my child off that he will be well cared for.

I've been so impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment of the staff at Bear's House. They've always been sensitive to our child's needs and let them grow and develop at their own pace. The outside space is great so the children have loads of time to run around and explore and they've recently started
doing more outings with the children. They split the children up by age but there are a lot of opportunities for the children to mix, especially in the outside space. They have a good balance of free play and slightly more structured activities to support their development.

We are delighted with Bear's House. My daughter seemed to have quite an extreme separation anxiety which meant the settle-in period lasted for a long time and involved a lot of loud screaming but the staff and manager were incredible and allowed us to go at our own pace and offered much-appreciated
guidance.
Now my daughter is settled, she has an absolutely wonderful time, and we couldn't be more delighted with the care she receives. The staff know her really well, and she is allowed the space to be herself.
In addition to the wonderful staff, the manager is an absolute gem. Her office is always open and situated in the middle of the shared outdoor space. I have found her to be incredibly approachable, professional and responsive, and, like many of the staff, driven by a deep understanding of child development.
Thanks, Bear's House, for giving it 100%, even single day.

This is my second experience at Bear's House after my eldest child enjoyed it so much. My youngest took several weeks to settle in, but the staff were very supportive, and communication was excellent.

We could not be happier with the support and interest that this nursery and the amazing staff are giving to us and our child. They will go above and beyond in every single situation and they are enthusiastic and professional in everything they are involved in.
We have seen our little one flourish and
grow in this setting and we feel blessed we found them.
The space is amazing for our little one as there is a huge outside area that is easily accessible whenever he wants and the inside rooms are clean and organized for all sorts of activities every day.
Management is going above and beyond with any sort of request and they follow every single child enthusiastically as they progress through their development. It is obvious the work ethic and enthusiasm they have is trickling down to the rest of the staff.

I have loved the nursery from the moment my daughter began here when she was 9 months old. I cannot fault the members of staff, and especially her key worker. They all do exceptional jobs and my daughter talks so positively of her experiences at the nursery. I do worry about the staff turnover, and
occasionally I haven’t been introduced to new members of staff, but they all seem friendly and welcoming. My daughter's development is beyond what I could have ever imagined and this is due to the activities, relationships and communications that the nursery offers and support with. My daughter has had worries with her diet, and the nursery have been open about these and amended her menu to suit her needs immediately. I have absolutely no concerns regarding my daughter, and cannot rave highly enough for Bear's House Nursery, Brighton.

When my daughter started at Bear's House Nursery, Brighton it was known by a different name. The setting was pleasant but we had some issues with a couple of the nursery assistants, these were based in professionalism and attitude. The manager was also a problem, so much so that we were looking to move
nurseries.
When the nursery changed hands and became Bear's House they quickly got rid of the manager and instilled a new one, who turned the nursery around. Bear's House is now a place I would recommend to any parent. Supportive, caring and professional describe all staff. Clean, modern and well equipped describe the nursery.

Our daughter absolutely loved her time at Bears House. Despite the disruption caused by Covid the staff were always amazing and put on imaginative activities every day to encourage the children to learn and play. It is a lovely setting with a fantastic outdoor space, the communication from staff and
management was always good and our daughter loved the food so much that she would be upset if she got picked up before tea time.

My child has been at Bear's House since she was 2 and she has loved it there so much, she's always so excited to go! All the staff are lovely and the manager is amazing! Great feedback from staff every day. Very sad to be leaving Bear's House and we will miss it very much. They have great outdoor space
and always have fun activities for the children. They have also been great with following the new guidelines with the new restrictions in place. Overall a great nursery that I will miss when we move. Thank you to all the staff and management for taking good care of my daughter.

Both my boys have been very happy here. My eldest attended the preschool until last summer and he loved the fantastic outside space, the outings and the fun staff.
My youngest is currently in the baby room and it’s great that it’s a small nursery so I feel that he gets lots of attention and has settled
easily. There are lots of activities daily and my youngest’s Key Worker, in particular, goes to great lengths to care for him just how I would like by following his home routine and paying particular attention to what he likes to eat. Nothing is too much trouble and I feel like we belong to the Bears House family.

My 2-year-old boy feels happy and settled in this lovely nursery. I usually have to bribe him to come back home.
The management keeps on improving all aspects of care and there is a big feeling that all plans are made with the children at the very heart. Highly recommended.

Our daughter has been at Bear's House (formerly Strawberry Hill) for three and a half years and has enjoyed herself immensely. There is a good mix of internal and external play. Recently they have also started to take the children out on field trips. We have also found the tapestry system to be very
useful for being kept updated. Monthly newsletters are also very helpful. Most importantly we have found all the staff to be friendly, caring and to genuinely have the interest of the children as a priority.

An amazing environment, where my child has been for the last three years. The staff is amazing, kind and loving. There is so much going on that it is a very stimulating environment and interesting. In the last six months, they have organised day visits to local parks, the Pavillion, toy museum, and
other visits that teach children to be in different environments and situations and build fantastic memories.
The food is prepared onsite and is balanced, varied and flexible, so if the kids do not like it they can change it straight away, no need to wait for the "new menu" in six months time.
It is a very friendly environment that enables all children to grow at their own pace.

My child is very happy at Strawberry Hill and is thriving there. The staff are very friendly and caring, and they plan a fun and challenging activities for the children, and the manager strives to have a positive and open relationship with families. I really welcome all the many improvements to the
nursery's site and provision, including updating the buildings, enhancing the large garden and play area, taking the children on enrichment trips into the local community, visiting with elderly people in a local care home, going on museum trips, and attending a Forest School programme of play and learning in Nature. Fresh healthy food is provided from their kitchen which has an impressive 5* hygiene rating. The rate of fees is competitive for the area. My son is very happy here, which is the most important thing.

We have been delighted with the recent developments at Strawberry Hill. Our son is now three and has attended since he was 8 months old. The staff continue to display a dedicated and caring approach to their work and are creative in their planning of activities.
There have been developments to the
outside areas and buildings which we appreciate. The children are engaging in Forest schools and are getting out to parks, museums, farms and elderly residential homes in recent months to broaden their experiences. The use of Tapestry has developed reporting, which along with daily feedback helps us keep in touch with how our son is doing. Recent introduction of an onsite kitchen means the children are benefiting from healthy fresh varied meals eaten communally which I really value. Most of all he is so happy to be there which is most valuable to me!

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.591)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.591) out of 10 for Bear's House Nursery, Brighton is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Bear's House Nursery, Brighton is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.591 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bear's House Nursery, Brighton is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 number of registered child places is 8.8. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.8 = 0.341

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
