Young Sussex Nursery (Brighton) is an OFSTED Outstanding nursery (June 2022) with an experienced and qualified staff team who put the children’s happiness, well-being and safety first.

The children learn and have fun in a stimulating, friendly and loving environment benefiting from a wide choice of resources and activities such as music groups, yoga and cookery classes.

Being a large converted family house, the nursery has a homely feel with large interconnecting rooms and two spacious outdoor play areas.

The nursery offers flexible childcare with half-day, school day and full-day options. Session swaps and the option to book extra sessions add further flexibility. Care is available term-time or full-time.

Free Early Learning Funding is available for 3 and 4-year-olds (15 hours universal/30 hours if eligible) as well as eligible 2-year-olds (15 hours).

Young Sussex received the 2018 and 2020 Award: Top 20 Nursery Group Award for ‘Most Recommended Small Nursery Groups' in the UK.

We are extremely happy about the care/education and service provided by Young Sussex for our daughter. She thrives at the nursery. She enjoys the days she spends with the staff and other users of the nursery and her personal skill development has been enhanced by the activities provided.
We are given
daily updates from hours slept/food eaten/activities which provide us with a comprehensive summary of what she had done - leaving us confident in the staff.
Our daughter has a great relationship with her key person whom she adores.

We love Dyke Road Young Sussex. Our daughter has settled in really well, she adores her key worker and looks forward to going every time which is fabulous. Her learning, speech, social skills and general understanding have come on leaps and bounds since joining. She has made so many friends and talks

We have been delighted with the nursery over the last 2 years. Our children have been extremely happy and love all the staff there. The staff have been fantastic settling the children in and enabling them to learn, play and have fun. The range of activities is great and yoga is a current favourite!
The staff are very attentive and offer advice when needed and support the children and parents. The management staff have been fantastic especially when adding in extra sessions at the last minute!! It has been wonderful to see our children developing in safe nurturing environment and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the nursery.

We are delighted that Young Sussex had vacancies for our children. Both of them have been regular attenders since they were six months. I was pretty nervous taking my son to another nursery as at his previous one he did not settle into. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find the whole experience easy and efficient. The staff here are so understanding and have made me feel at ease throughout. I have total confidence in their ability
to nurture, teach and be kind to my son. In particular the manager has been superb in her understanding and patience and my son's key worker has been fantastic. I'm so happy that my son is so happy here!

Young Sussex was our choice for our 2 month old to help out after I went back to work. We choose to start from 2 days a week and in the past 3 months its been a pleasure to see her settle in with great staff. Fantastic monitoring and development and lovely premises. Both my sons attended Young Sussex Dyke Road from when they were 1 year olds up until they started school. The boys loved their time there. The staff are so warm and really care for the children. And they think up a fantastic range of activities for all ages. I fully recommend this nursery.

My son went to young sussex for only 6 months but he really enjoyed it there. My son is bilingual and his key teacher could speak Turkish too. His key teacher was amazing and got my son involved with other kids very quickly. Their garden is a great space which is well looked after and really safe. The
toilets are always clean and tidy. I would like to thank each member of Sussex nursery for doing an amazing job.

From the beginning of my time with Young Sussex (Sept 2012), I've always found the staff members to be very approachable and extremely helpful wherever possible. I've always been very grateful for all that they do to support and assist and particularly appreciated this during our first year with Young
Sussex. It was a very difficult time of adjustment, especially as we had just moved to Brighton knowing no one and I worked so far away in from my little girl.


We also feel very lucky to have gained the amazing after nursery support from two of the carers there. They continue to be a part of our little family helping wherever possible. We are truly grateful that Young Sussex brought them to us.


I know my daughter absolutely loves it there and has learnt a great deal to prepare her for her big entry into school next year.


Young Sussex is a nice place to go to and particularly so when you have that comfort you so desire leaving your little loves there without you.

My two daughters have attended Young Sussex Dyke Road since September 2013, the older one is about to leave to start school. I have been very happy with the care provided and would definitely recommend it to other parents. The staff are all enthusiastic, caring and make the effort to update you on your
child's day and overall progress. Our children settled in easily and have formed good attachments to the staff looking after them. Lots of fun activities are planned, the days are structured but with plenty of free play with a progression to a more structured routine as children get older. Visits from external providers also take place such as music classes, The Outdoors Project and African drumming. Meals and snacks are healthy and varied. There is a pleasant outside space which the children all access every day. Staff will work with parents to ensure that a child's routine and individual needs are catered for, and will devise and use reward charts and methods to encourage desired behaviours as needed, such as for potty training, always in conjunction with discussion with parents. There are excellent communication methods e.g. day sheets, link books between home and nursery, Theme Leaflets for each cycle of learning, newsletters and parents' evenings. The managing staff are very prompt at responding to telephone calls and emails, and are always happy to answer queries and help. The most impressive (and I feel unusual) aspect is the amazing flexibility offered - various types of sessions are offered, with the option to add earlier starts and finishes as required, and swapping of days if needed - they are almost always able to accommodate this, and it has been a godsend for us! No hesitation in recommending.

I have had three children attend young Sussex at all different ages. Young Sussex has been a warm, nurturing environment for my children. They provide a wide variety of fun, developmentally appropriate activities and maintain a high standard of safety. The management is very approachable. They will
take the time to sit with you and try their best to meet your scheduling needs, as well as being sensitive to the overall needs of families and individual children.

Job Title: Nursery Manager

Joined: 2007

After leaving school, I studied Health & Social Care, knowing that I wanted a career helping people. This included a placement in a nursery, which I loved, and I’ve not looked back since!


For ten years, I worked my way up in a local nursery to be their Deputy Manager. I was also working with children aged 3-16 in a Women’s Refuge Project (now RISE). In 2007, I joined Young Sussex as Deputy Manager and was promoted to Nursery Manager in early 2012.


As a manager, I enjoy being on the frontline and having that initial and lasting contact with parents. As a parent of two children who also attended Young Sussex, I feel I can relate to parents starting at the nursery, empathise with their situation and help them throughout their child’s time at nursery.
