The Woodside Centre is a nursery located in Tiverton, Devon.

Woodside Nursery is managed by Early Years Alliance offering early years care and education for children aged three months to five years, alongside they are a recipient of the government funding for childcare for qualifying two-year-olds and all three and four-year-olds.

Their friendly and well-qualified nursery staff give children exciting and stimulating learning opportunities. Within a safe, friendly and fun environment, including indoor and outdoor play areas, children are supported by qualified staff in developing a wide range of skills and interests. Each child is supported by a key person who understands their individual needs and offers special support to them.

The Baby Room, with the team's nurturing natures, have created a calm area for the babies to play and explore in. The small area also means the babies get space to have one-to-one time with their key person, babies individual routines are followed.

The Toddler Room provides a stimulating, fun learning environment for the children. Children have the opportunity to explore the environment through creative and imaginative play and have opportunities to work in small groups with their key person, to extend personal, social and emotional skills, enabling them to develop independence and a 'have a go' attitude.

the Pre-School Room recognises that children need to be in a secure environment to grow and learn. Before they focus on getting the children school ready, the team develop relationships, seeking to understand how they learn and what inspires them. Within this area, the children’s learning is extended through a range of resources and activities. It focuses on letters and sounds as well as numeracy and independence. The ethos of learning through play is continued within the pre-school room and activities are targeted at children’s interests.

My child attended Woodside Nursery from the baby room all the way to the pre-school, and she loved every single second. The staff are really welcoming and become our second family, the staff are very accommodating to her dietary requirements and always make every day exciting by experiencing lots of
different activities both inside and outdoors.

Highly recommend this friendly and professional nursery. My grandchildren were very happy in the nursery, making new friends with the other children and the supportive staff. The indoor and outdoor activities are exciting and well thought out, gripping the imagination of my grandson. The children experience
a wide range of activities including music, singing songs and yoga.

Thank you so much for your review! I am so glad you can see that your grandson is so happy at Woodside. Developing a good imagination is key at Woodside. We love to explore pretend play and the children are the best at that!

The Woodside Centre has been an amazing nursery. I swapped to this nursery as felt like I wasn't getting all the relevant support regarding paperwork and handovers with my SEN child. Woodside has been so thorough with paperwork, handovers and reviews. Helped with ideas to help my SEN child. Helped me
get an EHCP and have made my SEN child feel safe, happy and loved. I trust them all wholeheartedly. Due to my great experience with my eldest child my youngest child has started at the nursery and is also thriving. The staff are all so warm, welcoming and professional.

My daughter has been going to The Woodside Centre for almost a year now and she loves it. Every day she goes, she runs in happy and smiling. The staff not only make her but also makes the parent feel very welcome every day. They get up to lots of different activities every day and with an app, I can
check in and get updates on what she is up to. Plus, we get to see how she develops over time which is lovely with pictures and a note from her key worker. My daughter loves going to nursery and gets excited whenever I mention going.

My daughter loves this nursery. She started just over a year ago. When my daughter first started she was very nervous and had a speech delay. Since starting at The Woodside Centre her speech and learning skills have improved massively. The staff are really friendly and cater for all of our needs as
a family as well as my daughter's own individual needs.

I am unbelievably happy we are with everyone’s hard work and support there has been for my two children at the nursery. The improvement we have seen in both of them is amazing. The love they have each day going into nursery and seeing all the members of staff they have working with them every day.
The
facilities and support available to the children is amazing. The food provided is always wonderful and both my children eat so well.
I can’t explain how happy I am dropping them off each day and seeing their happy faces. As a working mum it relieves so much pressure for me. Thank you so much everyone you are all doing amazing!

The staff at Woodside are amazing! My son is very happy there and they are so welcoming every morning he goes in with smiles and returns with smiles. The app is also great. I love that I can see how my little man is getting on without having to contact them directly. If we have a bad start to the day,
I get regular picture updates and can see how calm and what a good time he's having. He has come so far going to Woodside; becoming more interactive with other children and learning to share. He has had a brilliant time with all the staff I can't put into words how lovely they all are. Would highly recommend to anyone asking for a small, local nursery.

Our daughter has been at The Woodside since she was 10-months-old and is now 2 and a half. After being quite an anxious baby being left, she quickly got used to the environment and quickly enjoyed her time at The Woodside. She is always excited to go and really gets on well with all of the staff. She
loves the food there too.

The team are able to keep the same sleeping/eating routine as we have at home, which is important for me. She's been developing really well since she's been at The Woodside and has learnt things that we'd never even think of doing at home.

She spends a lot of time outdoors, which I like, especially when the weather is nice, but even playing in the muddy puddles.

We like seeing the updates.

I have no doubt that this is an exceptional nursery because of the team working there, who have a great attitude from the top down, and back up again.

What I love most about Woodside is the genuine and personal connection both the staff (and management) have with children and families who use the service.
You get regular updates on your child's progress/development. We viewed a number of nurseries locally before settling with Woodside, and we are
confident we made the right decision for both of our children. I have already recommended this provision to a number of friends locally. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.563)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.563) out of 10 for The Woodside Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.979 for The Woodside Centre is calculated as follows: ( (94 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.979

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.584 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Woodside Centre is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 number of registered child places is 10.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.784

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Jo

Job Title: Assistant Manager

I am Jo, and I have been working at Woodside Nursery for five years, starting as a Nursery Worker then Senior Room Lead and now Assistant Manager with SENCO responsibilities.

My first experience in a nursery was when I trained in the Montessori method of nursery teaching. Before completion I had my first daughter and for work reasons moved to Italy. In Italy I worked as a language teacher, teaching five to eleven year olds.

After eight years living in Italy, we, five children and I returned to England and I completed a Level 3 in Early Years and Childcare. Five years later on completion of an initial teacher training course, I taught Music and Drama in secondary school for almost nine years. Caring for the elderly, for a while bought me to Woodside when I visited with a parent and liked it so much, I now work here.

My life’s experiences with children of all ages, has helped me to nurture and teach children using my strengths. I also use a lot of musically inspired activities, teaching the children mathematics and literacy using their favourite songs and playing instruments. As an artist, I fill the craft table with a variety of ideas enabling the children to be creative.

Each month, I like to introduce new subjects and books that match the activities as books and reading are vital to a child’s development. I also include activities in the garden and tell the children all about growing vegetables and show them insects that live under logs of wood.

I have worked with parents through the development of their children and enjoy supporting any special needs. I support other nursery workers by suggesting ways of learning or creating exciting activities to help our children develop and grow.

Job Title: Nursery Chef

I have worked here at Woodside for just over 6 years, and I have 2 roles within the nursery. My main role is as a nursery Chef Whereby I plan and produce health, well balanced and nutritious meals catering for all allergies that need to be taken into account.

When Ofsted inspected in December 2022, they observed that my meals were homemade and wholesome, and the Food Standards Agency agreed in January 2023 by awarding me another 5 star rating!

My other role is a Flexi Worker so that I can work on the floor with the children whatever age as I am qualified to Level 3 with a Diploma in PreSchool Practice.

When I am not working, I love exploring the beautiful southwest beaches and going for walks among nature in the woods and on the moors. But spending time with my lovely family is the thing I love doing the most.

Hello, I’m Jessica! I started at Woodside nursery as the 2-3 lead in January 2023 after working as toddler room lead in an Exeter nursery for the last 4 years although I spent 9 months of this time on maternity leave after having my first child, on Christmas Day 2021! I have recently moved to Tiverton with my daughter and partner after living in Sidmouth all my life! In my spare time I am enjoying exploring the local areas around Tiverton and getting to know my new home town. I also enjoy going for runs in the evening to recharge and I am currently working on the couch to 5k with the ambition of running a race at the end of the year! When I’m not at work or running around Tiverton I enjoy switching my brain off by baking yummy cakes or doing a paint by numbers! I trained in level 3 childcare with Exeter College which bought lots of opportunities to gain work experience with 0-7 year olds and I’ve worked with children ever since. Working with children brings me so much joy and truly is my passion in life, there is nothing better than seeing the smiling innocent faces and watching the next generation grow! At work I love reading stories and getting messy in the sensory tray! At work my colleagues would probably say I can be quiet at times, reliable and professional but my friends and family would say I’m a bit crazy.

I’m Adelaide and I am the Nursery Manager at Woodside. I’ve been at Woodside for a year now and love it here. It is a fabulous nursery with a great space for children to play and learn. It is such a warm and friendly environment to work in and the staff are lovely. I am excited to see what the future holds here since we had our Ofsted inspection in December 2022 where we received a Good rating which we are all delighted with.
I have worked in childcare for the last 15 years. I have worked with all ages, from Early Years to age eleven. I love all ages but my real passion is the Early Years. I am fascinated by how different the children’s personalities are and how they develop and grow.
I have 2 children, Ava and Daisy, 14 and 9 respectively. Our family loves to spend days out in the countryside with our dog Herbert. Since moving to Devon 14 months ago we try to make the most of being outside and like to visit the beaches as much as we can rain or shine!
My partner and I share a love of gardening and we are starting to grow our own vegetables in our garden. I have recently bought a greenhouse and am awaiting its arrival. I cannot wait for it to arrive! I am hoping it will be full of plants by the summer!
