The Woodside Centre is a nursery located in Tiverton, Devon.

Woodside Nursery is managed by Early Years Alliance offering early years care and education for children aged three months to five years, alongside they are a recipient of the government funding for childcare for qualifying two-year-olds and all three and four-year-olds.

Their friendly and well-qualified nursery staff give children exciting and stimulating learning opportunities. Within a safe, friendly and fun environment, including indoor and outdoor play areas, children are supported by qualified staff in developing a wide range of skills and interests. Each child is supported by a key person who understands their individual needs and offers special support to them.

The Baby Room, with the team's nurturing natures, have created a calm area for the babies to play and explore in. The small area also means the babies get space to have one-to-one time with their key person, babies individual routines are followed.

The Toddler Room provides a stimulating, fun learning environment for the children. Children have the opportunity to explore the environment through creative and imaginative play and have opportunities to work in small groups with their key person, to extend personal, social and emotional skills, enabling them to develop independence and a 'have a go' attitude.

the Pre-School Room recognises that children need to be in a secure environment to grow and learn. Before they focus on getting the children school ready, the team develop relationships, seeking to understand how they learn and what inspires them. Within this area, the children’s learning is extended through a range of resources and activities. It focuses on letters and sounds as well as numeracy and independence. The ethos of learning through play is continued within the pre-school room and activities are targeted at children’s interests.

My one-year-old daughter has only been attending Woodside Nursery for a short amount of time but has settled so well. In the short amount of time, I can already see the positive relationships she has formed with every member of staff due to their kind, positive natures that also, put me at ease when
entrusting my daughter with them. She has made so much progress in the time she’s been there, which we noticed after the first week. Her communication skills have improved so much, all thanks to the great work going on at Woodside. The app used is amazing, easy to use and communicate with nursery along with seeing updates of my daughter's daily activities- lovely to see! I trust them implicitly and know I made the best choice by choosing Woodside. There are no faults.

My son has been at Woodside for six months now, and I couldn’t have chosen a better nursery. The facilities are brilliant, the staff are so lovely, and the vibe is just amazing. My son has a great bond with his key worker, and he absolutely adores going to nursery, he would be there 24/7 if he could,
it’s all he talks about.

My daughter loves this place. She adores the staff who are so caring and go beyond what is required. She has been going here for over a year and her confidence has grown, as has her speech. I recommend this nursery wholeheartedly.

It is a fantastic nursery for my daughter, the staff of the nursery are so welcoming, and communicate with you in what your child is doing even if they are not your child's key worker.
My daughter loves coming into nursery and says that her key worker is her best friend.
Even when we walk past she
wants to go in even if it is a day she is not in.

Woodside has helped my daughters development in amazing ways. She enjoys her time there. I appreciate how much I get updated with my daughter during her day on the app used by the nursery. The staff are all so lovely and welcoming. I feel 110% confident my daughter is looked after excellently whilst
in their care. I have already recommended to two friends who now have children attending.

I am so glad I chose Woodside for my daughter. I was very nervous about leaving her with anyone as she had only ever been with me or her nana. The staff have been absolutely amazing, and she has settled in like it's a second home. She always comes home full of stories of her day and even teaches me
new nursery rhymes. She adores all the staff, even tells people that her key worker is her best friend. She's only been there for two months, and already the confidence she has gained from Woodside is incredible.
The nursery is set out so wonderfully, and they change up the different areas often to give the kids a huge range of experience with all sorts of different things also, the outdoor area is beautifully set out too, full of fun and educational activities.
The staff are always helpful and informative, and the app is great and really lovely to be able to share your child's progress with family members.
I couldn't recommend Woodside highly enough!

Our daughter joined the baby room at 9 months. Prior to her settle sessions, she was very anxious around strangers even with regular socialising and playgroups, and I was equally worried about returning to work in case she didn't settle. Her key workers were so so good with helping her settle well and
getting over he anxieties. If there's anything that you think will help they take in onboard and it feels like leaving her with family. She cried the first time I left her, but after a few sessions, she doesn't even look back.

She loves nursery and is learning so much. I love the updates and photos and feel really well communicated with. Woodside seems to have a great ethos from the top down. I often see the nursery manager getting stuck in and is obviously well involved with all of the children, the admin team are always polite and helpful and even after only a few weeks all of the team have got to know our daughter and helped make it a lovely environment.

Would 100% recommend.

I cannot recommend Woodside highly enough. We are delighted with the care and attention they provide for our son and his peers. The staff are kind and diligent and create an amazing programme of activities. Our son has thrived in this environment and we believe it has helped enormously with all manner

This nursery has been fantastic since the moment we enquired. The staff and management are wonderful - always smiling, always keeping us regularly updated - our daughter has settled in very quickly and has made strong bonds with staff.

The price is very reasonable and the food variety is great (and

healthy).

We love the outdoor space and how creative the children can be.

I want to stress again how amazing we feel the staff are - A*

My 16-month-old daughter absolutely loves nursery and the staff at The Woodside Centre so much! She gets very excited when she sees her keyworker and the other staff members. All the staff are super lovely and approachable. My daughter is vegetarian and has a dairy intolerance and the staff are very
accommodating in regards to food times and offering yummy meals and extras so my daughter feels included. The staff provide lots of fun and exciting activities to help my daughter's learning and development. She has come on in leaps and bounds since starting 7 months ago.

Both my boys go to Woodside and have done since they were six months old. One is in the Baby Room and the eldest has now moved up to Preschool. They are thriving in the caring, creative and fun atmosphere at Woodside which looks after each child as an individual, providing empathetic care whilst encouraging
them to try new things and spread their wings. Over the last two and a half years my boys have struggled against many challenges. It is testament to the care provided at Woodside that it has helped provide the stability they have needed and they love going.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.563)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.563) out of 10 for The Woodside Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.979 for The Woodside Centre is calculated as follows: ( (94 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.979

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.584 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Woodside Centre is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 number of registered child places is 10.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.784

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Jo

Job Title: Assistant Manager

I am Jo, and I have been working at Woodside Nursery for five years, starting as a Nursery Worker then Senior Room Lead and now Assistant Manager with SENCO responsibilities.

My first experience in a nursery was when I trained in the Montessori method of nursery teaching. Before completion I had my first daughter and for work reasons moved to Italy. In Italy I worked as a language teacher, teaching five to eleven year olds.

After eight years living in Italy, we, five children and I returned to England and I completed a Level 3 in Early Years and Childcare. Five years later on completion of an initial teacher training course, I taught Music and Drama in secondary school for almost nine years. Caring for the elderly, for a while bought me to Woodside when I visited with a parent and liked it so much, I now work here.

My life’s experiences with children of all ages, has helped me to nurture and teach children using my strengths. I also use a lot of musically inspired activities, teaching the children mathematics and literacy using their favourite songs and playing instruments. As an artist, I fill the craft table with a variety of ideas enabling the children to be creative.

Each month, I like to introduce new subjects and books that match the activities as books and reading are vital to a child’s development. I also include activities in the garden and tell the children all about growing vegetables and show them insects that live under logs of wood.

I have worked with parents through the development of their children and enjoy supporting any special needs. I support other nursery workers by suggesting ways of learning or creating exciting activities to help our children develop and grow.

Job Title: Nursery Chef

I have worked here at Woodside for just over 6 years, and I have 2 roles within the nursery. My main role is as a nursery Chef Whereby I plan and produce health, well balanced and nutritious meals catering for all allergies that need to be taken into account.

When Ofsted inspected in December 2022, they observed that my meals were homemade and wholesome, and the Food Standards Agency agreed in January 2023 by awarding me another 5 star rating!

My other role is a Flexi Worker so that I can work on the floor with the children whatever age as I am qualified to Level 3 with a Diploma in PreSchool Practice.

When I am not working, I love exploring the beautiful southwest beaches and going for walks among nature in the woods and on the moors. But spending time with my lovely family is the thing I love doing the most.

Hello, I’m Jessica! I started at Woodside nursery as the 2-3 lead in January 2023 after working as toddler room lead in an Exeter nursery for the last 4 years although I spent 9 months of this time on maternity leave after having my first child, on Christmas Day 2021! I have recently moved to Tiverton with my daughter and partner after living in Sidmouth all my life! In my spare time I am enjoying exploring the local areas around Tiverton and getting to know my new home town. I also enjoy going for runs in the evening to recharge and I am currently working on the couch to 5k with the ambition of running a race at the end of the year! When I’m not at work or running around Tiverton I enjoy switching my brain off by baking yummy cakes or doing a paint by numbers! I trained in level 3 childcare with Exeter College which bought lots of opportunities to gain work experience with 0-7 year olds and I’ve worked with children ever since. Working with children brings me so much joy and truly is my passion in life, there is nothing better than seeing the smiling innocent faces and watching the next generation grow! At work I love reading stories and getting messy in the sensory tray! At work my colleagues would probably say I can be quiet at times, reliable and professional but my friends and family would say I’m a bit crazy.

I’m Adelaide and I am the Nursery Manager at Woodside. I’ve been at Woodside for a year now and love it here. It is a fabulous nursery with a great space for children to play and learn. It is such a warm and friendly environment to work in and the staff are lovely. I am excited to see what the future holds here since we had our Ofsted inspection in December 2022 where we received a Good rating which we are all delighted with.
I have worked in childcare for the last 15 years. I have worked with all ages, from Early Years to age eleven. I love all ages but my real passion is the Early Years. I am fascinated by how different the children’s personalities are and how they develop and grow.
I have 2 children, Ava and Daisy, 14 and 9 respectively. Our family loves to spend days out in the countryside with our dog Herbert. Since moving to Devon 14 months ago we try to make the most of being outside and like to visit the beaches as much as we can rain or shine!
My partner and I share a love of gardening and we are starting to grow our own vegetables in our garden. I have recently bought a greenhouse and am awaiting its arrival. I cannot wait for it to arrive! I am hoping it will be full of plants by the summer!
