I have been using Woodside since 2009 and currently have my second child there. It is a lovely nursery in a fabulous setting with a large open feel to it. The staff are all extremely friendly and welcoming. Both of my children have loved the staff there and I have never had a complaint. I have always
felt my children are safe and secure in the setting and that they have experienced many wonderful times there. They have also received great support when needed. Overall a great nursery which I would highly recommend.

Our daughter absolutely loves going to Woodside nursery. They do so many activities and messy play and sing/read stories all the time. She is learning so much without even realising it. The staff are great. They always have time to talk and do an amazing job.

My son loves Woodside, the teachers are brilliant with him and myself and always there to help and talk about my sons day. And my son has come on so much thanks to their support and help and would recommend it to any friends or family.

Very welcoming and supportive environment. Every member of staff knows my son and how to settle him at drop off time. He has enjoyed every single session. My child is encouraged in everything he does and is not pushed to do activities he does not want to do.

As a mum of twins I was a little concerned about putting them into nursery at 2 1/2 years old, but having been advised by her paediatrician that my daughter would possibly benefit from the experience as she has delayed development issues we decided to give it a try. Woodside has been very supportive
from the start. She only attends a half-day session but she is treated exactly the same. She has grown in confidence and knowledge through Woodside and loves it.

My son has been at Woodside for 18 months and he loves it. The staff are all wonderful and friendly as well as professional. The facilities are great with different areas inside as well as a good sized outdoor play area. The activities they do are fun and educational and they also do good physical activities
such as yoga as well as dancing and balancing activities. I've always been impressed with how thorough the development records are for each child. I would recommend Woodside highly to anyone looking for a nursery or pre-school.

My son loves going to nursery and has lots of exciting things to tell me when I collect him at the end of the day. There are always new activities happening that are fun and creative and provide me with a talking point on are journey home. They are doing a fantastic job at getting my son school ready
and easing any worries I may have at the next step in his learning journey.
Overall all the staff are doing a fantastic job and have a very important role in my son's life which I'm truly grateful for.

My son is currently in the baby room and very much enjoys the activities that are very varied, well planned and supporting the early years learning. The staff are warm and friendly, communication is excellent, as is safeguarding. We recently attended a parents evening (November) which enabled us to
see some of the resources in other settings and we were particularly impressed with the sense facility. I would have no hesitation in recommending Woodside to friends.

Woodside is great. The staff are helpful, understanding and supporting. It's clean and tidy and safe. When you apply you get the chance to look around, talk to staff, ask anything and try to get the days/hours you need :) I can't wait to see my little girl develop more. Highly recommend.

My child has a fantastic time at Woodside and enjoys attending. He takes part in a wide variety of activities, both inside and outside and is given plenty of stimulating experiences. The staff are all extremely friendly caring and approachable. They genuinely know my son and I'm looking forward to his

My son has been coming to Woodside full time since 2012 and has really flourished under the care of the staff there. He has many opportunities to do different activities and has formed strong bonds with the staff and has made lots of friends. He is continuing to make great progress and enjoys coming
to nursery every day.

My daughter is due to start soon and I have no hesitation or doubt about her coming to Woodside - I know she will be extremely well looked after.

Thank you all

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.563)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.563) out of 10 for The Woodside Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.979 for The Woodside Centre is calculated as follows: ( (94 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.979

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.584 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Woodside Centre is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 number of registered child places is 10.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.784

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Assistant Manager

I am Jo, and I have been working at Woodside Nursery for five years, starting as a Nursery Worker then Senior Room Lead and now Assistant Manager with SENCO responsibilities.

My first experience in a nursery was when I trained in the Montessori method of nursery teaching. Before completion I had my first daughter and for work reasons moved to Italy. In Italy I worked as a language teacher, teaching five to eleven year olds.

After eight years living in Italy, we, five children and I returned to England and I completed a Level 3 in Early Years and Childcare. Five years later on completion of an initial teacher training course, I taught Music and Drama in secondary school for almost nine years. Caring for the elderly, for a while bought me to Woodside when I visited with a parent and liked it so much, I now work here.

My life’s experiences with children of all ages, has helped me to nurture and teach children using my strengths. I also use a lot of musically inspired activities, teaching the children mathematics and literacy using their favourite songs and playing instruments. As an artist, I fill the craft table with a variety of ideas enabling the children to be creative.

Each month, I like to introduce new subjects and books that match the activities as books and reading are vital to a child’s development. I also include activities in the garden and tell the children all about growing vegetables and show them insects that live under logs of wood.

I have worked with parents through the development of their children and enjoy supporting any special needs. I support other nursery workers by suggesting ways of learning or creating exciting activities to help our children develop and grow.

Job Title: Nursery Chef

I have worked here at Woodside for just over 6 years, and I have 2 roles within the nursery. My main role is as a nursery Chef Whereby I plan and produce health, well balanced and nutritious meals catering for all allergies that need to be taken into account.

When Ofsted inspected in December 2022, they observed that my meals were homemade and wholesome, and the Food Standards Agency agreed in January 2023 by awarding me another 5 star rating!

My other role is a Flexi Worker so that I can work on the floor with the children whatever age as I am qualified to Level 3 with a Diploma in PreSchool Practice.

When I am not working, I love exploring the beautiful southwest beaches and going for walks among nature in the woods and on the moors. But spending time with my lovely family is the thing I love doing the most.

Hello, I’m Jessica! I started at Woodside nursery as the 2-3 lead in January 2023 after working as toddler room lead in an Exeter nursery for the last 4 years although I spent 9 months of this time on maternity leave after having my first child, on Christmas Day 2021! I have recently moved to Tiverton with my daughter and partner after living in Sidmouth all my life! In my spare time I am enjoying exploring the local areas around Tiverton and getting to know my new home town. I also enjoy going for runs in the evening to recharge and I am currently working on the couch to 5k with the ambition of running a race at the end of the year! When I’m not at work or running around Tiverton I enjoy switching my brain off by baking yummy cakes or doing a paint by numbers! I trained in level 3 childcare with Exeter College which bought lots of opportunities to gain work experience with 0-7 year olds and I’ve worked with children ever since. Working with children brings me so much joy and truly is my passion in life, there is nothing better than seeing the smiling innocent faces and watching the next generation grow! At work I love reading stories and getting messy in the sensory tray! At work my colleagues would probably say I can be quiet at times, reliable and professional but my friends and family would say I’m a bit crazy.

I’m Adelaide and I am the Nursery Manager at Woodside. I’ve been at Woodside for a year now and love it here. It is a fabulous nursery with a great space for children to play and learn. It is such a warm and friendly environment to work in and the staff are lovely. I am excited to see what the future holds here since we had our Ofsted inspection in December 2022 where we received a Good rating which we are all delighted with.
I have worked in childcare for the last 15 years. I have worked with all ages, from Early Years to age eleven. I love all ages but my real passion is the Early Years. I am fascinated by how different the children’s personalities are and how they develop and grow.
I have 2 children, Ava and Daisy, 14 and 9 respectively. Our family loves to spend days out in the countryside with our dog Herbert. Since moving to Devon 14 months ago we try to make the most of being outside and like to visit the beaches as much as we can rain or shine!
My partner and I share a love of gardening and we are starting to grow our own vegetables in our garden. I have recently bought a greenhouse and am awaiting its arrival. I cannot wait for it to arrive! I am hoping it will be full of plants by the summer!
