Nestled within a charming rural community near Lechlade, The Old Station Nursery Filkins offers exceptional childcare services. Housed in the former village school, the nursery has warm and welcoming rooms designed to support children’s development at every stage. The nursery offers exceptional care, enriched by unique learning opportunities for your child. One such experience is child-friendly cooking classes, helping to equip children with valuable skills and deeper knowledge of the cooking process.

From April 2025, The Old Station Nursery Filkins extended its provision to introduce a brand-new 9-place baby room, providing a cosy and nurturing environment for young learners. From the age of two, children can join the 2–4-year-old’s room, where age-appropriate resources and activities tailored to their interests are provided. As children progress, they move to the Pre-School room, where they can learn and play in a safe and nurturing environment. The team emphasises child-led activities whenever possible while also providing structured sessions to help children develop. Additionally, weekly French lessons and preparation for school are included in the Pre-School curriculum.

Outdoor play and exploration are at the heart of the ethos at the nursery, with weekly Forest School sessions for the children to immerse themselves in the natural world. Each child can explore and engage in a mud kitchen, play in dens, and care for the different animals, such as chickens and guinea pigs.

The qualified and dedicated team is passionate about providing high-quality care for all children at the nursery, which is reflected in the Millie's Mark award, recognising the team’s commitment to paediatric first aid.

The Filkins Nursery is a fantastic place for children. They have a spacious play area and a dedicated forest school, which my boys absolutely love. They enjoy sharing stories with me about their day and all the activities they do with their friends. My boys have grown and progressed significantly here,
thanks to the amazing teachers who work tirelessly to create a safe and nurturing environment. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the teachers who continue to care for my boys.

This nursery has been absolutely brilliant! Our child loves it and all the staff. He adores his key person which is lovely to see. The team has been great, flexible, caring and ready to support however they can. The leadership is great, arranging necessary provisions for our child to move on to school
and arranging meetings for us to follow our child's progress. We are so very grateful for the hard work that you do! The kindness and the humanity that you've shown us is really touching!

The Filkins Nursery has been nothing but a pleasure and joy for our son. He is always excited about going and loves spending time there. For us, it's been a thrill to see how he has grown and developed, with the reassuring knowledge that he has been well looked after and cared for. The staff are very
friendly and caring, they have the children's best interests at heart. The nursery has an excellent range of equipment, activities, and facilities for the children, there is always something new and exciting to keep the children engaged while ensuring the focus is always around play. It's very reassuring to see whenever I drop off or collect my son that all I see are happy, engaged children having a lot of fun.

This is a wonderful nursery, my son is really happy here. He enjoys all the activities he takes part in and always has lots of stories to tell me about his day! The staff are brilliant and he has such a lovely bond with them, this really helped him settle in when he first started. Communication is brilliant
- there's always time to have a chat with a member of staff at the end of the day and the staff are quick to respond if we have any queries via email. The nursery is such a warm and kind environment and we couldn't be happier with the care he receives, and all the fun he has!

Such caring and fun staff who take great care in learning the child as an individual and their interests. Our daughter loves her days there. My son has been going here for six months and I can honestly say, it is a fantastic nursery! The staff are brilliant and are so attentive to the children's needs. They are always thinking outside the box and organising events and visits for the children.

My boys are very happy about this nursery. The staff in the 2-3y room are super, all are wonderful, loving, caring and professional women. The atmosphere is welcoming, stimulating to learn and make friends. My children are excited and involved in the activities that are organized every day. The management,
which I found not decisive on essential points, and the App need improvements. The kids spend a long time indoors when it's hot also due to a lack of shelter from the sun. I asked why there were no parasols outside for children and staff on the hottest days, I was told something new would be bought. Two weeks later, I requested an update, having not seen any new parasols/gazebos, and I was mistaken for someone who dictated what to do. I felt misunderstood and misjudged. Anyway, no solution has been found so far. The information about children's nutrition is insufficient and confusing. The snack menu and food should be present daily on the app. Moreover, the app is too little updated and not very exhaustive.

Recently we have had multiple issues with the nursery, mainly due to a lack of communication. But also we don't seem to be told a lot about how our child is doing. The parent zone app is rarely updated as well. For the money that is paid for the nursery I do find that since the nursery manager has changed
the service that is being offered has altered massively, and unfortunately is not like the great service we used to receive.

Our child loves the Old Station Nursery, which is the main thing, he sometimes enquires at weekends if he can go to nursery today.
The nursery itself is a wonderful little place with good outdoor and indoor spaces for him to play and learn and small enough for him to know all of his little classmates.
The
staff are wonderful and keep the children entertained all day, and also teach the children a great deal, most days we get told about what our little boy has learned that day, and what he did.
It will be a sad day for him and us when he has to leave and move on to big school.

Filkins is a wonderful nursery. My son has been attending for 10 months and he has come on leaps and bounds with his confidence, speech and general social skills. The staff are so caring and nurturing and my son feels very secure and looked after there. The outdoor space is second to none which suits
him well too.
The communication between the nursery and parents is great and there is always a large range of activities on offer.

The nursery is fantastic! My daughter loves going, the updates we received are well constructed and give us a snapshot of her day. She loves her key worker and talks about her all the time at home, which to me shows the bond that she has created with her. The range of activities they do ranges from
numeracy and literacy to Forest school. I can only recommend the nursery highly as I think it is a great setting for a child to start their education.

Fabulous nursery with such compassionate, reactive and knowledgable staff. Our little one has come on leaps and bounds since attending Filkins, especially in their confidence and language skills. Collecting my little one is a joy as they are always so happy and eager to tell me all about their day.
We are also regularly updated with what they have been doing throughout the day, which we love, and it means we can continue with activities or learning ideas at home too.

Filkins Nursery is a truly wonderful environment. Both of our children have attended the nursery and have enjoyed it immensely. I have been blown away by the Filkins nursery. On day 4, my son was closing the nursery door in my face waving to me through the window whilst being held in his key worker's arms. The team have made him feel so secure and they have worked out how he ticks. The updates are great, so much effort is put
into their days at the nursery. Thank you all so much!

We wanted to change the days our granddaughter was at nursery. So asked the manager for information. It didn't take long for her to get back in touch with a solution that was a benefit to all, especially our granddaughter. I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff at the nursery. The love and care
they show our granddaughter is beyond anything we imagined. It is going to be a wrench for her to leave this year, but I will say without a doubt, that they have done plenty to shape the young lady she is growing into. Thank you, Filkins.

Hello, I'm Katie and I'm the Nursery Manager here at The Old Station Nursery Bampton. I have a Foundation Degree in Early Years and am also qualified Level 2 in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health, Designated Safeguarding Lead and First Aid Trained.


This outstanding nursery prepares all children for the move to school, but does so with a large dose of love and some truly inspirational staff. We offer lots of different experiences for the children and place a large importance on outdoor play and learning, making great use of the community around us.
