Nestled within a charming rural community near Lechlade, The Old Station Nursery Filkins offers exceptional childcare services. Housed in the former village school, the nursery has warm and welcoming rooms designed to support children’s development at every stage. The nursery offers exceptional care, enriched by unique learning opportunities for your child. One such experience is child-friendly cooking classes, helping to equip children with valuable skills and deeper knowledge of the cooking process.

From April 2025, The Old Station Nursery Filkins extended its provision to introduce a brand-new 9-place baby room, providing a cosy and nurturing environment for young learners. From the age of two, children can join the 2–4-year-old’s room, where age-appropriate resources and activities tailored to their interests are provided. As children progress, they move to the Pre-School room, where they can learn and play in a safe and nurturing environment. The team emphasises child-led activities whenever possible while also providing structured sessions to help children develop. Additionally, weekly French lessons and preparation for school are included in the Pre-School curriculum.

Outdoor play and exploration are at the heart of the ethos at the nursery, with weekly Forest School sessions for the children to immerse themselves in the natural world. Each child can explore and engage in a mud kitchen, play in dens, and care for the different animals, such as chickens and guinea pigs.

The qualified and dedicated team is passionate about providing high-quality care for all children at the nursery, which is reflected in the Millie's Mark award, recognising the team’s commitment to paediatric first aid.

My daughter has been coming to this nursery for just over 1 year and I absolutely love the place. All staff are so caring and educational needs are clearly met. The privacy setting in the village is beautiful and so secure. Parents are invited to so many activities on at the nursery and the Tapestry
is an amazing way for myself and family to get an insight as to my daughters daily/weekly activities and achievements. I absolutely love the place.

My son is now in his second and final year at Filkins and although he is looking forward to 'big school', he is already concerned about leaving his teachers behind. There is only one aspect of nursery that he doesn't look forward to and that is 'rest time' which is something that I have asked that the
teachers enforce.


He loves that variety of activities and has even learned to sit still! The staff are excellent and take great care of all of the children in their charge. We have been most fortunate to find such a wonderful nursery and will be sad this summer to leave.

A warm, welcoming nursery that pays attention to the individual needs of each child and encourages learning through fun and wide-ranging activities. Forest school walks to nearby woods, themed activities and story time are my son's favourites! Parents receive a friendly welcome when dropping off or
collecting, and all staff take interest in the children. The only small downside is a lack of a kitchen to provide hot food.

I am very happy with how well my son has adapted into Filkins Nursery. This is due to the outstanding work and effort the staff have put into him to allow him the time to settle in. He has grown and developed so many new skills in the short time he has been attending nursery. The staff are friendly
and keep us well informed of any progress or areas they see improvement could be made with the children's development. I would highly recommend the nursery to friends and family, and when my daughter is old enough, I would like her to start her learning journey at Filkins Nursery.

Our daughter started at Filkins nursery just after her 2nd birthday and started school this September. I have posted reviews before praising the exceptional care, nurturing and teaching, tailored to each individual child, which gradually brought her out of her shell and gave her such a brilliant start.
We were concerned that her lack of social confidence would make starting school a painful process, but the staff work so carefully with the children to prepare them that this hasn't been an issue. Social preparation for school seems gently stepped up in the summer term, and teachers from the local schools visit to see both parents and children. I have just had our "first month in" meeting with her class teacher, and was astounded to hear she now regularly leads playtime! The teacher was full of praise for how well Filkins had prepared her for school, and the quality of its handover. She can't wait to go back as a 'big girl' for half term holiday club.

This is an outstanding nursery. We used Filkins holiday care for a week in July 2016. We were in the UK holidaying and visiting family and hoped to find some suitable daycare for our 4 year old daughter so we could explore the area. We couldn't have had a warmer welcome. The staff are exceptional...all
of them. Our daughter had an amazing week, playing with kids, exploring the garden, playing with chickens, quail, guinea pigs, decorating pebbles, making picture frames and having a ball. She didn't want to leave a the end of the day. Filkins doesn't fully cater for the kids meals, they provide snacks and afternoon tea (currently), so I provided a packed lunch. They were very cautious about her allergy to peanuts and had all the right safeguards in place. I cant recommend this nursery enough and if we come back next year would seriously entertain spending time in the area again just so we could make use of the holiday care provided by the Manager and her team.

Both my children have attended Filkins Nursery, my youngest will be leaving this month(July). Over the last 4 years the care and attention my children have received has been outstanding. Every time they enter the nursery they are greeted with a lovely warm smile. They have consistently received excellent
care and love from every single staff member. The setting is lovely with fantastic learning equipment, from the Smga table to Forest school outside. They enjoy a wide range of learning equipment and variety of play. I would recommend this nursery.

Our Daughter knew from her first visit that Filkins was the nursery for her. She then let her parents know accordingly
The main word to describe her time there is "Magical". She has enjoyed every session and is full of news every time we pick her up. We have asked her what her favourite things have
been. She said, The egg/chick, gardening, French lessons and obviously the big school trip to a forest school. She came home from the trip, smiling, happy, tired and very muddy. Who could ask for more.
From a parents point of view we cannot express our gratitude for all that Filkins have done. We have felt confident that she has been in a loving, safe, secure and nurturing environment. An environment in which she has flourished and grown. We have been extremely happy with her educational and emotional development. The Nursery staff have embraced her as an individual with all her varying interests.
We cannot recommend this nursery enough, it is a truly wonderful place.

Filkins nursery is the best place ever, the staff are all friendly and they are polite and they got a smile on there face when they meet you at the door in the mornings. My son is always happy goes in smiling and comes home smiling. I recommend the nursery to my friends. My son has been there since
he was 2 years old and he is 4 years old now. and they helped him so much I see the difference in him he so much happy, he gets on well with all the teachers. It is a lovely place, and all the activities they do at the school all enjoyable, and I have already booked my youngest son to go there when he is two. The manger of the nursery is the best manger. She keeps update on emails what activities that are coming up eg sports day,

My son has been at the nursery since 2012 when he turned 2yrs old. The experienced established team are incredible, the activities imaginative and varied. There is a wonderful outdoor playground, a Forrest school area, chickens, snug, and indoors two rooms with a variety of toys, books, IT and role
play activities. The use of the electronic learning journal catalogues my sons development and I love reading the updates and seeing the photos/videos. There are extra activities such as tattybumpkin yoga and music. My son has flourished in the nursery, particularly in terms of social development and language, preparing him for school. I would recommend this nursery, it is wonderful, well managed and nurturing. My only constructive point - as the nursery is popular, if you need 'flexible childcare' you may need somewhere else. They always try to accommodate me for extra sessions or holiday clubs when required, but it's not always possible - but I'm still so glad he's at the nursery!

My daughter started at the nursery in September 2015. She has already come on leaps and bounds in terms of speech. The nursery offer a lot of activities. They are a little limited regarding indoor space but use the areas very inventively and also do a lot outside play which is great. They have a forest

I was really impressed when I went for a visit with my daughters, the Manager was very informative and showed me around the nursery. I always look for children's work on the walls and the input from the children was so impressive ie: writing from the pre school children and art work up, there is an
area for them to explore materials and get creative which for me is very important. I am also very happy with the staff, they are always smiling and chatty when we arrive in the morning and when we pick up which is comforting as a parent as sometimes as a mother you can feel anxious doing the drop off. My daughter loves going to Filkins she is smiling from ear to ear and her confidence has really grown. the pre-school supervisor in particular is wonderful she knows what she likes to do and what she's interested in. The tapestry app is brilliant, there's no wondering how your child is doing because it's there to see. I think is really great I know how well she's doing every week. The communication to parents is amazing we have a very happy daughter and that is just fantastic for my husband and I - thank you to everybody!

Hello, I'm Katie and I'm the Nursery Manager here at The Old Station Nursery Bampton. I have a Foundation Degree in Early Years and am also qualified Level 2 in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health, Designated Safeguarding Lead and First Aid Trained.


This outstanding nursery prepares all children for the move to school, but does so with a large dose of love and some truly inspirational staff. We offer lots of different experiences for the children and place a large importance on outdoor play and learning, making great use of the community around us.
