Kindred Winterbourne Earls Day Nursery and Pre-School was awarded 'Good' in its latest Ofsted inspection (May 2022).

The nursery and pre-school is a warm and welcoming environment where the staff are passionate about the mission to create inspiring worlds full of awe and wonder for little ones to grow and thrive in. By creating days filled with unique moments and opportunities, Kindred are able to truly enrich a child’s development during 0-5 years.

Not only that but Kindred also personally understands what it is to be a parent during this magical time and creates meaningful relationships with every parent. Parents will never miss an opportunity to share in the joy of every child’s developmental and learning moments.

The nursery is located in the heart of Winterbourne Earls village, next to the church. Staff offer exceptional childcare and early years education to children aged from 3 months up to 5 years. They are open from 7:45 am to 6:00 pm.

Staff are passionate about loose parts play and follow a Reggio-inspired approach to learning and development. They are also very proud of their exceptionally large outdoor space and forest garden.

My son really enjoys his days at Kindred Winterbourne Earls Day Nursery and Pre-School. The staff are always welcoming and friendly. Despite the app they use to update what has happened throughout the day, they always take the time at handover to verbally explain what's happened. They have been fantastic
during this current pandemic and policies and procedures have meant that I have always felt safe sending son in.

My son has been at Kindred Winterbourne Earls Day Nursery and Pre-School for seven months, since he was eleven months old. Though apprehensive about our first born starting nursery in the middle of a pandemic, we shouldn’t have been worried. From day one he has loved his time in the nest. All of the
staff have been brilliant, so caring and we really feel that they know him so well. We are delighted with the nutritious, balanced menu and he eats far more at nursery than he does at home with me! We love reading the daily updates on the app about what he has been up to and the range of activities on offer is excellent. Staff have been really accommodating with his nap routine and the fact he wears cloth nappies, which was important to us. Any queries have been addressed promptly and effectively. We wholeheartedly recommend this nursery.

My daughter started this nursery about a month ago, she settled in immediately and absolutely loves her sessions at the nursery and asks to go every day. There is an app that is used to communicate between staff and parents and it is fantastic, every session I can see what my daughter has been doing
including what she's been eating and even how much she has eaten. We are so impressed by every aspect of the nursery and would highly recommend it to everyone.

My son has loved the nursery since he started, all the staff are so caring and compassionate especially when he was first settling. The Famly app is amazing keeping me up to day with what he has done and eaten throughout the day. The staff give a wonderful handover and show they really know my son and
what he enjoys.
I feel at ease leaving him in the mornings as he runs in to see his friends that he is in good hands. Even making sure his dietary requirements are all catered for.
Since coming back after the lockdown he has come leaps and bounds and always comes home with a smile on his face wanting to share everything he has done at nursery. I can’t thank the girls enough for taking care of him, he always talks about them at home and asks when he can go see them again.

We have been overwhelmingly impressed with everything about Kindred Winterbourne Earls! From the moment we met the staff on our tour, we knew this was the right place for our daughter. The amount of information we receive on the app is incredible and the communication is fantastic. All of the staff
are so passionate about what they do and are so friendly and approachable; it's clear they care so much about all of the children. The food menu looks delicious and is always enjoyed; the activities are also brilliant and we've loved receiving artwork home. Our little girl has settled so well, so quickly, and there are always lots of smiles all round at drop off and pick up! We honestly couldn't ask for anything more from a nursery setting- highly recommend.

Outstanding! My little one absolutely adores coming to the setting. The staff are so kind, and helpful; it’s been a long time since I’ve felt able to drop him off somewhere and not worry about his mood when he gets home. My two boys (3 and 1) have settled into Kindred Winterbourne extremely well. The eldest had a tough year with a new brother, new house and new nursery to deal with, but the staff at the nursery helped turn around his behaviour when he was unsettled and they’re both now really happy there. We get a great
handover at the end of the day, and both boys eat really well so are rarely hungry when they come home. They joined during the pandemic lockdown and it’s clear all the staff are doing as much as they can to make the best of a difficult situation.

As any mother or father, we wanted the very best for our son and Winterbourne Kindred was at the top of the list.
I knew it was right the moment I stepped in when my son was 14-months-old.
The communication is without fault, I love seeing what he’s up to via the app, especially when I’m at work
and missing him. The food looks incredible, and I’m so happy with the balanced diet and care my son receives while he’s with you. He talks about his friends and keyworkers daily and loves you all.
I cannot praise you enough, especially throughout the pandemic. I know my son is safe and happy, and I wouldn’t send him anywhere else.

My daughter has had such a wonderful experience at Kindred Winterbourne Earls! From day 1 the staff have been absolutely brilliant and that is clear from how happy she is at the end of each day! She has developed so much and learns so many new things whilst spending time at the nursery- we always look
forward to hearing which new nursery rhyme is her favourite now.
We are always kept updated on her routine/food/nappy changes/activities via the famly app which is a great comfort. During a very difficult time for everyone, the nursery has also ensured the safety of all the children with their Covid measures and not once have we worried about our daughter attending nursery given the circumstances.
We are genuinely very sad to be leaving the nursery and must stress this is down to personal circumstances making the location no longer practical for us as a family.

Having recently relocated to Salisbury with my young family, finding a great nursery for my daughter was incredibly important to me and my partner. Kindred Winterbourne Earls have been so welcoming from our first visit around the nursery. All of the staff are friendly and are consistent with their communication.
Any queries I have are answered promptly and without making me feel like I’m bothering them.
The facilities and activities are great and my daughter absolutely loves it! I would highly recommend any family to consider Kindred as their nursery of choice.

After feeling very anxious about my little one starting nursery, especially after this year's current events, I couldn't have been left feeling happier after just the first settling session. All of the staff members made me feel at ease straight away, keeping everything as normal as possible and ensuring
my little one felt comfortable during his initial visits. He has settled in so well and I know this is down to the girls being as amazing as they are at what they do. We love the updates/pictures on famly and think the team use this well to communicate everything about his day.

Both our children go to this nursery. Our eldest has been there since he was 12-months-old and this year he will be off to school. Since kindred took over we have been very impressed with both communication and the general running of the nursery. They thankfully kept all the wonderful staff, who greet
us every morning with a smile and every afternoon with a lovely tale on what the kids have been up to. The kids adore the staff and can't wait to tell them all they have been up to. We feel very confident in the care they give and as the kids say their cuddles are good!
The menu is varied and the kids love it.
The return after lockdown was very smooth and the kids have been none the wiser, they just look forward to going in. We would definitely recommend this nursery. Thank you to all the staff.

Our little girl has been going since she was 9 months old and the care and attention that comes from the nursery for both child and parents has been wonderful. As a new mum, I was scared, over-prepared and a little frantic, but the team here were just wonderful from start to finish. She has loved every
minute of being here, even at weekends she’s asked to go, took it in her stride from day 1 and never looked back (literally!). She has been so happy to be with them all and during lockdown, missed each one of her group leaders. The team, both in the office and in the thick of the craziness are lovely, they will try everything they can to accommodate your needs and explain everything best they can if you’re ever worried about anything. 2020 has proven to be a really hard year for everyone, but we are so grateful for the steps they’ve put in place to keep our children safe. Continue the fantastic work. We will thoroughly miss you all.

Our children love the nursery and they are really happy when they go. We were worried about our youngest who started nursery recently but the staff there have been brilliant. Professional, dedicated and a nursery we would definitely recommend to any parent. The feedback and updates the staff provide

I discovered this nursery in 2015 when looking for a nursery closer to home. After my son completed his preschool year here and his little sister was born, I knew I'd want to bring her here when I returned to work part-time. I can honestly say that throughout the years I've brought my children here,
the staff have always remained welcoming and friendly and above all nurturing and professional. And during the last couple of weeks of changes due to social distancing, etc. I could not have felt more confident to bring my daughter back, who has been only too happy I might add. The staff here know the children well and really care. They clearly fill the children's days with varied happy learning and play. My children complete varied nutritional homecooked meals and I have a full report of everything they've enjoyed doing. A few special highlights have been forest school visitor, preschool Christmas nativity, preschool theatre group visiting.

The nursery is a lovely setting and feels very welcoming. My son came back from lockdown feeling a bit anxious about returning but was welcome back at the gate and was quickly went off happily. Having all information put on to the family app was really reassuring to know how he was doing throughout
the day. My son was very happy to have one of his old key workers in his bubble which made him feel comfortable. He seemed to have settled back into nursery quickly and is happy about being back.
Since starting nursery I have seen a huge difference in the development of my son, he has become confident and outgoing.

I have felt in the last year the overall care and communication is lacking from this nursery. I get a very loveless handover with basic information which always consists of playing outside or playing. There has been a high staff turnover causing my child to have 3 different key workers whilst in sky.
The policy with lunch means my child usually comes home hungry. I feel there isn’t very much effort in encouraging the children to eat or finding exciting ways of getting distracted children to try the meals provided.

Kindred Winterbourne Earls is a truly fantastic setting. My daughter absolutely loves coming here. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable, and they’ve made a huge effort to make her feel welcome. Every time I collect her I always receive very thorough feedback about her day, from what she’s eaten
to which activities she’s participated in. The office staff are also really efficient and are very quick to respond to emails, no matter how small the query. They have a huge variety of learning resources and the children spend a great deal of time outdoors. I genuinely believe my daughter couldn’t be happier at any other setting, and I highly recommend Winterbourne Earls - it’s brilliant!

Hello, my name is Laura Hopkins and I am the Manager at Kindred Winterbourne.


I started in this role in September 2024 after having progressed from being a deputy manager at one of our other Salisbury-based nurseries where I was in that role since 2018.


I began my career as a Private Nanny until I moved into nursery education. I hold a Diploma in Childcare and Education Level 3 and have experience in childcare since the early 2000s.

I have worked in childcare across a variety of ages from 3 months plus for nearly 13 years. I started my childcare career in 2010 at an outdoor nursery, where I completed my levels 2 and 3 in Early Years. This has given me some amazing experience and has helped me gain a wide range of knowledge which I have brought to Kindred.


I joined the Kindred family in 2018 as a room leader and have since worked my way up to Deputy Manager and nursery SENCO. My passion is respectful care, ensuring we follow a respectful and unhurried approach to the children's development and care, ensuring they are given the opportunities to flourish and develop into confident children ready for the next steps in their journey.
