Sixpenny Day Nursery is a purpose-built, fun and exhilarating nursery for children to learn through play.

Located in Devizes, the first Sixpenny Nursery was founded in 1989 in the village of Nursteed. Having now moved to a purpose-built setting at Roundway Hill Farm in 2012, the nursery specialises in outdoor learning, play and exercise, within its beautiful, countryside location. The nursery adopts a ‘Forest School’ learning approach, where children can develop their skills uniquely, whilst encouraging conversation about the environment and the importance of appreciating the planet.

The nursery offers exceptional care, enriched by unique learning opportunities for your child. One such experience is child-friendly cooking classes, helping to equip children with valuable skills and deeper knowledge of the cooking process.

Each room has free-flow access to the secure garden, which includes a variety of activities, such as an allotment, an outdoor mud kitchen, and sensory areas. The children are free to explore their surrounding nature, and with a special ‘undercover’ area, they can enjoy outdoor play in all weathers. There is also a farm area, where the children can feed and care for the animals, such as the nurseries very own pygmy goats.

Children are encouraged to take part in weekly music sessions, a variety of sports, cooking, and yoga, as well as participate in the nursery’s Forest School classes. These activities provide benefits for children such as increasing a child’s confidence and self-esteem through exploration, problem solving, and being encouraged to learn how to assess and take appropriate risks depending on their environment.

With the location of the countryside, the nursery is bright and airy, with plenty to keep all the children engaged, and active. There is also lots of opportunities to be outside in the fresh air, for the children to run, play, climb and cycle.

My daughter recently started to attend this nursery, and since she started, the staff have been absolutely amazing. The nursery is beautiful and perfect for any child that might love nature and the outdoors. My daughter adored the outside, and this nursery really encourages that. She always comes home
bright and happy after each day. The food options are great and promote a well-balanced diet and a good variety of different options. The classrooms are clean and warm, and everyone is extremely welcoming. I would highly recommend it.

My daughter absolutely loves going to Sixpenny Day Nursery. She is shy and can get overwhelmed with new experiences but she has been settled and happy there since day one and looks forward to going. The staff are kind, caring and supportive and I know she is being well cared for while I am at work.
She has formed lovely bonds with everyone who has looked after her in each room. They have excellent facilities and the outside spaces are very well equipped and maintained. My younger daughter will be starting there in a few weeks and I feel confident that she will be just as happy there as her big sister. All in all, a great nursery with a lovely atmosphere which I would recommend to others.

My son loves his days at Sixpenny. The staff are amazing, and we get great daily feedback; he has come on leaps and bounds since starting there three years ago.
The facilities, especially the outside space, are second to none, and the forest school is a wonderful addition to the nursery.

My child has been going to Sixpenny Nursery since he was ten months old; he is now nearly four. He started during Covid, and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff who have consistently been there over this time. It’s been lovely to have some consistency in my child’s care and sharing his progress
with the members of staff. There have been staff who have only been there for a short while, as I understand happens at many nurseries, but there are members who have been there for the long haul.
The variety of food has always been good; however, I know my child often has to ask for second helpings as he is a hungry one. He is always given more food when he asks.
The outside space that Sixpenny has is amazing. They have plenty of activities they can do in the garden; they also have a wooded area and fields to run around in. I love the fact that they are planting seeds at this time of year to help the children understand spring.

Sixpenny Day Nursery has been a place in our hearts since my little girl started in 2020.
Over three years, she has developed and flourished, and this is down to the dedicated staffing team throughout the building. All staff are welcoming and friendly when walking through the nursery to her room on
drop off and collection.
The outdoor space is just mind-blowing, and the children have so many learning opportunities in the outside environment.
My little girl is so excited to attend the forest school soon, and we are very lucky to have this life experience at the nursery. Keep up the hard work, Sixpenny!

I am constantly impressed by this nursery and the amazing staff. My daughter has the best possible care and education here. Her development increases every day, and she is encouraged to be strong and independent but also kind and considerate of other children. I am so glad my daughter attends this nursery,
and I am looking forward to two more of my girls coming up in October.

Both of my children enjoy attending Sixpenny and have both gone since 1 year old. The kids themselves seem to have a good time and always have lots to tell us about their day.
On quite a few occasions my daughter has been brought out with wet underwear/clothing so clearly hasn't been checked before
collection.
Previously room staff have given medical assumptions which were eventually proven to be incorrect but this was relayed to management at the time.
Myself and many other parents don't agree with the costings/charges since sixpenny was taken over. Sixpenny just doesn't have the same vibe that it once had.

Some lovely staff however individual child attention and support around their development is significantly lacking. One update a month is now received in individual child diary instead of one a day. And then it is a generic room update not specific to your child.
Children are routinely very dirty on
leaving which is expected - but very dirty face with mud in eyes etc is too far and happens regularly. Very high charges for consumables and extras but very little evidence of art, craft or other activities taking place. Very few structured activities it seems. Their separate finance team seem to manage accounts very badly. Incorrect information is often shared, confusing invoices with no explanation and threatening chasers are automatically sent despite payments made on the date they request. We have had children at Sixpenny for 7 years now and would sadly not recommend them following the new company taking over. There are some very caring staff but our overall impression is still very poor.

Sixpenny has been a wonderful nursery for both of my children who currently attend, the staff are loving, kind, fun and attentive and the management team at Sixpenny have been really helpful and accommodating.
It's a real shame that The Old Station Nursery Group, who have recently taken over, at Sixpenny
have not been the same. They have raised the costs to ridiculous levels including extra charges for term time attendance, charges for 7.30 to 8am starts and removing half-day attendance options. Whilst then reducing the portion sizes and daytime activities and not raising the staff wages in line with the increase in charges to the parents.
I can't fault the Sixpenny staff, they do a fantastic job but really dislike The Old Station Nursery Group. It's a shame because Sixpenny really was something so special before the takeover. Thankful to all the staff that are still making each day special for the children attending.

My daughter is so enthusiastic every time we pull into the car park at Sixpenny. She has been going there since she was five months old, and it is her home away from home. Her keyworker and all the other staff are always so enthusiastic and professional, but also the bit I didn't expect is that they
seem to genuinely love and be really interested in my child, for which I am so grateful. It's the best thing we have done to send her to Sixpenny.

My son has been at the nursery for eight months, since just before his first birthday. The staff in the baby room are always friendly and warm and made a huge effort to make sure he settled in well. Our key worker is brilliant and adores my son, is never too busy to stop and tell me all about his day

My child really enjoys coming into the nursery. The staff are always warm and welcoming. I have a good relationship with my child's key worker and have regular updates on his time throughout the nursery. It is a brilliant environment for children with plenty of educational activities and experiences.

Children have plenty of space outside. They are also given the opportunity to discover nature (eg plant vegetables, feed animals, walk in a 'forest', etc). Each week the activities relate to different themes, and so, children learn about the weather, space, dinosaurs, etc. Children bring back not only
lots of lovely drawings, paintings and collages but also cupcakes and biscuits. Staff are professional and caring and always happy to inform you about what children have done during the day, what they have eaten, how they were feeling, etc.

Sixpenny is a wonderful setting with vast outdoor spaces, which sets them above the rest. Both my children attend Sixpenny, and I couldn’t be more pleased with my chosen nursery. The staff throughout the building are instrumental in both my children's developments. I am always greeted with a smile and
warm welcome when dropping off and picking up my children. I enjoy hearing about the range of activities they get to take part in daily and love sharing their observations with other family members. The team at Sixpenny do a fantastic job daily.
