A great setting for all 3 of my children. A home from home environment where the caregivers are kind and caring whilst also meeting children's educational and developmental needs. My children attended here from 9 months old to holiday club age (8 years old).

A really good price compared to other

nurseries locally and a beautiful new garden with sensory area.

Please ignore reviews regarding racism. I've never experienced this and the nursery celebrate all ethnicities, backgrounds and diversities.

Such an amazing place for our children. Would recommend this nursery to everyone! Lovely staff who really care for the children. The nursery itself is so clean and tidy whilst also being engaging and fun! Thanks for looking after our family so well!

Hi to everyone here. I've had a very bad experience with the owner of The Annex. She's racist, rude and always treated black kids so different, my 3 years old daughter used to have her pram in that nursery after dropping her I've got college to go. Few times I've noticed when is raining other white
kid's pram are covered, only my daughter's pram is always left behind and wet. My daughter can't even sit. I told the staff to keep her pram safe so she won't get wet on this cold. That owner told me I have to bring back my daughter pram back home because she won't keep it in there while there's plenty of space. Can you imagine how heartless that owner is? And she even got her grandchildren there, went so angry and got the police involved. They took all the owner's nursery details, nursery address and that owner's name. I'm waiting for the police investigation. Very bad stuff in there rude and careless staff. If I could I'll remove my daughter straight away from those evil staff and the owner.

Reply from Joanne McNally, Owner/Manager at The Annex

Diversity, Inclusion & Equality are at the heart of everything we do & strive to achieve. We celebrate our 20th Anniversary this year, the Manger and staff have more than 40 years' experience in childcare. We have a waiting list for the Nursery that is longer than 12 months, this is through word of mouth and our great reputation, we never need to advertise. We are based in a diverse & deprived area of the City, our diverse staff team do their utmost to support our families and their children. Safeguarding is very important to us, there is only a small entrance for parents to enter the nursery and it is also a fire exit. To keep everyone safe this area cannot be blocked with pushchairs therefore we have limited space for the baby's pushchairs and pushchairs belonging to the nursery in the sheltered area. Unfortunately, not for preschooler's pushchairs. Unfortunately, I cannot comment further as I have informed the Police, and my legal team are currently dealing with this matter.

My son has been going to this nursery since September 2015..so only 3 weeks.
I would highly recommend this nursery to anybody I know. My son has severe speech problems and since the 3 weeks he's been here he has come on leaps and bounds. Everyday I collect him I am given paperwork to fill out about
what he likes/dislikes, when his birthday is and to find out more about my son so they can help him with his needs.
He is a little bit behind with the other children, but the staff are lovely and are gradually helping him too. What makes me feel more at ease is that I know the owner of the nursery and it is run by her and her daughters, which is nice.
If anybody wants a nice nursery..I highly recommend you choose The Anne, and they also cater for children with special needs too.
Lovely family run nursery xx

Current Review Score: 7.0 (7.000)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.0 (7.000) out of 10 for The Annex is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.7 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.667 for The Annex is calculated as follows: ( (23 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) + (1 Poors x 2) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 3.667

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.333 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Annex is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 number of registered child places is 9.6. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.208

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
