Footsteps Canwell Nursery & Pre-School is a beautiful 'home from home' nursery, rated Good by Ofsted (August 2022), and is full of character and charm.

The nursery offers a broad range of activities for children to explore and expand their natural curiosity and learn through play. Children are allowed to grow and develop at their own pace in the safe and stimulating environment.

As well as the thoughtfully planned inside areas, a large outdoor area is available for children of all ages to explore and experience the natural world, and Forest School is a key part of a child’s day at Footsteps.

We have been incredibly happy with Footsteps Canwell since our daughter started in 2020. The care she receives is excellent and communication between the nursery and home is regular and consistent. The staff make every effort to get to know all of the children, even those in different rooms. Our daughter
struggled at drop-off for a while and the staff went out of their way to establish a routine for her when she arrived to help settle her quickly. Our daughter has developed incredibly well and we are really pleased we chose to send her here. Her sister will be joining her very soon too!

Love the team in the baby room. Lots of great activities, regular updates and cater for all needs. Freshly made food and lots of great outdoor space to explore. The team seem very attentive and always gives great and detailed feedback each day.

My son joined in September 2022 as a rising 3 after quite a few big changes in our lives. He absolutely loves his new nursery and couldn’t have settled in better! He loves all the staff and talks about them all week. We are super happy with Footsteps and so glad we moved our son here.

First time any of my children have been in a nursery setting before, I previously used a Child Minder. I can honestly say this nursery is amazing, my child has settled in well and I'm so pleased. They do different things daily, and you can get updates throughout the day and get feedback. All the staff
are so lovely and caring. Would 100% recommend this nursery.

A really fantastic nursery setting. Our little girl is always happy and full of stories from her time at preschool. The staff are all caring professionals and communication with parents is great. We love seeing updates throughout the day.

I'm very pleased with the care my baby is receiving at Footsteps. The nursery nurses are wonderful and keep my baby engaged every day. There are lots of fabulous activities both indoor and outdoor and I receive updates and pictures daily so I know my baby is having the time of his life. He adores his
nursery nurses. He has come on far in his time at the nursery and this was the best decision for his development.

I am really happy with this nursery. My son has attended since he was 13 months old and is now 18 months old. The staff are very friendly, they do a variety of different activities with the children to entertain and educate them and spend a lot of time outside. They have noticed which activities my
child is particularly interested in and make an effort to engage him with his preferred activities. The atmosphere feels calm and happy whenever I drop him off or have attended the stay-and-play. I get regular updates and photos via the app.

My daughter started nursery at 10 months old in the baby room, she's now 16 months old and thriving! She loves nursery, her key worker and other staff members that interact with her around the nursery. I feel comfortable leaving her at nursery with updates through the day on her daily diary. After a
slight delay in her walking, feedback was listened to and acted upon to aid her standing, cruising and now walking. Her first confident steps were taken at nursery and filmed which I can't express my gratitude enough for.

Went to the stay & play for my 1-year-old today, and I must say they were absolutely amazing with the kids. They have so much energy and constantly trying their best to entertain them. I am glad we picked this nursery!

My little boy absolutely loves nursery. His key worker and all the staff in his room are lovely and fantastic with him. They always let us know what activities he has completed in the day and he often comes home with paintings or pictures. He often talks about nursery at home. Whenever we have had to
raise anything it has been dealt with immediately. All the staff are friendly and approachable.
The only thing I would like is more pictures and observations. We do not get many observations come through. I know they are based on interests which take weeks at a time but it would be nice to have a weekly update on the app!

The staff are so friendly and caring. They give great feedback and you feel they genuinely care about each child. Our child loves going there. Having a forest school on site with forest school leaders is invaluable. I feel very lucky that our child goes to Footsteps nursery.

My oldest daughter has just left the Footsteps Canwell Nursery & Pre-School family and we have thoroughly enjoyed watching her learn and grow. Staff have most definitely helped her with her confidence, skills and abilities and strength in communication, they were a pleasure to see. To name a few, two
members of staff have been amazing.
Now with my toddler, the staff upstairs led by the senior have been brilliant. Our little one, who saw her first twelve months through lockdown, was a quiet and timid little girl. Attending Canwell and the help of the staff have really helped my youngest grow from strength to strength.
I can speak very highly of all the staff and management but for me, it's the senior and the gang!

My very first contact with Footsteps I felt at ease and the staff were very helpful and open to me coming and visiting the nursery. Love the fact the building was an existing school and not a house conversion. The nursery is small and friendly and everyone would get to know each other. An added bonus
with the natural garden/forest is a great experience to get out and explore nature. I like the app which is user-friendly and you get progress picture updates on what your child has eaten, even how many nappy changes. I have found all the staff very friendly and helpful and this makes me feel at ease. Good security with finger access allows you access to the site which allowed you to view from a distance and see how your child is interacting with children and staff.
Love the messy play, cooking and external staff activities such as singing, dance sports, football etc.

A lovely little nursery that my daughter absolutely adores. The staff are so personable and know each child by name which means it has a real comforting feel to it. When my daughter first started at 10 months she spent most of her days crying but with the help of the staff shes really come into her
own. She has way more confidence and is a lot more independent! I wouldnt send my children any where else!

My little one has just started in the baby room. In the mornings they are welcomed with smiles and go into the room happily. I call to check in and get a detailed account of their morning with information which is personal to her. The girls in the room are really warm and I know that my baby gets all
the love and cuddles she needs. The girls have sent some lovely keepsakes home that we’ll treasure forever like painted footprints and pictures of themed days. Something else that I really appreciate is that most days she comes home with bottles sterilised and ready for the evening - bonus!! High recommend.

My child attends once a week. She has settled very well and has made a great connection with her key workers. They set many varied activities each week and seem to really know my child. We are well informed at the end of each day, with a full brief of what she has been up to all day. I feel my child
is well looked after whilst in your care. I would like more entries to her e-learning book, maybe one per week. There have only been two since September 2021. Overall, very happy.

My daughter has recently started in the baby room at Canwell. Due to the pandemic, she hasn’t been around other children or many adults - so I was nervous about how she may be. The staff made us both feel so welcome and the management team are so friendly and are always happy to help.
The food is prepared
fresh daily and the menu always provides a variety of foods each week. Staff have supported the needs of my daughter and requirements to suit her development.
Feedback on pick up is always so detailed along with a daily diary to show what they have eaten, nappy changes, sleep and what they have gotten up to! It’s so lovely to hear what different things they get up to whilst they are there.
We honestly couldn’t recommend this nursery or staff enough!

My little boy has been attending this nursery since June 2020; we loved the nursery as soon as we went to look around it and have loved it every day since! He was just under 1 when he officially started and we were anxious about sending him to a nursery, especially with the current situation with the
pandemic, but it has been such an amazing experience for him. The staff are kind and caring and my little boy has grown in confidence so much. There are wonderful activities set up each day and I just love hearing about all the fantastic things he’s been up to. Since myself and my partner are both key workers, we have had no real choice but to send him to nursery and I am so glad that Footsteps Canwell is the one we can take him to as it gives me peace of mind that he is happy when I take him and that he is so well looked after and stimulated for the whole time he’s there. Absolutely recommend this fabulous nursery.

My little boy started here in September 2020 following in the footsteps of his older brother and sister. 3rd child around and I’m still extremely happy with Footsteps Canwell. The staff are always very helpful and professional. It’s not been easy or straightforward given the covid pandemic but the staff
here have handled things in my opinion with the utmost professionalism ensuring the safety of our little ones and their staff. Most importantly my little boy is so happy to go and loves his time there. Footsteps offer him an enriched array of activities that I am very pleased with. Knowing my little boy is safe and happy is paramount for me and I feel very content leaving him in the safe hands of his key worker and the other nursery nurses in his room. Thank you Footsteps, again 3rd time around.

I am so impressed with the nursery, the facilities, the staff and ultimately the care for the little ones. My son has been going to the nursery for approximately 3 months and I have been blown away by the professionalism and the friendliness of all the staff. They are really passionate about the care
of the little ones and are keen to keep you fully informed of all the activities they do day to day. We joined Footsteps after having had a nightmare with another setting so were anxious about the ease of settling our son in somewhere new. They completely allayed all of our concerns and went out of their way to ensure everything was perfect. I really cannot thank them enough. The deputy manager in particular was amazing. Thank you!

I am the very proud manager of Footsteps Canwell.


I absolutely love my role here at Footsteps as Canwell is a quirky little building with a warm, home from home feel.
The team work closely together and no room is far from the other so children flow in transition between stages of the nursery as they grow and develop.


I am lucky enough to work with some of the most kind and caring practitioners who are all so passionate about their roles and the important work we do.
On site we have our own Forest School which opens up a wealth of opportunities for children to explore the wonders of the outdoor world.

I am the Deputy Manager here at Footsteps Canwell, I been working for Footsteps since June 2019 where I began as an apprentice.
In 2021 I progressed to a room senior in the Baby room before transitioning into Rising 3’s where I previously had lots of experience.
I am versatile and adapt well with all age groups which I consider a huge strength of mine.


I truly love working within the childcare sector and giving our children the best start to life by sparking excitement and learning into their nursery days.
