The Cottage Day Nursery in Bedford Street, Derby, was established in 1990. It is a family-run business with nurseries based in Derby, Mickleover and Heanor. Bedford Street nursery is the largest in the group, with extensive facilities and age-specific playgrounds.

The baby and toddler unit is in its own building and comprises of a play room, dinner/art room, sensory room, sleep room, physical room and playground.

Main Nursery and Preschool (ages 2+) are on the opposite side of the road and are also in their own buildings. They share a vast playground which also consists of a sensory garden, vegetable garden, story area, indoor soft play area and indoor gym.

If you're looking for a nursery that goes above & beyond, then look no further.
The incredible staff have been dedicated to my sons development & he's come on tremendously. His confidence & abilities are improving every week.
They show a genuine interest in what my son's been getting up to outside
of nursery too so they can continue to support his learning whilst with them.
Every morning my son's excited to go in, he giggles, claps his hands & sings in the car. I really couldn't have asked for a better nursery to send him to. We're heartbroken that he won't be able to continue his learning here as we're moving, but even then the childcare manager has been assisting us with finding a nursery in our new area! This goes to show how invested they are in ensuring my son has the best start in life be it with them or another nursery. Every staff member is caring, encouraging, dedicated, trustworthy, patient, supportive & attentive. The list could go on. Thank you for caring for my boy xx

My daughter absolutely loves attending nursery. The staff are warm, friendly and engaging with other children and families. There's always activities both fun and educational. I've watched my child develop exceptionally under the supervision and care of the brilliant team. Selecting this nursery was
by far the best decision I have made.

Our daughter has been attending since she was 11months old and loves coming to nursery. Its lovely to hear what shes been learning about during her day and shes very excited to tell us at collection. Shes built strong bonds with both staff and her peers, her confidence has also excelled during her time
at the cottage. Management are supportive, friendly and welcoming. They are also very informative when it comes to funding, events and child's development. They have beautiful homely bright and airy rooms and large outdoor spaces which our daughter loves exploring.

I had a great experience with my own two children being cared for at Cottage Day Nursery and it was the first place I contacted when recieving care for my baby niece. They are brilliant and I feel they genuinely care about her and the other children. Whenever I leave or collect her, she and they have
smiles on their faces, which is so reassuring. They are also a kind and friendly bunch!

Having had two children spend 4 years at The Cottage, I have to say they have been fantastic. Staff are attentive, engaging and most importantly focus on the development and wellbeing of each child - individually. Their flexibility and accommodation of working parents is commendable. Management take
on feedback with a true will to improve, in order to main high educational standards. And they have had so much fun!

My baby has been with this nursery since she was 9 months, she has grown very well, she walks well, has good vocabulary and is feeding better than I had hoped.The staff at the nursery is amazing and my daughter is always happy to see them in the morning. My child has been well looked after here for 3 years. I feel so comfortable leaving my little one with the staff here. My child has valuable relationships with all the key workers and they have helped her to come on leaps and bounds. We will be sad to leave to start big school

Fantastic nursery, we couldn't have asked for more. The team has known us for 9 years now and they are part of our family. They made each day fun, balanced, and interactive with both children and families, children had much love at all stages. Our eldest continued to attend a sister nursery over her
holidays, which worked equally well. Thank you for making each day fun and special.

My daughter has been attending The Cottage in Bedford Street Derby for almost 6 months now. Since starting at The Cottage my wife and I have watched our daughter come along leaps and bounds in terms of her development, speech, counting, socialising with other kids and more. She comes home and tells
us all about her day and how great a time she has had and what she's been doing. The staff are all wonderful and are clearly very interested in the development of all the children under their care. They have been very helpful at both guiding and supporting us all during periods of transition like toilet training for instance. I'd highly recommend The Cottage on Bedford Street if you need a great nursery that you can trust to take care of your little ones.

The Cottage has been a consistently excellent nursery for our children - they have been looked after in every respect to the highest standard of care. We feel very well supported by the nursery during difficult phases and transitions and they have always worked with us to achieve the best outcome for
our family. Our children's time at The Cottage has been nothing short of outstanding and it has set them up wonderfully for school. We cannot recommend them enough.

The best nursery for my child. She has learnt and progressed so much since being at The Cottage. The staff are fantastic with all the children. They are caring and loving. I couldn't imagine my child going anywhere else, and we will certainly be back with our younger child.

The staff have been amazing with my son especially with him having special needs and have placed equity over equality and always making sure each is a great day for him. The admin staff are always fabulous with parent communication and making sure the seating is perfect for all children irrespective
of their needs, you can always go to them with concerns and there is a ready response and open communication every time.
The entire team at The Cottage Day Nursery are very lovely, professional, ready to give care, adaptive and overall every member of staff welcomes both the children and parents with a wonderful smile every day and all the time.

Cannot rate this nursery more highly, they are brilliant.
From the beginning, they are supportive of getting you started. Both from a paperwork standpoint and getting your little one comfortable in their new environment.
The care the staff show the children is outstanding, our little one loves it
here.
The meals are varied with excellent nutritional balance.
At every stage you are kept up to date with what is going on with your little one day to day and the staff always make time to speak in more detail if needed. The senior staff are very accessible with any issues you may have and are very flexible so that you can ensure that what is best for your child is always at the forefront.
We could not have hoped to have found a better place to send our little one.
As an aside, is it excellent to see the dedication the nursery has to developing their staff and training new professionals.
It really comes across how passionate and motivated everyone who works there is.

This nursery was recommended by a friend to us. We enrolled our daughter since she was approx 7 -8 months old. I am grateful to have found a nursery that fits our needs so well! The food is excellent, children have many activities throughout the day and the nurture given is beyond excellent. Many thanks

Amazing nursery for both of my boys who have been all the way through the baby unit to preschool. The staff are so friendly and helpful and my boys really enjoy it at the Cottage Day Nursery. The food is nutritious and I think another bonus of this nursery, is that it has its own soft play too.

My little girl has attended The Cottage Nursery in Derby since she was 15 months old and I couldn't recommend this nursery enough! The facilities and environments that she has been able to explore are fantastic! She has just come home with a Christmas folder full of beautiful artwork and creations.
Every morning she walks in happy and smiling and it is rare that I ever pick her up and she is sad, or any of the children for that matter. I truly would recommend this nursery to anyone.

Hi, my name is Amy and I have worked at The Cottage since 2014.

I originally began my time here as a Nursery Deputy, before being promoted in 2015 to Nursery Manager. Since then we have had quite the journey - a pandemic included - where my role grew into the Business Manager of all three of our sites.

I have worked in nurseries for the majority of my life and I feel so privileged to work at a place like The Cottage. We strive to maintain the same level of outstanding care across all 3 of our sites and working closely together to share best practice, ideas and support where necessary.
