Akeley Wood Nursery in the village of Wicken, between Milton Keynes and Buckingham, is set in acres of private grounds. The driveway is flanked by open fields, with sheep and lambs as neighbours. It is open 51-weeks a year and children can join from 12 months old.

Children enjoy specialist teaching every week including PE, Music, French, Computing and Forest Adventures, led by the qualified forest school leader. This is a key benefit of being part of a leading independent day school. In school holidays the nursery practitioners take the children to specialist classrooms including Food Tech to bake.

Structured learning is introduced during the mornings in the pre-school room to prepare children for school.

The nursery was fully refurbished in summer 2016, creating a wonderful environment for play and early learning through free-flow activities.

Meals and snacks are freshly prepared on site.

We highly recommend Akeley Wood. Our little boy joined at 12 months and settled really quickly. The staff are great: caring, kind and supportive. And the activities the children get to do are fantastic and really varied. The facilities are also lovely - particularly having such a lot of external space.
We'd recommend it to anyone.

We were looking to put our daughter in nursery for some time. It was very hard to find the one we would like. Akeley Wood Nursery was the one that left a great impression. The staff are very professional. The nursery itself has a beautiful layout. There’s amazing space outside for kids to run and explore.
They also have a forest school which is a great place for kids to learn and be in nature. My daughter has been going to the nursery for over a year. She truly enjoys it. Every time I pick her up she says how much fun she had that day. We will be taking our second daughter to Akeley Wood Nursery too. Highly recommend this place.

Truly exceptional nursery filled with the most wonderful members of staff.
My two children, currently 3 years and 2 years of age, absolutely love going there.
Akeley Wood Nursery ups the standard in terms of not only minding your children, but also caring for their developmental progress.
They
want your child to be best prepared for the start of their academic lives by providing them with forest school, arts and crafts, languages and IT skills.
They always update the nursery system so you can see how your child has done throughout the day, along with pictures, videos and text to show you what they’ve been doing.
The team always respond as soon as they are able to, with any queries you may have.

My daughter (and my son before her) love going to nursery every day. They get so excited to drive up, see the staff and do exciting new things. From music lessons, to forest school, fun play time and creating a perfect start to introducing early learning, I cannot thank the nursery enough.

Excellent day nursery. They have made a significant difference to my child’s upbringing in a positive and caring environment. Excellent caring staff who are always professional, caring, and helpful. The physical education and forest school are our favourites. They genuinely strive to make a difference.

A wonderful nursery with dedicated and caring staff in a beautiful setting. The opportunities and activities open to the children is brilliant. Children are challenged to make progress through discovery, teamwork, and play. A mix of indoor and outdoor activities all year round. The staff know each child
so well and genuinely care about their happiness and development. My little boy has been so happy here for 2 years.

My son has just started at Akeley Wood Nursery and I’ve been so worried about him going as he’s only 2 and has spent the whole of last year obviously in lockdown with just me. I had nothing to worry about though as he absolutely loves it. The communication throughout the day is brilliant and I feel
well informed on what my son has been up to. The nursery teachers are so lovely too and always take the time to talk to me about the day when I pick my son up. It’s a lovely nursery and very well run.

In the 3 years that my daughter has attended the nursery, there has been a regular turnover of staff particularly approaching new academic years. However, these transitions and turnovers have been well managed and caused no impact on the care and support delivered to my child which is commended. My
daughter has received excellent care and support and has formed close bonds with her key workers. My daughter has flourished from attending the nursery and we will miss all the team when she starts school in September.

Hannah

Hannah Winnett

Job Title: Nursery Manager

Joined: 2009

Hannah began her career by studying Childcare at Banbury College in 2002-2004. She then went straight to work in the local Pre-School in Oxfordshire, which helped develop her passion for helping children increase their skills and knowledge. Hannah has been at Akeley Wood for 11 years which has seen her work up from a Nursery Nurse, to Deputy Manager and then to Nursery Manager. Throughout her time at Akeley Hannah has worked in all the rooms. In 2011 Hannah completed her NVQ4 through the Open University. Hannah is very passionate about Safeguarding and keeping the children safe within the setting. Hannah is the Early Years Designated Safeguarding Lead. Hannah has a big family which takes over most of her weekends and she loves to go out exploring the local area with her 5-year-old son and husband.


Marilisa

Marilisa Colucci

Job Title: Deputy Nursery Manager and Caterpillar’s Room Manager

Joined: 2011

Marilisa, also known as Lisa studied her NVQ Level 2 at Happy Child Training College in London whilst attending her first Nursery setting four days a week. Lisa then went on to study childcare further by studying her NVQ Level 3. She started her career in childcare 13 years ago and has worked with children aged 12 months to 5 years. Lisa moved to Milton Keynes in 2011 and since then has enjoyed building up her career within Akeley Wood Junior School. She has enjoyed taking on new roles and experiences such as Room Manager and recently Deputy Manager. One of Lisa’s favourite activities is singing and teaching children new songs. Outside of school Lisa is kept busy by her big family including her triplet brothers and going on yearly holidays to Italy to visit her family.
