Children 1st @ Newark is an award-winning childcare provider, having been rated as one of the Top 20 nurseries in the East Midlands by daynurseries.co.uk in May 2021. This award was based on their consistently high reviews from parents and guardians. It is situated very close to the A1 and A46, with good access to the town centre and train station.

The nursery has been refurbished throughout with designated areas for babies, toddlers, early years and children aged up to 12-years-old. It has a huge garden complete with fort, mud kitchen and woodland area for children to explore.

The children benefit from eating healthy food to help fuel the development of their young minds and bodies.

The nursery's friendly, enthusiastic staff are fully trained and very experienced. Child to staff ratios are lower than Ofsted requirements.

Children are encouraged to choose their own activity with a huge variety of options both indoors and outside in the garden.

The nursery offers funded places for eligible 2, 3 and 4-year-olds.

I am so happy with this nursery, I can not find anything to criticise. I have found the staff to be professional, friendly, helpful and very caring. Whatever time I have turned up, the children are all being cared for and looked after extremely well. The equipment and facilities are shared very fairly.
My daughter took a few sessions to settle but the staff were very helpful and reassuring. The communication was brilliant. My daughter now sings on the way to the nursery because she really looks forward to going. The food always smells good and my daughter enjoys her meals.

I viewed many nurseries in the Newark area and this was by far the best. The staff are so lovely and friendly and the nursery is a lovely environment as well as educational.


Choosing childcare can be daunting and scary but I knew my child would love it!

Our experience with Children 1st has been outstanding from first contact. All the staff communicate in a friendly way and are very responsive to any questions we have had. They have a genuine love for children's development and a high standard of care. My son loves attending and talks about his carers
often. The philosophy of learning through play is as important to the staff and organisation as it is to us, which we highly appreciate. There is a large focus on healthy eating and they have supported us in maintaining a varied and nutritious diet for our son. The facilities available are amazing and like none we have seen in the area. My son feels like he is in a park with a multitude of equipment every time he's there. I don't blame him when he doesn't want to leave at the end of the day!

My daughter is my third child that has attended Children 1st @ Newark, and even though there has been a change of management since my sons attended the nursery, I am extremely happy with the nursery. I feel like my children have always been well-cared for, well-engaged and very happy whilst at the nursery.
My daughter has several dietary needs and the cook still provides her with suitable and wholesome meals. I get a detailed report at the end of each day: what she has eaten, what she has played with, how many nappy changes she's had and how long she has slept for. All staff members are very pleasant and welcoming each morning and when I collect her each afternoon. I would not hesitate to recommend the nursery to anyone!

Children 1st (Breedon House) has always been fabulous from my son's first day. He loves his time there and the staff are supportive and lovely. I feel like the experience my son has at nursery has been invaluable to his development, he's always teaching me new songs and telling me about his friends
and carers. The facilities are great too, far better than other nurseries we visited, both inside and in the huge and varied garden. I was initially so worried about him going to nursery, I'm so glad Children 1st have given us such a positive experience.

Nursery is in a pleasant semi rural location with a large garden. The garden is the best nursery garden in the area by far. The staff are really nice and are really informative on day activities, feeding, nappy changes that your child has achieved that day. The building seems safe with door access
control. My daughter had a temperature one day, the nursery rang and informed me before giving treatment. Generally areas seem clean and tidy. My daughter (6 months old when writing this) has a big smile every time I drop her off!

My daughter has been at Breedon House for years, its been amazing, can't fault it. We moved her from another nursery and have been very pleased with ever aspect of the nursery from the rooms to the gardens to the people, it really has over achieved our expectations. She is very happy and her progress
has always been great, we are always kept up to date, an Eylog has also been a nice touch. She has grown close to the ladies (as she calls the nursery staff) especially her nursery nurse who is great and will be sadly missed.

The staff at Children 1st have always been excellent. They are always very helpful and both my boys love them. One has been there for 2 1/2 years and the other about 6 months. The activities they are given always seem to be teaching them important skills. The outside space is amazing. The food always
sounds good and our eldest talks about all he experiences at nursery in a positive way. We are very happy with all the care and service we and our boys have had.

This is such a friendly and caring place, my two boys are very different and yet they are both well understood and catered for. They adore their key workers and love going to nursery. I have also had to ask for extra days here and there and the staff are so accommodating. My older child has learnt so
much in the year he has been going to nursery he and I will be sad when he leaves to go to big boy school.

Children 1st @ Newark is an amazing nursery. I would highly recommend it to anyone. The facilities are outstanding. The staff are lovely, my child absolutely loves his nursery days. The outside space and activities are more than you could hope for. The care and attention the staff pay the children

My son has attended Children 1st since he was 8 months old and choosing to put him into this nursery was one of the best choices we made. He has developed into a kind, caring young toddler and it is all thanks to the staff at this nursery. From everyone to the onsite cook & housekeeper to the staff
in his room & the manager - everyone has a friendly face and a big hello. I really couldn't ask for much more.


The outdoor space is the best I have ever seen and I love hearing he has been in the 'Diggers factory' or on a 'Nature hunt' in their vast grounds. As a parent peace of mind whilst I work is key, and the staff at Children 1st give me that. My son even asks for his Keyworkers & Coworkers as soon as he wakes up!

My son has been at the nursery since he was 1, and is now in the toddler room. It has a strong family feel, with all staff knowing him by name with a genuine interest in his well-being, even if not directly in care of him currently. He has progressed significantly since starting there, and settles really
well thanks to the staff and friendly feel. My daughter who is 5 also attends the holiday club when not at school and she loves going. Even though she only goes in the holidays, the staff make her feel welcome and as though she goes there all the time. Outdoor space is fantastic, with mud bath, wooden fort, digger pit, and lots of other things!! Would thoroughly recommend.

Job Title: Nursery Manager

My name is Sophie Willis, I have been working for Children 1st since 2014. Starting as an apprentice, moving to a qualified nursery nurse, room leader Deputy Manager, and now Nursery Manager. I work at both nursery settings in Newark, which has provided me with a great deal of experience working with a variety of children and their families. I am currently completing my Level 4 with the company and I am excited to further develop my skills. I particularly enjoy mentoring our teams and guiding them with policies and procedures. I have a passion for developing sensory play for babies. You will often find me in the baby room having lots of cuddles.
