Our Granddaughter has been attending Millfield Nursery School for just 1 Month during a family transition.
We cannot praise this nursery enough.
The Management and wonderful staff members are a credit to the industry.
To see a small nervous child become confident and so happy in a new environment
has been a joy.
We love the freedom that the children have to explore and learn from each other.
We agree with a previous reviewer when we state that "This really is the kind of nursery you dream of for your child".
Thank You

Millfield is a wonderful nursery school – no doubt about it. It is true that not all nurseries are the same and from my experience Millfield is exceptional.

The staff are extraordinarily supportive and dedicated to the nurture and development of the children in their care. The staff are warm, approachable,

knowledgeable and caring – such that even an incredibly shy child, such as my own, quickly settle in and benefit from the high-quality early years provision provided by Millfield; my daughter often did not want to come home at the end of each day and could not wait to get back there each morning.
The provision Millfield is excellent, children are engaged, well-behaved and learn through play. Activities are fun and inventive (and sometimes messy!) and stretch them mentally as well as physically. Essentially, kids have a great time at Millfield. Millfield Nursery School is also in a beautiful rural setting with lots of outside space and the
children are able to take full advantage.

Our children attended 2 preschool settings over the years and Millfield Nursery School was the outstanding option. The staff are wonderful and really care about the children and their development. The daily creative activities were varied and the dance and sport sessions were a great addition. The outside
play area is exceptional along with the lovely nature walks and the neighbouring alpacas. The children were school ready and have lots of happy memories they still talk about. As parents, we had complete confidence in Millfield Nursery School. We wouldn't have wanted the children to attend anywhere else.

Between our 3 children we have attended 5 nursery settings over the years, and Millfield has been our favourite for so many reasons...the idyllic setting in the countryside, the owned fields for nature rambles/sports day behind the nursery (and the alpacas next door!), The superb outdoor wooden playground
equipment, the clean, well organised free flow rooms inside, the caring experienced staff, and the friendly, helpful attitude from everyone. My youngest has just started school and his Reception teacher has been really impressed with his reading, grasp of numbers and fine motor control. Millfield has given him the best start...he's both happy and confident. This is a long established, professionally run, caring and fun setting with a real sense of homeliness about it. We miss Millfield as it holds nothing but positive memories. I would not hesitate to recommend Millfield to any parent.

Both of my children attended Millfield for two years prior to starting school. Millfield is a caring, warm and friendly environment. Unlike the city nurseries we viewed, there is excellent outdoor space and great facilities. Both my children highly rated the chef's cooking skills. The children were
well cared for and we felt updated with their learning and development progress.

The attentive staff and fantastic facilities at Millfield Nursery School created very happy pre-school memories for our 3 older children whilst the youngest is still enjoying the delights of its rural location. The "Busy Bee" books produced for every child depict hours of fun painting, drawing and dressing
up as well as learning to read, write and identify colours. They have baked, decorated and brought home all manner of buns and biscuits as well as tasted interesting food from around the world to celebrate and understand special events such as Chinese New Year. Wonderful arts and crafts have accompanied every occasion from harvest to Halloween and in 10 years I've never received the same card for Mothering Sunday. There are sports days and fund-raisers which give parents an opportunity to meet. Taking part in the sponsored walk around the grounds of Millfield in the summer confirmed how right we were to send our children here. The amazing staff are kind and patient and encourage these qualities from the children in their care. I particularly like the fact that the children are not confined to an age-related room but have the freedom to choose between the rumpus room or the quiet room and to establish special friendships with children older and younger than themselves. Son number one liked the books and games in the quiet room whilst highly active son number 2 loved playing outside with his friends. Millfield channeled his energy and zest for life in a positive way with its passion for the outdoors. The outdoor play area is brilliant. Our eldest daughter enjoyed singing, dancing and dressing up whilst our youngest loves painting and sticking. She's 3 and we have seen her grow in confidence since she started a year ago and her language has come on in leaps and bounds. My husband and I are delighted with Millfield and we cannot recommend it highly enough. Our children have been so happy and had so much fun, I shall be very sad when our youngest has to leave to start school. At least we have 2 more years of magnificent Millfield!

We signed up our little boy while he was still a baby and we were thrilled with the facilities on offer and all the outdoor space he would enjoy when he turned 2!

He started out a little shy at first (having only been at home with mummy up till then) but he just couldn't resist all the activities

(they would cleverly pick up on his favourite things and leave them in full view on arrival). Our first catch up to review his progress showed a detailed reference to how he would conduct his day, and the things he was doing and learning and you could see a child who was gradually growing in confidence and understanding! Our little boy will now leave to go onto Primary next year but he will take with him not only his early years key stages of learning, but also fantastic memories of fun and play, dancing, sport; exploring in the countryside and not least the bonds he made with the very devoted staff, who after all make the place as wonderful as it is!

This is the nursery you dream of finding for your child. Friendly staff who feel like part of your extended family, fabulous setting with more outside space than my local park and a solid structured learning through play routine (with the emphasis on fun)
We were sad to leave Millfield as our son has
just started school but we are already seeing the benefits as his reading and writing skills are helping him to settle in.
Millfield may be a little out of your preferred route to or from work or seem a little out of the way but that is what helps make it so special. It is definitely worth the detour and I always recommend it to friends.

We instantly fell in love with Millfield Nursery when we looked round it. The outside space is something you don’t get in most nurseries. A perfect environment for a highly active little boy!

My son started at 3 years, a very shy and sensitive little boy. The staff were exceptional during his settling

in period.

The environment at Millfield is warm and caring. I watched my son develop into a self-assured, confident little boy fully ready for school!

Its obvious Millfield are totally focused on development and provide thoughtful and interesting activities to support the development of each individual child. Dance classes, football training, baking and walks in the countryside were just a few of my son’s favourite activities.

The staff and owners are truly amazing! They are friendly, attentive, supportive and caring. We have always felt confident leaving our son here which is a testament to the excellent staff.

This nursery is extremely organised and run to an exceptional standard by the owners. Communication is excellent. Regular emails/newsletters etc. They were also very flexible, changing days etc..

I cannot rate this nursery highly enough! Caring staff who will do absolutely everything they can to ensure your children are happy. My only wish is that he had started there earlier!

Millfield Nursery School is in an idyllic environment for children, in peaceful countryside with lots of outdoor space which enhances their play and learning. The staff are kind and caring and provide a clear structure for activities throughout the day. The free flow between rooms and mixing of age
groups sets it apart from other nurseries and enables friendships and mutual support to develop between the children. The nursery also provides appropriate preparation for school and has shown a thorough understanding of how children learn. Regular progress meetings have been very helpful. The nursery is very well run with long standing and consistent staff and communication with parents is excellent. The range of activities is wide and include dance lessons and walks around the grounds to visit animals in nearby fields.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.125)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.125) out of 10 for Millfield Nursery School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Millfield Nursery School is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.125 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Millfield Nursery School is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 number of registered child places is 8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.125

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
