For over 25 years Heron Day Nursery has been working in partnership with staff, parents and outside agencies to deliver the best possible start in life.

Staff work to ensure each child has the highest quality of learning in a safe and welcoming environment.

The nursery, which takes children from six weeks to five-years-old, has a spacious outdoor play environment for children to explore and learn in. Inside, each room is open plan with a variety of stimulating activities to encourage children to thrive.

The nursery provides an out of school club for children aged four to 12 years that attend Mabs Cross Primary School and St Marys and St Johns Primary school in Wigan. They provide holiday club for all children to attend aged four to 12 years with a variety of stimulating activities.

The nursery has a current Ofsted rating of 'Good' (May 2022) and a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 - Very Good (January 2023).

It offers two, three and four-year-old funding, and 30 hours' funding for three and four-year-olds. The nursery offers flexibility to use funded hours to support parents and offer a 51 week spread.

Couldn't have asked for a better nursery for my 3 year old. He is in Lower Preschool now. So well settled. He is there from Baby room and the staff are so good with him. He doesn't want to leave when we go to pick him up.

We love the Nursery, our son has been here since September of 2022, and has grown and developed really well. We see his progress daily after being at nursery. The staff are very caring and responsive and give timely feedbacks and reports. When we were looking for a nursery for our son in 2022 we were
had no idea where our child will be safe and cared for while we were away at work, but since Herons has made us confident that our son will be safe and cared for and not only this, but also will grow as an individual child. If we have any concerns Herons staff are always welcoming to receive advice and suggestions to improve or provide additional caring. We, as parents, also enjoy dropping our child off and picking him up again three times a week. Herons has family feel in it. Keep it up!

My daughter loves the nursery and all the staff. Her face lights up as soon as she sees we are getting near and when we get to hand over she is jumping out of my arms with excitement. The staff are diligent and caring. I couldn't have wished for a more warm and friendly environment for her to be looked
after in. She has had issues with gaining weight and everyone has gone above and beyond with extra bottle feeds and encouraging her with food. I recommend Heron Day Nursery to everyone.

My daughter has been attending after-school club and holiday club and has asked to attend breakfast club.
Staff team are always welcoming, friendly and fun activities in line with celebrations or Halloween, Easter or birthdays, sporting events.
Whilst at times it can be busy the team know your child
and can always feedback how they have been during their stay.
I like that they show an interest in my child outside of their involvement, knowing the teachers and their activities.
The school has been closed last minute on a few occasions and the club has provided holiday club at the last minute.
Would recommend to anyone.

Our daughter has been coming to Heron Day for 7 years, in both the nursery and now in the breakfast club - she still loves it! The staff are amazing and show genuine affection for the children and there is always an interesting activity on offer. We have always had great communication and updates from
them and they were even able to reach out and offer a last-minute holiday club when the primary school had to close unexpectedly for a day. Wonderful!

The girls are amazing here always smiling and my little boy loves going and seeing the girls at Heron Breakfast Club. I don't drop him off but I know he has the best time in the morning and he always gives them a huge hug when he sees them.

My daughter has been coming to Heron Day Nursery for a while now and we love it so much the staff are so lovely and my daughter has lovely friends. I love the fact they have an app to keep us informed in what she's doing when she's at nursery, she really bloomed and become more confident when coming

Cannot recommend this nursery enough. The staff care so much about the children, and they create such lovely bonds. My son is so happy there. There is a lot of involvement with parents and they are constantly thinking of new things to do with the children every day. No concerns about safety at all,
the children are all looked after so well and they always have enough time to give each child enough attention.

Brilliant nursery, the staff are amazing with my little boy he's always happy and smiling to go. All the staff are really lovely, very welcoming and caring and helpful. Both my daughter and son attend Heron Day Nursery, she grew up throughout the nursery and is now in school going to morning/afterschool club which is great, amazing staff and environment for the children. They have made every effort to understand her, helped her to learn and grow. She loves it there
and attends holiday club too which she also loves, she is always so excited to go in the holidays!
My son also attends, he absolutely loves nursery and really adores all of the staff he is with. He has learned so much from them and continues learning everyday. The staff are always available for a conversation if needed, and it is very much an open door attitude. They are very understanding and helpful in every possible scenario, they have always been great since they first started here (around 6 years ago now). I am so glad I chose this nursery and I truly appreciate everyone at the nursery and everything they do for us.

The staff are brilliant, my daughter loves to go there. The managers and teachers are very friendly and really helpful. They do lots of activities for kids. Is close to town center so easily you can get access to bus station and train. I totally recommend this nursery.

My little boy first started at another nursery until it closed, the staff made the transfer to this nursery very easy and pleasant for him, since being at the Heron Day Nursery all the staff have contributed to the development of my child and he loves coming here. When he moves on in September he will
continue breakfast club here, so will still see the staff he has grown so fond of, overall Heron Day Nursery have been amazing and I couldn't have wished for a better place for my child to have been. Thank you to you all I'm more grateful than you'll ever know.

I have worked in the nursery industry for 24 years and gained all my experience at Heron Day Nursery. I worked my way up the ladder and have been a Manager for the last 13 years. I have an NVQ level 5 Early years qualification, paediatric first aid, food hygiene level 3 and safeguarding level 3. I am designated lead for the nursery and have completed many courses throughout my years to gain a wide range of knowledge and experience.
