Sandpit Nursery is located in Barnsley town centre and has been open since 2003 and operated by 1st Safari since September 2016.

The nursery is situated close to the M1 and the main bus and train station and is close to several local schools and Barnsley College.

Sandpit Nursery provides places for children aged two who are entitled to funding (subject to certain criteria) and children who are in receipt of 3 and 4-year-old early education funding, including the 30 hours funding.

No additional fees are charged for children accessing fully funded places.

Staff follow the 'early years foundation stage' curriculum which covers children's learning and development from birth to the end of their first year in full-time education.

Each child is assigned a key person who is there to support children and parents during their time at nursery and parents will be given regular updates and information on how their child is doing and practitioners are always around to answer any questions.

The nursery was inspected by Ofsted on 13/12/2018 and was graded Good across all areas.

Funding & Fees Guide for Sandpit Nursery

  • Sessions: 8am to 1pm & 1pm to 6pm are charged at £38/session.
    8am to 6pm is charged at £66/session.
    Early starts can be arranged from 7:30am, please call to discuss your requirements.

  • Free Hours/Places for children 2-4 years (Subject to criteria), we also offer a Before and After School Care to Local Primary School and Holiday Club in School Holidays.
    Please contact us for the latest prices.
    We have a number of Sessions available to meet/match our parent's requirements.
    We do not charge for Bank Holidays or any defined days that we are closed (Normally around Christmas).

A lovely nursery setting, managed very well, staff are very attentive and ensure the children have a safe and happy environment. My very clingy 2-year-old has settled very well here due to the caring nature of all the staff members. Would highly recommend.

My eldest boy currently attends sandpit nursery. This was his first nursery, he'd been to a childminder previously. He really enjoys his time at nursery, there is a variety of activities for him to do, he enjoys painting, playing in the home corner, playing outside. They have an extensive variety of
food available for the children for their breakfast, dinner and tea along with a variety of snacks for the children. The level of care he's received is amongst the best, the staff are lovely and so friendly, I'll be sad when he's ready to leave to go to reception. I have two young children who will be attending this nursery too. I'd highly recommend sandpit nursery. A fantastic setting I wouldn't hesitate sending my boys anywhere else.

My son has been here since he was 9months old, (he's now about to start school) as a first time mum I was worried about returning to work and leaving him anywhere. My son has loved the place since day one, all the staff members are fantastic with the children and parents. We will miss them so much when
the time comes to leave, my son adores the staff. I couldn't ask for more from the nursery, they really do care and do so much for the children and the families. I would recommend to everyone.

My daughter has been with sandpit nursery since last September (she's now 2) the staff are amazing. Can not do enough for the children and their families! I went through a very hard time at the beginning of the year and very recently and they gave me so much support when they did not need to!
You
can actually tell that the staff love their jobs and love working with kids. My little girl has come on so much since being there, her talking has come on so much and she's become so confident in playing with other children.
Shes just come on so much, all thanks to the staff at sandpit nursery!

Fantastic nursery. Our little boy has been attending the nursery since 2017. The staff are amazing and nothing is ever too much. Loads for them to do and the knowledge he has gained is amazing. Absolutely love this nursery, we could not rate it high enough. Our daughter is currently 18 months and has been there since 9 months. From the support, our daughter gets from all staff to the support we as parents get is wonderful. The level of education and also emotional wellbeing is of a high standard.
Any questions are answered straight away, with all staff being polite, friendly, and understanding. The premises are very safe and secure, and given the current global situation (Covid-19) the staff have gone above and beyond to ensure all safety measures are put in place before more children were due to return.
Again we cannot rate the staff highly enough, they are fantastic in all aspects of our daughter's needs.

I have been using Sandpit nursery since 2012, both of my children have been cared for here. The nursery staff have looked after my children with the care and dedication that parents expect.
