Children 1st @ Sheffield is judged to be 'Outstanding in all Areas' by Ofsted (February 2018) and is located within easy reach of Sheffield city centre. It has been refurbished to offer a bright and spacious learning environment for children aged from birth to five years.

A dedicated and enthusiastic team of early years staff are fully trained and experienced to support the children's healthy growth and development. The nursery has high staff-to-child ratios to ensure each child receives high-quality care.

The age-appropriate rooms have 'free-flow' access to a spacious outdoor garden which has designed to maximise the potential for outdoor play in all weather conditions.

The nursery also provides plenty of extra learning opportunities including Funky Feet dance classes for children aged between two and five years and a sports skills class with Sheffield Wednesday community coaches.

Children 1st @ Sheffield also operates an 'out of school' club for children up to twelve years of age and offers fully grant funded places for children aged three and four years.

I think the Children's 1st staff have been taking a good care of my daughter since she was 8 months old. She fell into the good eating habits and also learnt how to speak politely. The nursery focuses on the mental development of the children via different activities like colouring, painting, messy
play etc which gives the children more to explore and learn.
They have taken a good care of my daughter by making sure she's comfortably dressed and her nappy is changed regularly. At times if she was ill or tired, I would let the nursery staff know and they always made sure to give her the rest or comfort she needed. The nursery always informed me immediately to let me know of any incidents happened / if my daughter was ill so that I can take necessary steps immediately.
I am very happy with the nursery and I would recommend it to my friends.

Both of my children attended this nursery from six months. I have a five year age gap between my children and it was a relief to see the same staff when my second child began attending. The baby facility is just like home, the care and provision is first class- every day. The staff are experienced,
many are parents themselves and so they understand how to warmly welcome the children each day, how to entertain and nurture.
As a parent, I have learnt so much about each stage of their development- feeling reassured that my children are progressing well. Each day brings a new adventure and it is a pleasure to see updates on their electronic learning diary.
My daughter has several allergies and I was impressed at how well her individual needs were catered for every day. I have always recommended this nursery to friends and family.
The care is outstanding and it so reassuring to know that the children are thriving and enjoying their own day.

Both my husband and I spent a lot of time researching a nursery for our daughter and decided on Children 1st @ Sheffield. We are in total agreement Children 1st @ Sheffield was the right choice as our daughter has progressed emotionally, physically and socially since starting here and we are so proud
of the little lady she is becoming.


Our daughter started nursery at an early age due to work commitments and we were concerned that she was too young to attend a nursery however the staff were and have continued to be very supportive not only of our daughter but to ourselves. All the staff are very friendly and attentive to every child and parents and strive to help the children grow mentally and physically.


Words do not really justify how pleased we are with Children 1st @ Sheffield and we will continue to recommend to everyone we know.

I am so happy that we picked this nursery for our baby. The staff are all extremely friendly and my baby is completely infatuated with his key worker! It makes me feel so much less guilty going to work when I know how much he is enjoying himself. I love all the updates we get from the eyLog app - it's
wonderful being at work and seeing a video of him having fun. There is also a lot of detail about his day written in his diary, and always a nice chat about how he's been when we go to pick him up. They are extremely good at taking extra care when he has been poorly. The room always looks clean, well cared for, and with so much fun stuff to do. Some of the ideas for different sensory experiences are really clever. I have already recommended this nursery to friends and will continue to do so.

After a bad experience with another nursery, I moved my daughter to Children 1st. From the first settling visit, it has been amazing and now, 14 months on, my shy daughter who barely talked is a confident girl who is now above average with her speech. Routines are in place and stuck to so she always
knows her plan for the day. Funky feet (an in-house extra activity) is the highlight of her week. You are always greeted with a smile and all the staff genuinely love and care for her like she's a family member. I can't recommend enough.

Staff are very friendly and supportive, especially when my daughter is a little tearful and not wanting me to leave, and so gives me great peace of mind knowing she is in very good hands. Since starting at Breedon House, my daughter has come on in leaps and bounds, she has really come out of her shell

My daughter started nursery in December 2014, since then she has become a more sociable and confident child. The staff are continually supportive to both me and my daughter. They are welcoming, patient and encouraging. I would not hesitate to recommend Breedon House to friends and family. There are
lots to keep my child busy from painting outside and lots lots more.

My son attended this nursery for 4 years, 4 days a week. During this time the nursery and staff have excelled and gone above and beyond to care for my child and support my family; to name just a few scenarios:
Preparing dairy free meals when my son was between 6/18 months.
Supporting home life discipline,
reinforcement and discipline. Provided me with with same time out mat. when my son was 42/48 months.
Helping reducing childhood fears by making a dream catcher.
Helping with logistics inside the building following the birth of twin siblings.

Both of our children attend Breedon House and both thoroughly enjoy it. Their own personal confidence has increased dramatically since attending and their academic journey has been well funded and improves week on week.
My son is due to start school full time in September and is well prepared and ready
to start.
The grounds at Breedon House are wonderful and the girls get the most from them.

We love this nursery and can't imagine sending our children anywhere else - all the staff are fantastic, caring, engaging. Both children are thriving at nursery and really enjoy their time there. The facilities are excellent, as is the attention to detail and the variety of activities on offer.

Children 1st are a fantastic nursery. Both of my children have attended this nursery over the past 5 years.
They are welcoming to the parents and succeed in being as helpful as possible with any queries or issues.
Most importantly, they are so attentive to the children, treating them with love,
care and respect. I have never had any worries or concerns about leaving my children in their care. I recommend them wholeheartedly.

As a first time mummy going back to work, I was very nervous and hated the thought of leaving my little baby boy at just eight months old but Children 1st were fantastic. They reassured me and were supportive. The staff are always happy to see him and he loves nursery. My son is now nearly two and has
an amazing key worker and learns so much there. I would recommend this nursery without a doubt.

Sending your child to nursery is very difficult for any parent, however the staff at Children 1st Sheffield have managed this transition with ease. The staff are always helpful and really know your child. Our little ones development has come on in leaps and bounds since joining. I would recommend the

Leaving my only child at nursery for the first time was a very daunting prospect, despite having researched several nurseries and picking Children 1st @ Breedon House as the best, that first day was terrifying. However, the staff were fantastic, they welcomed my daughter with kindness, provided reassurance
to me and were not judgemental when I phoned to see how she was. The daily information we get in her diary and updated on the EY log allow us to feel in touch with her despite being at work. She is growing in confidence and her willingness to try new things is amazing and we thank the staff for their encouragement. I can't recommend this nursery enough. Thank you Children 1st for taking such good care of our most precious thing!

My little one has attended children 1st from 9 months. From the time she started until now she has gained so much confidence, self awareness and has gained an understanding of other people's lives and cultures that myself alone couldn't have given her! During each room she has had amazing key workers
who have treated her as an individual and have all loved and gained her trust which has made it easy for me to leave her knowing she is well cared for and having lots of fun whilst I'm at work! I've never been so proud as I was when my little shy girl took part in the nativity at Christmas this was a truly remarkable achievement for her and the staff which I am eternally grateful for! Thoroughly recommend this nursery!

Job Title: Manager - Early Years

My Name is Deborah Thorne and I am the Early Years Nursery Manager for Children 1st @ Sheffield.


I have been working with children since the age of 16. I qualified as a Nursery Nurse in 1993 gaining my N.N.E.B Diploma in Nursery Nursing.


I then worked as a nanny for almost 2 years having sole charge of two boys Edward and Thomas who are now 19 and 21.


I started work for Children 1st Day Nurseries in May 1996 when they purchased the nursery that I was currently working in. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to grow with the Nursery right from day one and have gained a vast amount of experience. I have worked my way up from Nursery Nurse opening the baby unit, to Room Leader then to Deputy Manager and finally on to Nursery Manager in 2000. I have worked with all ages of children and enjoy the challenges that working with different aged children bring but I especially love the Early Years age group and this has been my area of specialism for a number of years.


While I have been with Children 1st I have managed the Newark Nursery for 6 months working with the team and the new Nursery Manager to build up occupancy levels. I then managed St Peters and St Paul Nursery for 2 1/2 years which I really enjoyed as this took me out of my comfort zone and I grew in confidence and was able to develop my own skills. I then came back to the Sheffield Nursery (home) in May 2009 were I have resumed my role as Nursery Manager for the Peter Rabbits and Early Years.


Through my role as Nursery Manager I have worked with diverse cultures and families with different needs and expectations, this has given me the tools to enable me to meet their different needs and make a real difference to children's lives, one of my passions is to be able to offer high quality childcare for ALL children regardless of their status.


My role as Nursery Manager also enables me to work with children with Special Education Needs (SEN) and become a linchpin with families and other members of my Nursery Team, giving our children the best start to their nursery education regardless of their abilities or needs.


I have also built a strong team who I work very closely with and feel I am a good role model to all staff members. I am a qualified NVQ Assessor and gained my Level 4 in Childcare and Education, I enjoy this very much and hope to continue to support all the trainee Nursery Nurses that train with us.


I became a Nursery Manager by chance as I had no desire to become one, I was more than happy being a Nursery Nurse and enjoyed the role as key worker to my children but through a passion for my work and the investment of Margaret I was encouraged to move up the ladder. I enjoy the challenges that being a Nursery Manager brings and feel that over the last 15 years that I have worked for Children 1st Day Nurseries I have gained so much and been able to give so much back.


I believe in the ethos of Children 1st Day Nurseries and am fully committed to our mission statement of: ‘Leading the way, shaping the future’ and providing high quality day care and education, my role as a Nursery Manager enables me to ensure that the children who use our setting are receiving the very best and I can ensure the quality is there all of the time this is why I have stayed with Children 1st Day Nurseries and will continue to stay until I am old and grey (if you let me)


I like lots of things about Children 1st Day Nurseries - the dedication to our small babies that we insist on, the quality environments, the sleeping outside in proper prams, the play experiences that the teams offer, the drive and passion of our teams and the on going commitment that we have to achieving the best that we can be.


I always feel proud when I attend outside training events as I know that out provision is up there with the best.


I hope I inspire other Nursery Nurses to be passionate and proud of the work that we do, and encourage new families to make that brave first step of bringing their children to nursery for the first time to start the education of their children.
