Children 1st @ Sheffield is judged to be 'Outstanding in all Areas' by Ofsted (February 2018) and is located within easy reach of Sheffield city centre. It has been refurbished to offer a bright and spacious learning environment for children aged from birth to five years.

A dedicated and enthusiastic team of early years staff are fully trained and experienced to support the children's healthy growth and development. The nursery has high staff-to-child ratios to ensure each child receives high-quality care.

The age-appropriate rooms have 'free-flow' access to a spacious outdoor garden which has designed to maximise the potential for outdoor play in all weather conditions.

The nursery also provides plenty of extra learning opportunities including Funky Feet dance classes for children aged between two and five years and a sports skills class with Sheffield Wednesday community coaches.

Children 1st @ Sheffield also operates an 'out of school' club for children up to twelve years of age and offers fully grant funded places for children aged three and four years.

My eldest son goes to this nursery. He loves it. The staff are amazing, and they go above and beyond to make sure that the children which go to the nursery do meet the targets. As a mother, which struggles with her children, this nursery has helped me gain confidence. They helped my eldest son to gain
his confidence with his potty training. They also give the best tips. The staff are just amazing. I couldn't recommend this nursery enough. Also, the system which they have in place so that the parents are kept up to date with the children's goals and so that we know what our children are up to is just amazing. My son loves going. He just goes in with no problem.

Everything about this nursery is amazing! From my daughter's first day to today, she’s always happy when she goes and happy when she comes out! I have seen how much she has gained from attending, from already knowing 1-10 and the alphabet to singing her favourite songs! I’ve only been inside the nursery
a handful of times because of Covid, but every time I’ve been in, the staff have been very friendly, kind, helpful, and my daughter loves them. The two rooms my daughter has been in have been well equipped and looked like they could be great fun! Thanks, Children 1st for what you do for us! Keep up the great work!

I can not fault this nursery!
My little boy is so happy here and has been ever since he started at 3-months-old.
The staff are attentive and kind, he learns new things every day and can't wait to come home and show us.

I'm so grateful for this nursery, my niece and nephew used to go here years ago and I remember picking them up and thinking it was great for babies and toddlers, so much to do inside and outdoors. My daughter loves it and has been going since 2020.
The girls are lovely and very welcoming,
After losing
my daughter's dad in 2020 I haven't been able to trust anyone but the girls have really helped me and supported me with extra hours or changing days when I needed them. I will be very sad when my daughter has to leave.

I can't praise enough the staff and management of this nursery. From day one, they made all efforts, so my daughter can adjust easily, and she did. She goes in and gets out with a smile on her face. We get updates and photos of her activities. She's also improved her speech a lot, which was an issue
when my daughter first signed in. On Christmas, the nursery staff went over the moon and back to set up a Nativity play, and it was amazing! I highly recommend this nursery!

My daughter loves the nursery. She is ever so kept in the morning to go in.
The staff are so nice and kind, always supportive. The nursery offers a range of activities and fun days such as a princess and pirate week, etc.
They provide an app where they post updates about what kids do, pictures, videos,
and I can track the progress of my child's development.
Highly recommended to any parent.

My daughter has attended Children 1st @ Sheffield since July 2020 (aged 1) and has always loved going each morning. She has always been excited to see her friends and key worker and is always well stimulated and entertained by the varied activities she takes part in each day. The staff are always extremely
caring and have been absolutely brilliant throughout the pandemic. They are very dedicated and know each of the children - even if they are working in different rooms. The rooms are all exceptionally bright, well resourced and have a lovely warm, comfortable atmosphere. The outside area is brilliant, spacious and a real favourite with my daughter and her friends.
We really enjoy receiving daily updates and frequent observations - including pictures - through the app.
I would certainly recommend the nursery to other parents - they have been brilliant!

We love this nursery. My little girl is always happy to go to nursery and sometimes asks to go to nursery again on her way home from nursery. The staff are all fantastic and seem to really care. They have always been really helpful when we’ve asked about anything during her time there (weaning, bottles,
potty training). I recommend this nursery to anyone who asks me!

I would not want to leave my daughter anywhere else! The nursery seems to have very high standards, with the rooms being bright, clean and welcoming. The nursery is constantly making improvements and has recently made new developments to its outside area. There is such a range of activities, that I
feel my daughter is well entertained and stimulated. I feel that by attending this nursery, will give my daughter a good start in life. The staff are also amazing! The keyworker shows genuine care and love for my daughter and is involved in her play, whether it's helping her read books or play peekaboo. I enjoy reading the 'daily diary' from the nursery, which gives me added reassurance and helps me keep track of my child's progress. I could not recommend this nursery enough!

We are lucky enough to have had both our daughters at this nursery. We cannot speak highly enough of the entire team including management, key workers, chefs and maintenance. Our eldest daughter is at school now but still talks about loving nursery! The creative, nurturing and educational environment
is second to none. I would not hesitate to recommend this nursery to any parent.

I am always reassured and impressed by the staff at nursery. They know my son so well and they’re great at updating us so we can see he is having a great time. They have a clear grip on his development and continue to challenge him which is great! The team are super friendly and carry out a variety

My son is not a type of kid who enjoys new atmosphere very easily but the way this nursery has accepted my kid and treated him with encouraging words and shared the love he needs to start enjoying the nursery has really made me proud for choosing the right place for him. With so many supporting staff
members to take good care of the kids, what surprises me the most is that each one of them knows my son's name, rather they know every kids name and it feels nice. The updates they give regarding how the day went, what activities my kid was involved with and the food he had makes us feel very happy. Thanks to such a wonderful facility.

We have had an amazing experience since our son started at this nursery in January 2021. The staff are all so friendly, professional and always make an effort! Our son loves going to nursery and we feel really safe and reassured knowing he is somewhere so brilliant! Would highly recommend.

Very caring staff who helped my little one settle in from 11 months. The staff have been attentive and supportive to her needs, and have really got to know her personality. There are lots of fun activities, and the staff take the time to provide a diverse experience. Very well organised and I completely

Excellent place for our son. All staff are very professional from the way they look after the kids, the way they handle communication with us parents at all time. The staff are very friendly and this is felt with the relations they build with our son, but this is obvious with all the kids in general.
They spend a lot of time with the kids, and as our son spend 5 days there, we see the progress he is able to make with them and this is very appreciated.
The facilities indoor/outdoor are ideal for all age.
Food is good quality varied nutritious meal cooked fresh every day.
We appreciated the efforts made during the after lockdown and it works well.

I can’t recommend Children 1st at Sheffield highly enough. The staff are wonderful and my son loved them all. Staff are so very kind and genuinely care for the children. My son has just left to go to primary school and the staff at nursery helped him so much to improve his confidence and develop his
skills.
Every single person there was friendly and welcoming. The menus were great and they helped my son to develop a more varied palate.
Overall, a brilliant nursery!

My daughter attended Children 1st between 2014 and 2018 and we couldn’t have been happier with the provision. Having chosen a different nursery for my son, closer to home, we made the decision to move him to Children 1st in September 2020 because other all of the other provisions we looked into including
the other nursery he had attended were not a patch on Children 1st. He has settled really quickly, is very happy and so well cared for here. We have definitely made the right choice. I would recommend this nursery to anyone looking for somewhere that is nurturing and stimulating and where the care the children receive is second the none. We are very happy.

We love Children 1st and all of the staff! My daughter is always happy to go to nursery and looks forward to seeing her key worker and friends. They look after her really well and as a parent, I feel very comfortable and happy to have my daughter in their care. My daughter is 2 and half and it’s great
to track her development on the EY app. We’ve been with Children 1st for almost 2 years, and there’s little staff turnover so that’s been a real plus for parents and children alike. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Children 1st to anyone who is looking for a nursery in the city centre.

My Name is Deborah Thorne and I am the Early Years Nursery Manager for Children 1st @ Sheffield.


I have been working with children since the age of 16. I qualified as a Nursery Nurse in 1993 gaining my N.N.E.B Diploma in Nursery Nursing.


I then worked as a nanny for almost 2 years having sole charge of two boys Edward and Thomas who are now 19 and 21.


I started work for Children 1st Day Nurseries in May 1996 when they purchased the nursery that I was currently working in. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to grow with the Nursery right from day one and have gained a vast amount of experience. I have worked my way up from Nursery Nurse opening the baby unit, to Room Leader then to Deputy Manager and finally on to Nursery Manager in 2000. I have worked with all ages of children and enjoy the challenges that working with different aged children bring but I especially love the Early Years age group and this has been my area of specialism for a number of years.


While I have been with Children 1st I have managed the Newark Nursery for 6 months working with the team and the new Nursery Manager to build up occupancy levels. I then managed St Peters and St Paul Nursery for 2 1/2 years which I really enjoyed as this took me out of my comfort zone and I grew in confidence and was able to develop my own skills. I then came back to the Sheffield Nursery (home) in May 2009 were I have resumed my role as Nursery Manager for the Peter Rabbits and Early Years.


Through my role as Nursery Manager I have worked with diverse cultures and families with different needs and expectations, this has given me the tools to enable me to meet their different needs and make a real difference to children's lives, one of my passions is to be able to offer high quality childcare for ALL children regardless of their status.


My role as Nursery Manager also enables me to work with children with Special Education Needs (SEN) and become a linchpin with families and other members of my Nursery Team, giving our children the best start to their nursery education regardless of their abilities or needs.


I have also built a strong team who I work very closely with and feel I am a good role model to all staff members. I am a qualified NVQ Assessor and gained my Level 4 in Childcare and Education, I enjoy this very much and hope to continue to support all the trainee Nursery Nurses that train with us.


I became a Nursery Manager by chance as I had no desire to become one, I was more than happy being a Nursery Nurse and enjoyed the role as key worker to my children but through a passion for my work and the investment of Margaret I was encouraged to move up the ladder. I enjoy the challenges that being a Nursery Manager brings and feel that over the last 15 years that I have worked for Children 1st Day Nurseries I have gained so much and been able to give so much back.


I believe in the ethos of Children 1st Day Nurseries and am fully committed to our mission statement of: ‘Leading the way, shaping the future’ and providing high quality day care and education, my role as a Nursery Manager enables me to ensure that the children who use our setting are receiving the very best and I can ensure the quality is there all of the time this is why I have stayed with Children 1st Day Nurseries and will continue to stay until I am old and grey (if you let me)


I like lots of things about Children 1st Day Nurseries - the dedication to our small babies that we insist on, the quality environments, the sleeping outside in proper prams, the play experiences that the teams offer, the drive and passion of our teams and the on going commitment that we have to achieving the best that we can be.


I always feel proud when I attend outside training events as I know that out provision is up there with the best.


I hope I inspire other Nursery Nurses to be passionate and proud of the work that we do, and encourage new families to make that brave first step of bringing their children to nursery for the first time to start the education of their children.
