What a Hoot Bedlington is a private day nursery with huge amounts of space. It has three bespoke rooms that have all been designed to specifically suit the age stages of the children that attend.

The nursery has a baby room which allows the babies to gain great exposure to sensory media in the form of lights, bubbles and sounds. The room also has a nice half and half feel to it as the floor is half carpet and half laminate flooring. This is to allow the babies to have a cosy area where they can sit, sleep and practice tummy time but also have an area where they can explore messier materials and enjoy meal times.

The 2 year room is designed to help children become more independent and communicative. It also has its very own separate sleep time area for the children to have safe sleeps and are well rested!         

In the preschool room at What a Hoot, the children feel included in all decisions and are given great amounts of praise, independence and are able to express opinions and individuality to set them up perfectly for their next journey to school. The room is also free flow to the outdoor area, which allows children to choose where they would like to play, learn and explore throughout the day.         

What a Hoot prides itself on having its own kitchen which the management team use to cook fresh and healthy meals every day. The meals are made to ensure there is the perfect balanced diet being served to the children and are incorporating foods which are full of nutrients. Parents are always involved in what meals are included on the nursery's menus as What a Hoot love to hear what children like to eat at home.

The nursery has one apprentice and 8 nursery practitioners that are all level three qualified and above. They are also all qualified first aiders and can skilfully use this to help the children who are unwell or injured.

I'm overall really happy with What a Hoot Bedlington nursery. Their use of the app is great for communication when needed, finding out about activities going on and also eating habits. The feedback is also good at drop-off and pickup times and the times are flexible to help around work. As a child
of lockdown, I've been constantly worried about my son's social development, but it gives me comfort to see that he's happy to go every day and seems to be coming out of his shell bit by bit with the help of the staff there.
If there was any criticism, it would be the way billing is done through the app. It does seem very inflexible, but I gather from what I'm told that is more about how the app works.
The staff there have always been courteous and good communicators, and any issues that have arisen have been dealt with well. Again, overall really happy with What a Hoot Bedlington.

Both of my boys have attended this nursery since they were about 10 months. My eldest is starting school in September and will be staying here as they offer really helpful out of school care with pick up and drop offs to the local first/primary schools! I have nothing but praise for this little nursery!
The staff really do care about my boys and have been instrumental in bringing them along with learning, development and general social skills. The flexibility of attendance arrangements is unique to the area and great for shift work, term time and just generally heading off on family holidays. It basically can save you a fortune compared with other inflexible establishments! My boys are very happy here and never want to leave at the end of the day!

Childcare is a huge passion of mine and I have gained over 8 years experience, working with children from the ages of 3 months to 5 years old.


I love watching each individual child gain their very own personality, independence and skills set. Being the first step in a child's educational journey is hugely rewarding, which is why I am passionate about providing the best learning opportunities for our What a Hoot children.

I am the Deputy Manager at What a Hoot and I have worked here for the past 4 years. I have got over 9 years experience working in early years and love every part of it.

Hi, my name is Leanne and I am the senior nursery practitioner at What a Hoot in Bedlington. I am room based and spend most of my time in the 2 year old's room, but enjoy spending time with the babies and in preschool too!


I started my career as a level 3 teaching assistant at a primary school in Blyth, almost 13 years ago.


Since moving to What a Hoot, I instantly knew this was the job for me. The children and staff welcomed me with open arms! The children put a huge smile on my face each day and surprise me with many moments where I feel massive amounts of pride as they do something new for the first time.
