Amazing nursery, my son loves it here so much. The staff are outstanding and the activities they provide keep my son busy and entertained. His learning has come on so much from attending this setting. He has made some wonderful friends and is so eager to go to nursery. He also loves the meals provided
and eats more here than he does at home!

My son has been at Ghyll Royd preschool for nine months. It is a fantastic setting with beautiful grounds and plenty of outside space to play. The staff are wonderful and have created a friendly and nurturing environment. He can be a shy child but his confidence has improved significantly. He particularly
loves the weekly welly walks and music lessons coming out beaming and happy at the end of each day. Highly recommend this preschool.

The nursery and pre-school at Ghyll Royd is a very nurturing environment where little ones can really thrive. Both my children have attended. Staff are so caring and attentive, it’s like an extension of your family. The children have the greatest journey with varied activities, wonderful outdoor spaces
and they can’t wait to go each day.

Our daughter attended Great Explorers for the summer term to help the transition to start reception in September. We were amazed at how quickly she settled and became a part of the school. The resources and access to the wonderful grounds are second to none. She has loved going on weekly trips out in
the minibus, the varied activities linked to topics and the free play in the fantastic setting. Ballet, music, art and gym have further added to an already packed activity plan! The specialist staff are friendly and approachable and really get to know each child. Chef produces yummy and nutritional meals, fresh each day. We cannot praise enough.

5 star pre-school. My son (now 10) started this pre-school at 2 years old and followed through into the Key Stage 1 and 2 years. He is currently preparing for secondary school entrance examinations. My daughter (2 years old) only started in February 2017 but has settled immediately. The staff and provisions
at Ghyll Royd Pre-school and School are unbelievable. Always going the extra mile for every child. Keep up the fantastic work and THANK YOU!

My son has now been attending Ghyll Royd school for over a year, since his second birthday. He absolutely loves it and can't wait to go and doesn't ever want to come home!
I can't say how wonderful the nursery and staff are. My son is cared for as if he were the staffs own with lots of cuddles and
kisses and it's a pleasure to go and see how much he's enjoyed his time there.
I would recommend without a doubt this nursery/ school to anyone.

My son was a very quiet and timid two-year-old when he started at Ghyll Royd. He was a late speaker so we had concerns about him. He is now a confident and chatty four-year-old. He settled very quickly into the nursery and made lots of friends. He loves being in the great outdoors so this nursery/pre-school
is perfect as they have a lot of outdoor space. He especially enjoys going on welly walks and attending music and PE. He is looking forward to starting Reception in September.

We are delighted with the choice we made sending our children to Ghyll Royd Pre-School! It is such a happy, friendly environment where the children are nurtured, encouraged enormously allowing them to grow into confident, happy individuals. They each skip into school each day and can't wait to tell
everyone about the fun things they have been learning about both in the classroom environment and within the fantastic outdoor facilities that the school offers.

Both of my children attended Ghyll Royd Nursery and Pre-School and loved their time here. The personal care and attention that the children receive from the staff is to be commended. My eldest was often unsettled and unsure but grew in confidence as the staff helped to reassure him until he looked forward
to going. They enjoyed their time at Ghyll Royd taking part in trips, forest walks, PE, Music and the Christmas nativity and particularly liked the Pre-School's approach to outdoor play - getting outside regardless of the weather! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ghyll Royd. It is a fabulous place with wonderful caring staff who nurture happy confident children.

My daughter loves arriving at pre-school in the mornings, eager to find out what exciting activities are planned for the day. The staff use the outdoors wonderfully well, letting the children explore their own environment and building their independence. She loves the specialist Music, PE and Art sessions
and loves being in the woods within the grounds.

We arranged to visit Ghyll Royd after deciding to move our son from his previous nursery. From the moment we made contact with Ghyll Royd Pre-School the communication and service was absolutely excellent. We were invited to visit the school, meet the staff and explore the facilities - there was no rush
and no pressure. Our son went for a taster session and enjoyed it so much that we got him started straight away. In my opinion, Little Adventurers and Great Explorers combine an excellent balance of 'nursery' and 'school'. The children are learning through play yet also are given structure which allows them to explore their potential. Small class sizes mean children are given much more time and support than one would find in a large provider. We are so happy we made the decision to send our little boy to Ghyll Royd.

My daughter currently attends Ghyll Royd Pre-School and loves it there. She is extremely happy. She previously attended another nursery and we have watched her flourish since starting at Ghyll Royd. Being part of a class from such a young age (in contrast to a room at a nursery which the children move
out of at different times) has allowed her to develop strong friendships and her confidence has blossomed. All the staff throughout the school know the children by name, they are warm and friendly and make the children feel comfortable, secure and safe. The small class sizes mean that the pre-school staff know each child particularly well and can give them the individual attention that they deserve. I have looked around all the other nurseries in our location (twice) and can safely say that no other offers the same resources as Ghyll Royd. No other nursery offers three large playgrounds, playing fields, woods, sports hall, brilliant specialist music teacher and a minibus for trips.

My little boy started Ghyll Royd Pre-School in September 2016, following in his sister's footsteps (she's now in Form 1). My little boy is so happy here and has made substantial developments since September - his speech has improved, his knowledge of numbers and colours, and general awareness of what
is going on around him and being able to comment on things. Ghyll Royd Pre-School offers a wonderful setting with extensive outdoor grounds for the children to explore and my son has been on various trips which he has thoroughly enjoyed. The staff are excellent and offer a unique family environment whereby each child is special and treated as such. All the children in the school seem to know each other and old or young they mix very well. I would not hesitate to recommend Ghyll Royd Pre-School to anyone.

My children spent 2 very happy years at this nursery, giving them a good grounding for Reception.

What a lovely, caring nursery. They learnt all the key phonics, how to write their name and numbers as well as having lots of fun.

They also went on some very exciting school trips which they adored.

I

felt my children were very safe and cared for at this nursery, they never said anything negative about it and attended 3 times a week.

'In Loco Parentis' is certainly one of the phrases I would use to describe the care my son has experienced at Ghyll Royd.
Having happily attended a different nursery for 18 months, it was not without careful consideration that we decided to move our 2 and a half year old to Ghyll Royd. I have no hesitation
in saying that this was definitely the right move for our child. He has settled in incredibly well and attends two full days a week. If he had his way, I am sure he would attend more! It is a pleasure to witness the eagerness and excitement on his face in a morning as he proudly dons his uniform and chatters away about what he hopes to do at nursery that day. I believe the key to the Nursery's success is down to the fact that the children are allowed to be individuals. They are encouraged to engage in a variety of activities everyday from playing with different types of toys, constructing things from lego and play doh, having quiet time, reading stories, participating in role play, painting and crafts to name just a few. He was even given the opportunity to have a real PE lesson with specialised staff. He proudly came home to tell me how he had learned to catch and skip! The real bonus that my son benefits from is the unique outdoor space that Ghyll Royd offers and the fact that children are allowed to go out in their wellies and waterproofs. (Bad weather is no longer a barrier to fun and learning!) This allows independent supervised play in the nature garden outside and the use of bikes, scooters etc. It also allows staff to explore the 'great outdoors' with the children. In the last two weeks my son has participated in two separate nature walks around the school grounds with staff who took the time to collect leaves and stop and explain answers to any questions he had about things he saw. The staff are able to dedicate time to each child and get to know them which ultimately gives me peace of mind when I leave him in a morning, as I know he will be well cared for and listened to. My son can be quite reserved before getting to know people, yet this hasn't been a problem. Staff have encouraged him to join in with activities and he has been given responsibility by being allowed to 'help' with little jobs which he loves. His routine has been maintained, providing him with the opportunity to nap during the day. He has also really enjoyed the school menu which offers the opportunity to dine at a table in small groups - just like being at home! Communication between nursery and home has also been excellent and staff take the time to document in writing, verbally and via photos that are sent home what he has been doing that day. In summary, I could not speak more highly of Ghyll Royd's Nursery and would highly recommend.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.250)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.250) out of 10 for Ghyll Royd Pre-School and Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.750 for Ghyll Royd Pre-School and Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (46 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.75

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ghyll Royd Pre-School and Nursery is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 22 number of registered child places is 4.4, which has been reached with 5 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
