Puddleducks Children's Nursery is rated Outstanding by Ofsted March 2019 and is a multi award winning nursery having been placed in the top 10 nurseries in Yorkshire in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The nursery is owned by an ambitious, experienced primary school teacher. She opened the nursery in 2012, when she had been searching for a nursery for her own little boy. Using her vision and values as a qualified teacher and parent, she created a nursery where every individual baby and child receives unrivalled care. An exceptional curriculum is in place, which ensures children receive a challenging learning experience that prepares them exceptionally well for school.

What is immediately evident is the owner's exceptionally high expectations and drive for the highest standards. The fantastic environment is best appreciated in person.

Puddleducks is conveniently located and easily accessible from many surrounding villages, and on the main commuter route to York for many rural residents.

My daughter has been at Puddleducks for almost a year now, she has quite complex health problems, the main one being a heart condition, this stunts her appetite which the girls go above and beyond to entice and even at one point made her special meals so she would eat! The care the girls give my daughter
is overwhelming, I feel like they understand exactly what we have been through as a family. My little girl has just had her second open heart surgery three weeks ago and Puddleducks stayed in contact throughout - asking after her. She is back at nursery now and I trust them with my whole heart to do the very best for my daughter - just like I would.
So grateful to have found this nursery.

Our daughter is in the baby room and had been since she was 6-months-old. From day 1, Puddleducks have provided an extremely nurturing and caring environment. It has been wonderful to watch her grow with confidence and character and that is down to the staff at Puddleducks treating the children as individuals
and providing such a fun and loving environment.
The communication is exceptional with parents as well as their flexibility towards understanding working parents.
As soon as we visited Puddleducks, met the manager and got a feel for the nursery environment and ethos we knew it was the right place.

My 11-month-old daughter has been attending Puddleducks for the last 5 months. We have been so pleased with our decision to choose this nursery for several reasons including the outstanding care that is provided to our child, the varied nutritious meals and the friendliness of the staff and overall
nursery environment. We also particularly like the environmentally friendly approach with the toys used in the nursery and have even found ourselves using normal day to day objects at home to entertain her rather than the classic plastic toys. I would highly recommend this nursery to any current or future parents.

Both of my (clingy) girls absolutely adore coming into Puddleducks twice a week and refer to their key workers (and other members of staff) as their ‘best friends.’
Their very different personalities have been catered for when approaching how they settle in across all 3 rooms and the oldest is currently
thriving in pre-school and looking forward to the transition into ‘big school’ next year.
The curiosity approach taken across the nursery has encouraged both girls to play differently at home, which is a real testament to the way of thinking taken by Puddleducks. I love hearing them come home and talk with such enthusiasm about the activities and themes they have been working on.
The food follows the same high quality with both girls eating with gusto multiple plates of flavours they wouldn’t touch at home!
We have just had baby number 3 and will not hesitate to share him with the manager and all her staff when the time comes.

Puddleducks is an excellent environment for our son to learn and discover the world around him. He really enjoys going in the morning and always has a great fun-filled action-packed day of excitement. He always has a hug for his key worker on arrival so we know he’s happy to be there. We very rarely
get a wave goodbye from him as he’s off exploring what’s new that day as soon as he enters the room. We’re confident that he’s being cared for in the best place by the best people we could ever wish for.

I can't praise Puddleducks enough for all the care, love and opportunities they have given my youngest girl since she joined their toddler room. My eldest daughter also attended from the baby room through to preschool, since then the nursery has strived even more and I was delighted to see they were
awarded their Outstanding grade from Ofsted. My child talks non stop about the staff and what she has been doing that day, she comes home with baking, crafts and plenty of washing so I know she's been busy that day! We know all the staff, most of the staff are still there since we first joined in 2013. They are always welcoming, happy and helpful. My daughter loves the food there, she has several portions and the 2 cooks make the most amazing homemade dishes. The nursery is working towards their 'curiosity approach' accreditation, I absolutely love this idea and the theory behind it. As a family, we have noticed the impact on our child's learning and how she has started to play at home.

My daughter absolutely loves Puddleducks. She has been at the nursery for nearly three years and it’s safe to say it’s her home from home. When I decided to go back to work full time I was only going to do so when I knew that my daughter was completely settled and happy and she is very much so here.
It has such a fun, loving and nurturing environment and my daughter is always so excited to tell me what she has been doing each day when I pick her up. The staff are just wonderful and so engaged and my daughter has developed some really special bonds with them, particularly her key workers. The nursery management are always supportive and do anything they can to help. They always listen to parents suggestions and I have now run out of ideas to include on the feedback forms as they have followed them all up! I honestly can’t recommend this nursery more highly.

I have the pleasure of collecting my grandchild from this wonderful, happy place! The staff are friendly and welcoming, my grandchild has always had the most wonderful time and always looks forward to attending the next day. I am delighted at the efforts the staff go to, to ensure that standards of

After moving away from our home town to the local area, myself and my partner were desperate to find the perfect nursery for our little boy. There were two nurseys that we wanted to look at, Puddleducks being one of them and in the end, it was the only one we looked at. We knew from the moment that
a member of staff showed us around that it was the right nursery for us.
Our little boy settled in quickly and was well supported with the adjustment to his daily routine. As a mother, my mind was at ease leaving him at nursery, I was told that I could call for updates as and when I needed to. (I no longer feel the need to do this as I know my little boy is having the best time)
The range of activities that Puddleducks carry out with the children is outstanding and the weekly menus are great! My little boy always comes back from nursery happy and sleepy (Makes bedtime a delight).
I am so happy we found Puddleducks, they have changed our lives - thank you for caring and keeping our little boy safe!

Puddleducks is a real home from home. When we were shown around we were impressed with the facilities and how happy the children and staff were! Before starting nursery our little boy hadn't been looked after by anyone other than close family so he took a while to settle. All of the staff were so reassuring
and they really do make time to talk to you about your son or daughter as if they were their own.
Going into the nursery you will always get a warm welcome and a takeaway breakfast if needed! What makes a real difference is that the staff greet your little one by their name.
As a parent, you are kept very well informed. Daily records of what your child has been doing allow you to see, for instance, when they have napped and activities they have been involved in. Weekly newsletters update you with what has been happening and the learning that has taken place and open evenings have been a great way to meet other parents and learn about provisions.
I recommend Puddleducks!

My daughter has been attending Puddleducks since she was 9 months old. She is about to start school and she has been prepared and supported to make sure she is ready. My daughter talks positively about the nursery and in return, the staff have always been keen to talk about how she is doing and they
always have time for me. My daughter's language and social interaction has come on in leaps and bounds as she is encouraged to play, share, talk and listen and her literacy and numeracy skills are nurtured and encouraged. On days where my daughter has been under the weather or emotional, she has been reassured and cuddled, meaning I don’t worry about her when at work and I stay in regular contact with nursery if needed. Parents evenings and information sharing is excellent and our feedback is always taken into consideration. Although my daughter’s time is coming to an end at Puddleducks, I am pleased and excited for my younger daughter to start in September and I know she will have the same wonderful experience as her big sister did.

I cannot thank Puddleducks staff enough for how they have settled our little lady in at nursery. She was just over 3 months when she started coming, and her sisters and I were extremely nervous at leaving her at such a young age. She has settled brilliantly and they already know her so well. Every time
we pick her up she seems totally content and even goes on little walks around the village which I think is really sweet.
I love the little book and log of what she has done, what she has eaten, and when she has slept which really helps when we get home and I am planning the rest of her day. Thank you to the manager and the team.

Absolutely love Puddleducks! My child is so, so happy here. He is well looked after, the food is amazing and delicious and he has developed so very much in the time he has been at Puddleducks. What I truly love at Puddleducks is it genuinely feels like I’m leaving my child with family. All the staff
are so caring and considerate of my child and they genuinely love what they do. Choosing childcare is one of the most important decision you will ever make for your child and I’m so happy we chose Puddleducks.

I cannot recommend Puddleducks Nursery enough, my son has been there for 3 months now. He took a while to settle in at first but all the staff were so reassuring, they sent me pictures so I could see how he was getting on during the day and they made me feel so at ease. I love the way all the staff
know your baby's name and always acknowledge them around the nursery. Puddleducks offer such a variety of activities, messy play, baking and lovely walks out in the fresh air. They are always improving the nursery and your opinion is counted. The staff are so friendly and always happy to give advise, I totally trust them!


My son now is very settled at nursery and puts his arms out for his key worker when he arrives, we can also see the difference at home, including sleeping better at night.

My son loves going to Puddleducks. He moved from the baby room to toddlers just before Christmas and the transition has been seamless. He has a fantastic bond with his key person, he even asks to see her on weekends and days when he does not attend nursery! We recently attended an information evening
put on by some of the nursery staff, we received loads of useful information and new ideas for play, plus lots of explanations behind how nursery activities are planned, it's really nice to feel so involved in our son's care at such an important developmental stage. Thank you Puddleducks!

A brilliant nursery with outstanding, caring staff. My boy loves nursery, he joined in the baby room, recently transitioning to the toddler room. My Grandson has been attending Puddleducks since he was 8 months old and he is now in the Toddler room. It is a fantastic nursery and can not thank them enough for the effort, energy, care his key worker puts into him. He has recently been toilet training and Puddleducks have been so supportive and
helpful during this time.
The range of activities provided at Puddleducks is excellent, the owner is always investing money and time into the nursery to keep it looking fresh and up to date. She also keeps parents in the loop with changes to the nursery, asks for feedback and takes parent and children views into consideration.
The meals provided at Puddleducks are very healthy, and a varied range of meals.
I have 8 grandchildren who attend various settings and have not found a better nursery than Puddleducks.

A fantastic nursery. Both my children are very happy and settled. My daughter has additional needs and they have helped her so much, going above what is required. My son is so happy there he actually looks disappointed on the days he doesn't go!
They both love the food and are both dairy free which
was no problem and the menu changes frequently.
The Manager and the team know every child and are all friendly and approachable.
It is ten miles from my home but it is the best in the area in my opinion. I can honestly say in the three years my children have attended I have never had any reason to worry, they are all truly amazing and in very safe hands.

Sarah is an experienced Primary School teacher, with over 8 years experience across the primary age range. She has two little ones of her own, now aged 4 and a new baby. Having her own babies sparked her interest in and commitment to opening her own children's nursery. This became a reality on 25th June 2012 when, after many months of planning, Sarah opened Puddleducks Nursery.
