Puddleducks Children's Nursery is rated Outstanding by Ofsted March 2019 and is a multi award winning nursery having been placed in the top 10 nurseries in Yorkshire in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The nursery is owned by an ambitious, experienced primary school teacher. She opened the nursery in 2012, when she had been searching for a nursery for her own little boy. Using her vision and values as a qualified teacher and parent, she created a nursery where every individual baby and child receives unrivalled care. An exceptional curriculum is in place, which ensures children receive a challenging learning experience that prepares them exceptionally well for school.

What is immediately evident is the owner's exceptionally high expectations and drive for the highest standards. The fantastic environment is best appreciated in person.

Puddleducks is conveniently located and easily accessible from many surrounding villages, and on the main commuter route to York for many rural residents.

My daughter started at Puddleducks August 2018 when she was a year and a half. Both my husband and I were very apprehensive about finding a nursery that we could leave our daughter knowing that she will be very cared for, and also help progress in her future development. We went for a look around Puddleducks
and all the staff were so welcoming and happy to show you what the children had been up to that day, you could see the children are all happy.
My daughter has really taken to her key worker, along with all the other staff, and it makes myself and my husband happy to see that she is happy being there, we have no tears and have her waving me off.
You can see the hard work the staff put into creating a lovely environment for the children.

My son was 18 mths old. I didn't want him to go to nursery, he was a very attached child, breastfeeding, sleeping in my bed.


After meeting his key worker I felt at ease. She has a degree in Early Childhood years. I have visited other nurseries in the area, some were in nice period houses or

had more aesthetic displays on the walls, but it's the staff who are the most important feature to me. At other nurseries, they seemed very young and 'zoned out'. Not here, they really seemed to care about my son and the small details.


I have a difficult family set up which they handled brilliantly. I am sure it has taken up a lot of time/resources and any other nursery would probably have said 'no thanks!'


I have also been very impressed with the focus on development and education. My son now sleeps through the night in his own bed. He is much more confident in social situations.


Your child couldn't be in safer hands.

Having used Puddleducks for my son now 5, I did not hesitate to book my daughter (10 months) in on my return to work. What an utter joy it is to be back part of the Puddleducks family! How lovely it is to feel that the happy, welcoming atmosphere still exudes the moment you walk in the door! It is clear
to see they continue to strive for the best care and learning environment for our children. The food is outstanding, such a wonderful variety and is all freshly cooked on site. It is very clean with lovely age-appropriate spaces. The staff are all so caring, friendly and clearly go above and beyond to make each child and parent feel safe, valued and listened to. Communication throughout the nursery is excellent, always including parents in decisions where appropriate. My daughter's transition into Puddleducks has been seamless and we as a family look forward to her journey there and the wonderful learning opportunities ahead! Go and see for yourself, definitely worth a visit. highly recommend!

My little girl has been attending Puddleducks since Oct'18 and I can't recommend them enough. The whole staff team are just wonderful, they go out their way daily to make the nursery environment so nurturing, welcoming and homely. From the home visit they do to the walks into the local village, my baby
girl loves her time with her nursery family and I feel so reassured and happy at leaving her there. The environment is gorgeous, lots of fun messy activities out daily and they have lovely wooden play equipment and toys which my little one loves. She loves the nursery pets and the yummy home cooked food which always looks delicious! Just amazing all round!

Our baby girl started attending Puddleducks recently and we have been so overwhelmed with the wonderful care and attention she receives. The staff team are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble.
Our little girl has allergies and nothing has been too much trouble regarding the preparation of special
meals for her.
The owner is directly involved in the running of the nursery and is clearly passionate about her nursery. It was very reassuring that she was involved with meeting us and communicated personally with us.
We were visited at our home by staff before our baby started, which was just wonderful.
My wife is a teacher, so she was able to ask all of the right questions while we looked round lots of nurseries. Puddleducks stood out from the rest to both of us.
We look forward to our little girl growing and benefiting from such a huge range of opportunities. We feel that the nursery and the team are extended family and are so grateful to them all. We’d recommend without hesitation.

My little boy joined Puddleducks in October 2018 when I was returning back to work from maternity leave. From the first day he started, they have made him and me feel very welcome. The staff are all very polite and remain professional, very easy to talk to and my boy has got a very close bond with his
key worker. The meals they provide are delicious, and there is plenty of activities throughout the day to keep him busy. The communication between staff members and also between management and parents is also fantastic- I think we receive an email a day regarding what's going on at the nursery! I am always kept well informed of my baby's care. It makes going back to work a much easier transition knowing your little one is in safe hands!

My son has been going to the nursery for 4 months now and he has just turned 1. He loves going and the nursery have been excellent with him, he has progressed with his eating (as Mummy is nervous giving him things). The staff are so friendly and reassuring. I frequently email through the day to make
sure he is ok and they reply promptly and at times send me pictures of him which is lovely when you are at work and have worries is he ok. I would not hesitate in recommending Puddleducks to anyone.

My son absolutely loves going to nursery. I was incredibly nervous when he first started but all the staff members are just fabulous and you can really see when the children love it. I have nothing but positive things to say about my son's nursery. I would only ever recommend Puddleducks Children's
Nursery. They allow children to be children and that is what it is all about!

I cannot recommend Puddleducks Children's Nursery enough. They are fantastic in every way. My son previously attended Puddleducks Children's Nursery and now my daughter goes. They both love it there. The staff are really welcoming and create amazing relationships with the children. My son who is almost
6 yrs old has to pop in to see the staff during school holidays.
The nursery is very clean and tidy at all times and the food is all home cooked on site by their own cook.
Puddleducks have a massive range of activities for the children to do and my daughter is always going out for walks or to the mobile library. I can give Puddleducks Children's Nursery and all the staff 5*. The whole setting is amazing.

Both of my daughters have attended this nursery from a very young age and have loved/loving every minute of it. The staff have been exceptional in ensuring that my children are given every opportunity to flourish in a safe and caring environment.
Management and staff are exceptional in the service
that they provide and are always happy and excited to share your child’s day to day experience with you when you collect them. Children receive a varied and healthy menu each day; I wish they would do takeaways for parents!
Staff are well aware of your child’s development and milestone targets and they ensure that they can succeed and achieve these in a fun yet educational way.
Leaving your child to go to work is so much easier knowing that the staff care for your children like one of their own. I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone looking to put their child in an early years establishment. It’s a fantastic place filled with lovely staff and children.

I have a child in each room at this nursery so stand in a great position to give an overall holistic opinion as well as a detailed one. My children are thriving and I am entirely at ease leaving them in the care of the staff. Having come from a service family my eldest child has been to a number of
child care providers. Puddleducks is by far the best.

I did not realise till having a little one of my own about the standards of nurseries and what makes a great nursery, till the time came we had to choose one for our little one. I had heard of Puddleducks along with other local nurseries, so we booked a look around and within the first 15 minutes of
meeting the manager and the team and looking around, I knew it was right for my little boy. He has been there 10 months now and every week we see progress with his learning and development and the new things the team do with the little ones is great and its lovely to pick him up and hear all about the new things and what he has discovered during his time there. The girls are professional, friendly and very approachable and nothing is ever a problem. The menu is different every week and has introduced our little boy to so many different tastes which has helped so much with eating at home. We highly recommend Puddleducks nursery. The care and attention are faultless.

Puddleducks is a wonderful nursery, we have felt welcomed from our first contact. I cannot fault a single member of staff, everyone is so welcoming, they know all the children and make such an effort with them. My daughters have built a great relationship with their key workers who I trust completely.
The food is great, my eldest is a fussy eater but she eats almost everything there! The manager is always striving to improve the nursery, taking on board and acting upon the regular feedback she takes from families. Time outdoors is always encouraged, no matter what the weather, with walks into the village, forest school, free access outside etc. I cannot praise this nursery enough, they have it just right!!

Puddleducks is a very special nursery. The owner has put her heart and soul into creating it and it shows. My children have two wonderful carers who genuinely care for them and learn all their quirks, likes and dislikes. The menu is amazing and even my fussy eaters enjoy most of their meals. They have
work plans every day to ensure that the childrens day is educational and different. The facilities indoors and outdoors are wonderful and my kids can't wait to get to nursery. They especially love the nature walks and the staff always make sure they have some fresh air during the day. They go to the little library and sit and read books together and encourage their reading and counting. I have recommended Puddleducks to two friends and both have sent their children there and they seem to love it too. I never worry about my children when they are there as I know they are well cared for and having fun!

My daughter loves attending Puddleducks. It is so lovely and reassuring to see her so happy at Nursery! The staff are all so caring, even those who work in different rooms will welcome you with open arms and smiles. The activities in the room are all based on at least one child’s current interest. Each
and every child is made to feel safe, secure and loved by all. Children are encouraged to become independent, school ready individuals.
The children are taken on regular walks into the village and to the park as well as having free access to their outdoor area and always seem happy and content. Staff really do all they can to support both parents and children into Nursery. All the staff are more than qualified and hold first aid certificates so I am confident my daughter is in safe hands! The manager is very approachable and cares a lot not only about the children but the families in her care!
Overall, such a lovely nurturing environment.

I would recommend Puddleducks Children's Nursery. Our daughter started in the toddler room and is now in the pre-school room. She settled very quickly and made excellent bonds with her key worker and other staff in the room. It is a lovely, caring environment and you really feel that the staff know
your child well and feel confident leaving them in their care. The food is all cooked on site and there is a varied menu, you also get know how much your child has eaten each day. It really is a fantastic nursery.

Both my children have attended Puddleducks Children's Nursery and I cannot recommend the nursery highly enough. Every aspect of Puddleducks is excellent and they really take their time to get to know each child and family. We will really miss Puddleducks when the time comes for our youngest daughter

I would recommend Puddleducks wholeheartedly to anyone with young children in the area. When I first looked around I knew straight away I would be comfortable leaving my child in their care. There was something very homely yet professional about the atmosphere. It's a wonderfully caring, nurturing,
warm, fun and exciting place to be. I have had a child in the nursery from 2013 and my youngest has currently just moved to the preschool room. Both have always formed extremely strong relationships with their key person and I have valued the care and attention each adult has taken in order to get to know my child and understand their emotional and learning needs.
My youngest is currently loving the Forest School sessions!

Sarah is an experienced Primary School teacher, with over 8 years experience across the primary age range. She has two little ones of her own, now aged 4 and a new baby. Having her own babies sparked her interest in and commitment to opening her own children's nursery. This became a reality on 25th June 2012 when, after many months of planning, Sarah opened Puddleducks Nursery.
