  • St George's Nursery Edinburgh, Edinburgh
St George's Nursery is situated in a wing of the Junior School at St George's School in a leafy residential area of Edinburgh's West End.

They offer exceptional Early Years Education for children from 3 to 5 years of age. Children are welcome to join for the start of the term of their 3rd birthday. The nursery is co-educational.

Set in 15 acres of open parkland, the nursery is conveniently located for families living in Murrayfield, Corstorphine, Edinburgh's West End, Craigleith, and beyond.

The nursery emphasises a truly holistic approach to learning, nurturing every aspect of a child's development—academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. Its tailored curriculum combines innovative learning, outdoor adventures, and a focus on emotional well-being, ensuring that every child builds a strong foundation for future learning.

The curriculum inspires curiosity and creates a love for learning, particularly through STEM education. Children explore coding with robots and interactive games, developing critical skills in problem-solving, logical thinking, and creativity. Through partnerships like the Maths in Motion project with the National Galleries of Scotland, they challenge stereotypes, encourage independent thinking, and inspire children to engage in real-world learning experiences.

Their Outdoor Nursery programme is a core part of the curriculum and a key aspect of the school’s objectives in nurturing the whole child. Their grounds have some of the best outdoor nursery adventure play areas in Edinburgh.

The nursery has one qualified primary teacher who works in the nursery supported by experienced specialist early years practitioners.

Children participate in learning experiences through planned and spontaneous play in PE, ballet, music, drama, art, library, outdoor learning and woodwork.

Free Friday Morning Come and Play sessions are held for babies during term time and booked via Eventbrite.

St George's Nursery has been an excellent environment for my son who is an outgoing and lively little boy. He certainly loves going there too. It is evident that the staff are committed to engaging with the children to provide them with a variety of play experiences. He is suited to outdoor play and
clearly embraces getting messy as he seldom returns in the same clothes that he left wearing. My son has a dairy intolerance which has been no issue at all.

We are absolutely delighted we chose St George's Nursery for our little boy. It is such a small, warm and caring environment and all the staff are so friendly, he warmed to them all immediately. The facilities are excellent and because it is part of a school there are lots of other on-site opportunities
that the Nursery take advantage of (Library, Gym Hall, etc). As parents, we feel happy and confident to drop him off in the mornings because he is so happy to be there and is still happy at the end of the day! Thank you so much to the Nursery Team.

My son started at the nursery this August and we couldn't be happier with the experience we have had. The nursery staff gave us several opportunities to visit, look around and ask questions before he started and made the effort to phone and contact us to check we were happy too. Our son settled very
quickly into the Little Ducklings, thanks to the extremely warm and caring staff. I feel they really got to know him quickly and were able to respond to his individual needs. He is ever so happy being there and really looks forward to going in, playing outside and seeing his new friends. The space and equipment are fantastic. I have loved getting regular updates through the Learning Journal - the photos give you a wonderful little window into the experiences the little ones are having.
Thank you so much to all the staff!

I cannot speak highly enough of St.George's Nursery. All three of our children have attended or are currently attending. The school has got it's recruitment spot on and I can't help but be impressed by the positive attitude of the teachers and carers and the exceptionally professional approach of the
organisation as a whole. The overall effect is a caring, engaging and wholesome environment for the children which is all I can ask for as a parent. Well done St.George's! Superb!

Quality is excellent: staff are well trained and highly motivated by a great work environment. As a choice for nursery, its only drawback is price: being attached to a school, its hours are less than pure nurseries are, but at the same price.

I am so happy that I chose St George's Nursery for my little boy - the staff really are exceptional. They provide a calm, caring and supportive environment for the children and are incredibly enthusiastic and creative in thinking up activities and themes for each term. There is an emphasis on outdoor
play which I am very happy about and the children have access to a large garden area within the nursery as well as a "Fantastical Forest" and the school playing fields and grounds. There is a good balance between planned activities each day (eg music, ballet, time in the school gym) and free play within the nursery rooms. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending St George's Nursery.

The nursery is a fantastic, colourful and vibrant place. I am always very happy to leave my daughter as I know that she will be extremely stimulated and surrounded by wonderful staff and great friends. She is always offered a wide range of activities to chose from, including painting, play-doh, puzzles,
books, dressing up and much more. I know that each day she will go outside and experience some outdoor learning and fresh air. The staff are extremely welcoming and kind and I could not be more happy with the nursery.

St George's Nursery is one of the best nurseries my kids went to - and with three kids and moving several times I know a lot. The care is designed to be very individual and personal between kids and teachers. This helps them settling and supports their self-confidence. Thanks for that wonderful start
- we are looking forward to the next months and years.

We moved our daughter here from another nursery and the change has been incredible. She loves going to St George's and she has developed very quickly in one month. Staff and facilities are outstanding. Only regret was not moving to St George's sooner. Lots of other parents talk highly of the place.

We have been extremely happy with St George's Nursery - it provides an excellent transition year to school. They have distinct ballet, gym, music, library classes and my daughter was absolutely thrilled that they went on an excursion (like they do at big school!). She managed to convince herself that
she was already P1 because they went to an assembly.

The outside play area is lovely; my daughter has enjoyed the woodwork. It has been interesting to hear what she has been learning in relation to literacy as well as general knowledge (nature, animals, transport). The staff are extremely nice and communicative and my daughter is very happy to go every day. Recommend without reservations.

My daughter has settled into the nursery very quickly. It is apparent that the staff care deeply for the children and it is wonderful to hear about the different things they do each day. I feel extremely comfortable leaving my daughter at the nursery. I love seeing how happy all the children are and
it is marvellous that they spend so much time outdoors when the weather permits.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.310)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.310) out of 10 for St George's Nursery Edinburgh is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.881 for St George's Nursery Edinburgh is calculated as follows: ( (75 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.881

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.429 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St George's Nursery Edinburgh is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 number of registered child places is 9.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.729

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
