Rated Good by Ofsted (October 2017), New Cross Nursery & Pre-School provides childcare and education to children from birth to 5 years old.

The Nursery is based in New Cross, close to the station. It's a bright, modern setting with separate rooms and gardens for different age groups.

The experienced staff believe the key to learning is variety. There are lots of activities to try… cooking, science experiments, yoga, woodwork, messy play, and more! The children also love to get out and about, enjoying trips to the park, market and local library. Families can join in the fun too, with breakfasts for mums and dads and tea parties for grandparents.

A dedicated chef prepares all meals using healthy recipes from LEYF’s menu.

My daughter attended the New Cross Community Nursery when she was a baby for 6 months before we left the country for work reasons. On our return to the UK at the start of the year, she rejoined the community nursery and has settled really well due to the warm and welcoming environment.
The nursery
staff are very calm and patient in dealing with people, and our child's safety and development are the primary reasons we love the nursery. Their teaching methods allow for children to progress in a natural way.
The New Cross Community Nursery is highly recommended.

My son has been at nursery for 5 months now and we are so happy with it. Staff are friendly and caring and seem to genuinely enjoy working with babies and toddlers. My son experiences a range of fun activities and I like that there is a balcony, sensory room and soft play room as well as the main room
to keep things varied.
Most importantly, my son loves going to nursery!

This nursery comes highly recommended. They are very caring and attentive. Staff who put the needs of our children first and foremost. The environment is lovely and my daughter is always happy when going/coming from the nursery. I would recommend this nursery to everyone.

The staff are great and I feel very comfortable to leave my kid with the staff. My son is developing well at the nursery. Good menus of a different variety.

My child is happy going to nursery and often doesn't want to leave when we go to collect, which is perhaps the best indicator.
As with most nurseries, there is a relatively high staff turn over but there is a consistent core of staff who are really important in providing stability and bring a lot
of enthusiasm to their roles.
There is a wide range of activities and a nice outdoor space.

LEYF New Cross Community Nursery is fantastic. Both my children attend the nursery full time and have thrived. My son has attended since he was 17 months; my daughter since she was 6 months.

I have been very happy with the level of care, nurturing, communication and support provided by the nursery

staff to me and my children. There is an excellent range of toys, equipment and activities. The baby, toddler and pre-school rooms all have natural light and immediate access to outdoor play space. The food served by the on-site chef is varied and nutritious. All the staff are knowledgeable, friendly and motivated and are encouraged to undertake ongoing training.

The nursery has:
- two male members of staff: great role modelling and important for single mothers like me; and
- excellent standards of safeguarding: by chance I participated in a full emergency evacuation (due to a neighbouring gas leak) which was executed better than my office full of adults has ever managed in ten years.

My daughter has bloomed at the New Cross Community Nursery since she joined at 10-months-old. She has developed in so many ways via her speech, problem-solving skills and her interaction with other children and adults. The nursery itself is a fun and bright environment and I think it provides the backdrop
for more effective learning.
The staff are so approachable and you can tell they love what they do making me more relaxed as a full-time working mother. They are very professional and I am so happy I have found a warm and nurturing place for my child.

Lyfe New Cross is a lovely nursery. The manager is so welcoming every morning and all the parents feel special and she encourages communication between parents which is very comforting for a first time mum. The baby room in which my son is in is lovely and bright. His key worker is amazing and has built
an amazing relationship with him. She reassures me as a mother that my baby will be well looked after and I can see his excitement to get to nursery grow every day. I always love the feedback that she gives me at the end of the day. It makes me feel like I haven't missed anything.

This is a great nursery, but what makes it stand out from the other nurseries in the area is the space. It is a large building, set back from the main road, surrounded by a big playground. The under twos are upstairs and the bigger kids are downstairs. The rooms are so spacious and full of natural light.
The under twos have a balcony area, so have free access to the outdoors. There is also a separate room with cots, so the babies can nap whenever they want rather than having to fit into the nursery routine.
My son joined the nursery when he was 9 months and is now 15 months. He has developed so much over this period. Other great aspects about this nursery are the price, which I think is relatively cheap for the area; the fact that it is a charity, so all profits are reinvested; and the flexibility i.e. I can book my son in for extra days whenever I want.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.838)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.838) out of 10 for New Cross Nursery & Pre-School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.803 for New Cross Nursery & Pre-School is calculated as follows: ( (57 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.803

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.035 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for New Cross Nursery & Pre-School is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 69 number of registered child places is 13.8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.8 = 0.435

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
