My son started attending Little Elms this year and he struggled to settle for his first week and as his mother I was somewhat embarrassed because of his behaviour in the mornings when dropping him off. The staff and the Little Elms teacher were all very understanding and very patient with my son. After
1 week of him attending Little Elms now, as soon as we turn into the school car park, my son is trying to remove his seat belt and telling me bye-bye before he even gets out the car. My son looks forward to attending school and I was very surprised he settled so soon as I thought it would have taken a little longer. It is very reassuring and settling for me his mother that my son is happy. The class teacher sends us updates on an app and we get to see the wonderful progress and activities. We are kept informed and all my queries are responded to in a timely manner. I hope my son continues to flourish as I have seen such a wonderful change in him since he has started at Elmhurst School.

Reply from Charlotte King, Manager at Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School )

Thank you so much for your kind words. It's always a tricky time when we have new joiners, as being so small in comparison to the rest of the school body, children can sometimes be overwhelmed and unsure. But I am an advocate for time and opportunity for my new little ones to settle and be themselves, and when they are, it's such a rewarding moment. I couldn't be more proud of how the settling has progressed, and I am so thankful that you see it too.

My little one attended here for just over a year before he moved up to reception. The managers were amazing. The focus is on all-round learning and my child's happiness and confidence both skyrocketed here. The concerns here are addressed promptly and the small school environment makes it a great environment
for your child to have that much needed attention. When your son cries wanting to go to school at the weekends, you know you've lucked out!

Reply from Charlotte King, Manager at Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School )

Thank you so much for this review. It's wonderful knowing that the boys have the most amazing time, and want to return at the weekends! Making fond memories of school and learning is my aim here in Little Elms and knowing I'm doing just that makes my heart happy!

My son has been attending Little Elms at Elmhurst School for boys for nine months now. All I can say is I am beyond impressed, the growth in his learning has been incredible, his confidence has skyrocketed and he spends most of the week asking when he can go back to the nursery. The teachers genuinely
care about the children and it radiates in everything they do. They have taught me ways to deal with my son's emotions which he sometimes finds overwhelming and the advice has been so valuable to us as a family. I would recommend this nursery to anyone wanting high-quality child care where children genuinely find learning fun. A great head start before they start school for sure.

Thank you so much for this wonderful review. Our aim is to ensure the boys are happy and confident and knowing that we're achieving just that makes my heart melt! Every boy is amazing and celebrating who they are will ensure this follows throughout their life. We honestly love what we do and of course our boys.

Elmhurst is a lovely school where every child is seen as an individual. I love the size of the classes and that the teachers are so intentional with their children. The children are very positive about their time in school and are very engaged with learning. There are amazing teachers alongside the
rest of the team. It's actually like a family!

Reply from Charlotte King, Manager at Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School )

Thank you so much for your wonderful words. We feel the same, the boys are our extended family! It's so lovely being in a small school, it's like the best of both worlds, we know who all the boys are and they know us! We are so happy to know we're delivering the right kind of feel, attention and education.

The Manager and Headmistress are so natural with the boys. They have helped my three-and-a-half-year-old son to settle so well and he loves coming to Little Elms every day. His speech and confidence have developed so much since starting only three months ago, which is a testament to how dedicated they
and the team are at helping the little one's progress. I would highly recommend Little Elms and I'm so happy I moved my son here from his previous nursery last October.

Reply from Charlotte King, Manager at Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School )

Thank you so much for your kind words. We try our best to make sure the boys are settled as this is something that is so important. A happy child is able to experience, grow in confidence and explore the wider world and community. I am so proud of our boys and how wonderfully happy, chatty and curious they are, and i am so proud to see that this is happening and our amazing parents feel the same!

Little Elms Nursery is an exceptional nursery and we are so pleased that we have chosen it for our son. Since starting six months ago, our son has truly thrived and full credit for that must go to the wonderful teachers who have exceeded our expectations. The teachers at Little Elms go above and beyond
for each and every child; providing a loving, nurturing, fun, stimulating, encouraging and personalised learning environment. My son genuinely adores his teachers which is a huge relief when dropping him off each morning; I know he is going to have the best day with them. The nursery is also open all year round which is a real benefit for working parents. So far we’ve had a really positive experience at Little Elms and we would highly recommend it to other parents.

Thank you so much for this wonderful review. We are so pleased to hear that you are happy with us at Little Elms. Every boy is a wonderfully special individual and building those bonds and connections are what is at the heart of what we do. Without the love, care and attention to each boy, we wouldn't get the results we do. He is an absolute joy to have, and thank you once again.

Little Elms has been an inspiration and a great asset to the school! Being a parent, it's so heartwarming to see the enthusiasm my son has for learning purely led by the manager. Her love and devotion to the boys is phenomenal and irreplaceable.
As a parent of three, I didn't think anyone could possibly
tell me something about children that I didn't know but Little Elms has repeatedly surprised me with how well they have been able to extract skills my son has which I am oblivious to. Having used other preschool settings for my children I can safely say none compare to Little Elms. The one to one relationships and nurturing the boys receive is amazing. The teaching element is introduced in such a way that the boys actually love learning, which anyone with sons would agree is a challenge. I could not be happier with the way in which things are run, with the extra peace of mind that no request is too much for them. It truly is beyond anything words can express.

Reply from Charlotte King, Manager at Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School )

This is so beautiful to read! I truly love what I do and am always trying to think of new ways to engage the boys and get them excited about learning. I am blessed to have a supportive team behind me which means my ideas are fostered and bought to life. I am so pleased and so proud to know that what I do not only touches the hearts and minds of the boys but resonates with their parents too, Thank-you once again!

My son started Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School for Boys) last year and has absolutely loved it here from the start. The Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School for Boys) staff and the Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School for Boys) as a whole provide such a loving and caring
environment for the boys to develop and enjoy themselves as they learn. The wide range of activities provided by the school are second to none, including yoga, forest school, I.C.T, French and gardening. During the lockdown, the Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School for Boys) staff went out of their way to make sure they kept in regular contact with us during the school day and also within their own time. They arranged face to face time with my son to find out how he was doing to enable him to continue his learning and allow him to still feel connected to his teachers and classmates. Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School for Boys) has provided a stimulating, fun and caring environment for my son to learn and grow in confidence. I would wholeheartedly recommend this nursery to any parent considering Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School for Boys) for their son.

Reply from Mrs.King, Pre-Reception Lead at Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School )

Thank you so much for this beautiful review. We care so deeply about our boys and love that they enjoy being with us as much as we enjoy having them. We feel no matter the reason, every boy should have the opportunity to join in and be a part of our day, whether they are in nursery or not. We will always make time for the boys who may not attend due to any issue (mostly being restrictions recently) even if this means having a virtual hangout just before bedtime. Who doesn't love a good 'catch up!'.

Our son just turned three and joined Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School for boys) from another nursery. We were initially concerned with him settling in as he really liked his old nursery but we needn't have worried. As no in-person meetings were permitted due to Covid-19, the team at Little
Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School for boys) were very creative in making our son feel connected before he joined. In ways such as setting up a video call and making several video messages. On his first day, they focused on activities and toys that he liked and gave him a super warm welcome. We were impressed with the approach adopted and the efforts made into helping our son settle in. The first week could not have gone any better, our son was raring to go on drop-off and always happy on pick-up. Since joining two weeks ago, he has already become more talkative, about what he was doing at Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School for boys) and is asking more questions about the world around him. We are very happy with the nursery and would highly recommend it.

Reply from Mrs. King, Pre-Reception Lead at Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School )

Thank you so much for this beautiful review. We feel that one of the most important times in a child's life is transition. Sometimes for small children, this can be a really difficult situation to understand. We strive to make sure that our boys feel comfortable, settled and at ease as much as possible and are so delighted to hear that from your experiences, this is what is happening. To know we've offered not only a loving and caring environment to your son, but also made you feel at ease too, is what makes it all worth it. If we can support the transition in as many ways as possible, we will absolutely strive to do this. Welcome to our Little Elms family, we're so happy you're joining us on our journey.

Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School for Boys) is a great nursery and preschool that offers an encouraging and nurturing environment for the boys. My son started in September 2020 and settled in so quickly. The nursery staff are extremely supportive and personalise the learning to the individual
child's ability and development. Besides the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, the boys also get an opportunity to learn French, I.C.T and yoga. It's been an amazing experience at Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School for Boys) and I would be happy to recommend this nursery to other parents.

Reply from Tony Padfield, Headmaster at Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School )

Thank you so much for this wonderful review. We see every boy in our care as an individual and believe it's so important to support them in their individuality and abilities. We love to see our boys learn and thrive and take so much pride in their achievements, and we couldn't be more proud of our not so 'Little Elms'. Having the opportunity to take part in I.C.T, French, PE, Yoga and Music by specialist teachers is an absolutely added bonus!

The simplest and most direct way to describe this nursery/pre-school is from the eyes and demeanour of our son. He is happy, loves the school, loves his teachers, is confident, is learning a lot and loves playing with his friends. He has never once not wanted to go to school. This says/means a lot to
his mum and me, and makes it very easy to drop him off every day - with him leaving us with a confident hug and cheeky smile.

Reply from Mrs.King, Pre-Reception Lead at Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School )

Thank you for a truly wonderful review. We're so pleased that your son feels this way and enjoys coming to Little Elms as much as we enjoy having him with us. Its so important to our boys well being, for them to be happy, content and fulfilled in their learning environment. It's equally as important that our parents feel just as confident leaving their boys in our care. We are so proud of our Elmhurst family and of our Little Elms, and love to hear how much they are enjoying their schooling journey.

Little Elms has been a wonderful place for our son to start his school journey and we are so happy to have chosen Elmhurst School for Boys. The staff are supportive, enthusiastic, fun, nurturing, caring and put the children first in every scenario. Our son loves going to school and the activities he
takes part in are engaging, fun, creative and active. From baking to forest school to computing to painting in the snow, every day he has a new adventure and comes home with exciting stories to tell and experiences to draw on going forward. The class size is small and he is given lots of individualized attention and feedback. He is excited to be starting to read as well as developing his maths skills and we are so grateful to the staff at Little Elms for sparking this love for learning at such a young age! We would recommend Little Elms to anyone, in a heartbeat.

Thank you so much for this review, what wonderful words! We always hope to make the boys day as engaging as possible, but with the intention of making learning 'fun'. Every boy has their own abilities and strengths, and we believe it is fundamental to their education to have activities and learning experiences tailored to their own development. Seeing a boy thrive or learn something new and be able to tell others of their achievements is such a proud moment for us, and we really do cherish this time we have with them, We're so glad you feel the same!

Our son, three years old, started nursery at Elmhurst School for Boys in January 2021. His teachers have exceeded our expectations. They are both warm, welcoming and professional. I appreciate the regular communication, daily progress reports and candidness. They are always available to answer questions,
provide extra assistance and work in partnership with us parents. They tailor the educational experience to the individual boy’s ability and spend one on one time with them daily to ensure the boys reach their full potential. In the short time that our son has been with Little Elms, he has matured and I have seen major improvements with his speech, writing, phonics and manners. In addition, to normal school activities, the boys have Yoga, French, Music and ICT lessons. I am confident that the school are preparing the boys to transition well into reception.

My son started at Little Elms in September 2020 and we couldn’t have wished for a better start to his school life. Elmhurst prides itself on providing a nurturing and personalised education and I can honestly say they live up to this in abundance. My child loves going to school and has made so much
progress in the short time he has been there. The staff are so attentive, caring and mindful of the boys’ experiences, wanting to make them as memorable and enjoyable as possible. From forest school to French to yoga, my child is being exposed to fantastic opportunities. We are very grateful and would recommend Little Elms to any parent.

My child was in Little Elms last year, he loved it. Two members of staff, in particular, were amazing, from helping him to settle to playing with his peers to sharing. It was comforting to see the love outed into him and teaching him the essence of learning through play and structured work. I would
definitely recommend Little Elms.

What a lovely review a year on, thank you! We're so glad that your son enjoyed his time with us in Little Elms. Through love, encouragement and guidance, we hope that we are preparing the boys for their reception journey. It's so lovely to be able to see the boys in the school every day, even though their now 'big boys'. (It still means I can catch up on their growing, home life, likes/interests and the odd cuddle and high five!)

Little Elms is a dream! I could not have chosen a better pre-school for my son. The staff are warm and friendly and show genuine care and passion for the welfare and development of each of the children. I particularly like the emphasis on teaching the children to be independent, preparing them for reception,
while being attentive to their individual needs and creating a safe space for the expression of their feelings. My son tells me every day how much fun he’s had from playtime on the pirate ship to forest school to yoga. I cannot recommend this school enough!

Good school, very caring. Our son is happy to go to school, lots of individual care. Staff work tirelessly from early morning to late in the evening, we get emails about homework or work we can do at the weekend, which is really amazing.
Lots of initiatives, forest school, and lots of communication
from school which is really appreciated. There is a video channel, and they try to make the most of lockdown with online meetings and get-togethers. Highly recommended.

I will highly recommend Little Elms to any parent looking for a nursery for their little one.
The nursery provides a very nurturing and secure atmosphere which is vital for the growth of young minds. They feel welcomed and are at comfort in the environment. The office staff is very helpful and very
welcoming. One member of staff, in particular, is a lovely nursery teacher who is very approachable and always there to discuss any issues and support the kids. And another member of staff has amazing patience and creativity that keeps them engaged and learn things while having fun. My son is so proud to be an Elmhurst boy and loves to go to school. Thank you Little Elms!

A great nursery, with a family feel, which has given two of my sons an amazing start. I'm very fortunate to have had the nursery teacher look after my youngest last year, and not only is she all-round lovely person, but my son has progressed in reading and maths beyond our expectations. On top of that
the leadership team under the head of the lower school is always there if there are any questions or issues. Thank you Elmhurst!

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.750)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.750) out of 10 for Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School ) is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

The Average Rating of 5.000 for Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School ) is calculated as follows: ( (24 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Little Elms Nursery (part of Elmhurst School ) is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 16 number of registered child places is 3.2. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 3.2 = 0.625

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Little Elms Lead

Hi, my name is Mrs King and I am the Pre-Reception Lead here at Elmhurst School for Boys.

I absolutely adore my career and love being able to share in the boys love of learning. Supporting the boys learning with new ideas, structure and awe and wonder makes every day a fulfilled one.

I started in the childcare sector at 17 years old working my way up from Room Leader (after receiving my level 3 Qualification in Child care - CACHE) to a Deputy Director of a cluster of nurseries. Being able to support my staff team and help create a vision with the child at its heart was wonderful, but I missed working directly with the children with each day. I studied independently to gain my level 4 (Open University) hoping that this would give me insight into new ideas and theories about children and their learning. I passed in 2018 and although enjoyed the learning, I then decided to be more hands on and found myself at Elmhurst.

Having a son myself, I knew being with boys was going to be fun, energetic, and 'messy' and wow I was indeed correct. Every day is great and being supported with my own visions as well as working within the school, has been incredibly fulfilling.

I want to be able to offer learning where it's not only adult structured but with the ability to be guided by the boys themselves. This way they take their learning in their own hands and begin to form not only a love for it but also want to learn more, go further and push their own abilities. I feel we offer this in abundance and I am always so happy to hear great feedback from my wonderful parents. Communication is absolutely key in this industry!
