Norfolk House Nursery in Harborne Road, Edgbaston, provides childcare and early years education to children aged from three months to five years in a happy and fun environment.

Situated on the Calthorpe Estate, the nursery is set in a large building that has been fully refurbished to a very high standard and includes spacious, bright and vibrant rooms with a large secure garden.

Children can enjoy a wide range of activities and classes at the nursery such as Baby Ballet, Rhythm Time, Jazz-Mataz, Bhangra Tots and many more.

Healthy eating is strongly encouraged within the nursery and children are offered delicious and nutritional meals and snacks that are freshly prepared by the on-site cook.

An enthusiastic and dedicated team of staff strive to provide a high level of childcare in a caring and stimulating environment, and using a Key Person system close relationships are formed with both children and parents, keeping parents informed of their child's progress at all times.

From the moment we entered the nursery, we knew it was the right fit for our daughter. She started at 8.5 months in Babies 1, and the staff immediately made us feel welcome. They create a nurturing and fun environment, and my daughter settled in quickly. At first, she struggled with mealtimes in the
new setting, but thanks to the support of the staff and her key carer, she now eats most, if not all, of her meals. Their patience and encouragement made all the difference. The nursery also celebrates all cultures, incorporating fun activities throughout the year to honor different traditions. The creative daily activities, from baby ballet to rhythm time, engage my daughter and help her develop new skills. We feel so lucky to have found a place where our daughter is not only cared for but truly thriving, and we're grateful for the dedication and warmth of the staff.

My children have attended NHN since April 2021 with my now 4 year old and my 2 year old who is currently attending. NHN have met the individual needs of my children from 10 months old, as well as my need for reassurance as a first time parent entering childcare.
I receive detailed daily reports and
regular pictures of my children carrying out activities in line with the birth to three early years framework.
A variety of meals are provided as well as recipe ideas to take home which is brilliant as my children sometimes eat better at nursery than they do at home.
There is a warm indescribable care that we have received from the unique care provided by the staff team.
It is so difficult to place your children in the care of others and we are happy with the choice we have made placing our children at NHN.

We've had a fantastic experience since our toddler joined at 10 months old. She settled in very quickly. The staff in Baby Rooms 1 and 2 are caring, attentive, and always making sure she feels safe and happy. It's clear they truly care about the children, and we've always felt comfortable leaving her
in their care. They're also great at communicating with us and respond quickly to any questions or concerns we have.

I transitioned my boy to NHN - Harborne Road in October 2024.. he's an October baby so it felt really important that he was in a pre-school set up that was equipped to prepare him for school the following year. Within the first 2 weeks I noticed a huge improvement from feedback directly from my son..
he started to tell me what he'd been doing with his day, singing new songs and making friends who he talked about outside of nursery! He was apprehensive about the change but it's safe to say we have never looked back.. he loves his days and looks forward to special days like when he can go to forest school.. he thrives in NHN and the feedback I receive from the practitioners makes me really feel like they know and most importantly understand my son's personality and needs. We've very recently met with the health visitor too, again a very lovely and helpful experience. I would recommend NHN to any child and can't thank the staff enough for the love they poor into my boy daily.. thank you!

Great nursery, my boys love it here. The weekends cannot finish early enough for them to go and be with all their friends and nursery staff. Staff are friendly and children always look happy and cared for.
I really appreciate how they try and involve the family in nursery activities like they stay
and play sessions.

My daughter has come on leaps and bounds in the preschool room at this nursery. The extra activities and events the staff create are a particularly wonderful part of this nursery, whether it’s a nursery disco party, visits from animals, forest school, rhythm time, a visit to a library, a baby chino
in a cafe, leapfrog or tennis there are some really fabulous activities that keep the children so entertained and the weeks varied. The staff go above and beyond to make sure drop-offs are a good experience for parents and children and are all such warm, friendly people who are always smiling.

My daughter has been attending the nursery since she was 11 months old. She started off at the Babies 1 room and then moved up to the Babies 2 room. I get the sense the staff do everything they can to help her settle in and get to know her. The staff are very responsive to any concerns or questions
I may have about my daughter and answer all my queries. I get a full picture of how her day has been at the end of every day. It is clear that my daughter learns lots of new things at the nursery. She really enjoys stories and music and the nursery offers plenty of activities that she finds stimulating and fun. I feel that she is in caring and capable hands while she is there. I would highly recommend this nursery.

Like the environment and people.
My kid likes to be in the nursery and people who take care of the kids.
Would be good to upgrade the nursery app to make tracking of my kid's daily routine more digital, so that I can check any moment when I want, especially the menu for the day.

Thank you for your review and feedback. As we have discussed with parents, we feel that the way we communicate is much more personal and we can get to know the family better. The menus can be found on nursery boards, are handed out and on the website so please feel free to pick up another one. We also feel very strongly about children seeing staff with pen/paper not staring at a computer screen. Emails are sent daily and families are encouraged to call if they have any questions. The key workers' time is much better spent with the children, as you can imagine messages from numerous parents daily will take up so much of their time, we feel that's best spent with the children and if there are any concerns we will call the parents, otherwise we discuss the day upon collection. The nursery has been superb. I have really enjoyed sending my daughter to Norfolk, the staff have been great and very attentive towards her and her needs.
Anytime we have asked or needed something from the nursery they have really helped us out! They are very accommodating and I would highly recommend
sending your child here.
My daughter only attends once a week but she has learnt so much and she is very happy going there and enjoys her day with the staff and activities. Although she only attends one day she has learnt a lot, this is great as the staff is teaching her and she is developing fast. Quite commendable!

My little boy has been coming to this nursery for well over 12 months now and his progress has been phenomenal. The facilities for the children to learn and play are brilliant. My little boy always has fun at nursery and enjoys going back. They always have a calendar every month full of activities daily,
that the children will be doing in all of the stationed rooms. They also have extra curricular activities, trips and people to come to the nursery to do different things with the children. I really cannot recommend this nursery any higher to anyone, absolutely perfect nursery for my child to flourish, that perfect my little girl will be coming here also when I go back to work.

My daughter has been going to Norfolk House Nursery since Jan 2021 (she joined babies 2), and I couldn't sing their praises higher. The nursery had and continues to do its utmost to make you feel at ease and create a warm welcoming space, second only to home. The facilities are brilliant, with beautiful
open and creative spaces, and an amazing garden too. My daughter has grown tremendously in skill, character and confidence and I massively credit this to Norfolk House Nursery HR. My daughter has transitioned between the rooms with ease and joy, and everything is a result of the staff (both office and rooms). Everyone is so attentive and responsive to my needs as a first-time parent, as well as my daughters, needs, which have adapted from baby to young lady. The manager and her team are like a family and hands-on with everything, they're fantastic and have been instrumental in my and my daughter's respective journeys. Norfolk House is a great setting for my three-year-old son, who is currently in the preschool room. He has been there since he was eight months old and has thrived, always making great connections with the staff and other children. The extracurricular activities the nursery organises are fantastic,
including tennis, football, forest school and rhythm time. We also loved the Xmas performance and all of the artwork and baking the children do throughout the year. I highly recommend the nursery to other parents.

Hayley Fox

Job Title: Senior Nursery Manager

Joined: 2009

I am Hayley Fox, the Senior Nursery Manager. I oversee all three of our nurseries, sharing my time between them and working closely with the Nursery Managers who are responsible for their day-to-day operation. We have found that this arrangement further enhances the level of service we are able to provide and keeps us at the very forefront of Early Years education.


I have worked in Early Years education for 22 years. I started work at our Norfolk Road setting in April 2009, some five months before it opened its doors. I have therefore been able to recruit staff, plan and implement policies, and develop best practices in all areas from the Nursery’s very inception. My own daughter attended the Nursery and progressed through every age group, which has enabled me to view it from a parent’s perspective.

I am Alison Galbraith, the Nursery Manager at Harborne Road. I joined Norfolk House Nursery in July 2014 when we first opened our doors. I have worked in Early Years for 20 years and enjoy my chosen career very much, I love that no day is the same! I enjoy working with my team, the parents and most importantly the children!


I oversee the day to day running of the nursery alongside my management team ensuring that all children are not only offered the highest standards of care and education but that it is tailored to meet every child’s needs in a safe, secure and enabling environment, where all children are comfortable and happy. My own son has attended the nursery since he was 9 months old and has made great achievements in all of his development, I couldn’t be happier!
