St John’s Nursery, registered since 1981, is a Charity Committee-run provision, which is made up of parents who work with the staff to give care and education to children.

The nursery, situated in Redhill, has three playrooms, a 1000 sq foot garden and a kitchen area. The nursery offers breakfast, lunch and tea clubs, flexible hours and accepts FEET funding for two-year-olds and three and four-year-old government funding. The nursery is a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance.

The nursery understands that children are their own educators – natural learners with ability, curiosity and imagination. The nursery provides the opportunity and tools to enable all the children to be secure, happy and become independent. The setting has three SENCo's that help support children with additional support.

The nursery is also a member of the Children's Centre advisory board, The Phase Council and also involved in the SEND Commissioners within Surrey County Council.

It only seems like yesterday that our son was starting at St John's Nursery.
From his first day, he was always eager to attend, he would say who he would be playing with and who he would be talking to on the way to Nursery.
The staff were always very happy, helpful and friendly.
It was always a
joy to hear the other children, welcome our son each morning.
He really enjoyed his time at St John's Nursery.
The staff are absolutely brilliant and always went the extra mile to ensure a safe learning environment for the children.
We wish that St John's Nursery thrives and continues to provide tomorrow's children with the same learning skills that they gave to our son.

St John's is a great nursery. My little one loves going to the nursery. Because is not a massive nursery, the kids have the opportunity to play with all kids, the teachers are amazing and so loving towards the kids. I recommend and I'm sure my little one is gonna miss it when they go to school.

My son joined the nursery shortly after the term started in September and the experience so far has been really pleasant. St John's was one of our best selected nurseries for my son because it felt like an at home and safe environment for my child. The staff are all very friendly and very attentive
to my son and his needs. They made my son settle into nursery life quiet easy and his transition has been impressive.
The staff at the nursery all makes sure we parents are always kept up to date with the day to day activities of my child and the progression he makes. All in all, I'm glad with the choice of nursery for my child and I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone opting for a preschool for their child.

More like family than a nursery! My son has been attending since September and he has learnt so much in such a little time. He loves going in and seeing all the staff just as much as his new friends. Singing, playing and learning in so many different ways has meant that he is improving in his speech
every single day. The staff actually care about all the children and it shows every single time I pick up my son.

Our little girl has been attending St John’s Nursery since she was 2 and we are so happy we chose this nursery for her. The staff are simply amazing, they genuinely care about all of the children and my daughter adores them. There are always new and exciting activities every day for the children, including
small world play, messy play, water play, role play to name just a few! The garden is great, with so many different sections for the children to explore and they often go on nature trails in the surrounding area. We will be sending our younger daughter there when she turns two. Cannot rate this nursery highly enough!

Such a fantastic nursery and the staff are all absolutely amazing, kind and caring individuals who definitely make the nursery so special from any other! The staff, from day one, have been incredibly welcoming and supportive! My daughter has been with St John’s Nursery - Redstone Lodge since June 23,
and in the short amount of time of her joining, so far, she is absolutely thriving; there is so much encouragement and support from the staff to try new and different things. My daughter's confidence is shining through more and more, day by day, and it is honestly so heartwarming to see what an incredible job the staff are doing! My daughter adores all the staff, ‘her teachers’ and the children; she gets so excited to go in every single time. I could not fault this nursery or the staff in any way; it is truly amazing what they are doing there! My daughter is now a full-time toilet user, which I felt wasn’t going to happen for a while, and it’s all a big thank you to the staff!

The dedicated staff give my little one fantastic attention and understands him as an individual attending to his needs and attitude while constantly pushing his boundaries and challenging him.
As parents, we receive daily updates, and we think St John’s is a fantastic nursery and the perfect segway
to school.

A fabulous nursery school! The caring nature of the staff makes the nursery so welcoming and fun for the little ones.
Both my children have attended and had a great experience. My youngest has attended since she was two. Initially, she struggled with separation anxiety due to Covid, but the amazing
staff made her experience much better and made her feel happy and secure.
Learning through play is followed via EYFS, and you can see your child develop.
The garden is big, time outside is encouraged, and it’s not super squeaky clean, but that’s the appeal, as the children can get muddy and enjoy their playtime!
My child has a dietary requirement and bathroom trouble, which is handled with such care and compassion.
Thoroughly recommend St John’s.

I have three children, all of which, have come through St John's Nursery, my youngest currently attending. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and the communication from staff to parent is amazing. My youngest has found it hard to transition into the nursery, and the staff have gone above and
beyond to accommodate and meet his needs, putting things into place and really getting to know his likes and interests. It is clear that St John's staff are all passionate about the children in their care, and this shows by the progress my child has made. Great outdoor space and loads of varied and exciting activities for the children to enjoy.

Both my children have attended St John (lodge site). My son is still there for another year. We never cease to be thoroughly impressed by the team at the nursery, particularly the deputy manager. The whole team are a compassionate, hardworking and caring group of individuals who really have the children’s
best interests at heart.
Our child has additional needs, and whilst not in a specialist setting, they have provided what he needed without hesitation. They have supported him to be the best he can, and he is flourishing in their care.
They also support us as a family in what is sometimes a tough journey.
I really cannot praise them more highly!

I cannot fault this nursery in the slightest. My daughter absolutely loves going here and adores all of her teachers. Parents are always kept in the loop of anything going on, and any issues are always dealt with swiftly and efficiently. Each and every one of the members of staff is lovely, always welcome
the children with the biggest smiles and never has my daughter not wanted to go in! I will be so sad for her to leave this term to start Reception but feel happy in knowing that in the last two years she’s spent at the nursery, she’s built some amazing bonds and friendships and has had the most amazing start to “school” life!

St John's Nursery Redstone Lodge is an absolutely amazing place, with wonderful, creative staff who are always happy to do and go the extra mile to accommodate the needs of children and parents. Through fun and laughter, they teach children useful skills and build confidence and self-esteem. Our daughter
enjoyed every minute spent at the nursery, and I know that she'll miss everyone there enormously. Massive thank you to the incredible team at the nursery for all their efforts and commitment and for making every day an unforgettable adventure.

Both my children have attended this nursery. I have nothing but praise for the staff who work there. They are all such warm, caring, lovely and experienced people, which makes me feel reassured that they're in good hands. My little boy struggled when he started, and in the first few weeks, I'd call
shortly after drop off to check he was ok; they were always so understanding and never made me feel like I was a burden, which was appreciated. Plus, he comes home filthy most days, so I'd say that's a sign that he's having lots of fun!

Following the lockdown, we were concerned about how our 2-year-old son would get on at nursery. Well, we chose the perfect nursery for him to overcome any of those worries. He has thoroughly enjoyed his time at St John's Nursery, and his family have commented that his confidence has already grown after
just a few sessions. The team are so thoughtful and kind; they set up a farm scene on a tuff tray because they knew my son loved farm animals. They made playdough with him using pig cutters because he is a big fan. Little touches like this really reassure us as parents that he is in the best hands possible. Our key person is like a 3rd parent - we trust her implicitly and know she has our son's welfare and development as her priority. Cannot fault St John's Nursery - will be sad when he heads off to school.

My daughter currently attends the nursery and having worked in one myself I know how hard it is. However, the nursery is extremely well run, the staff are supportive and my daughter who was very clingy and sad at first, has shone through so much. She loves going, she loves the staff and runs off to
enjoy her day. Interesting activities, children are outside as much as possible in a fantastic garden, the children are allowed to be children and play in a natural and stimulating environment. I genuinely feel the staff care and my daughter has a great relationship with them all and they all know her well. Even given the current situation with Covid, they have stepped up to ensure that changes have been made to allow children and parents to feel safe whilst still continuing to maintain a fun learning environment for the children.

An amazing nursery which I can’t recommend highly enough. My eldest son went from the age of 3 and loved going there and now my youngest has started aged just 2 in August and is equally loving nursery the couple of mornings he goes. The staff are so nurturing and caring and I have no concerns about
leaving my son with them. The garden is huge and both my boys loved the space especially the mud kitchen and sand pit. It’s such a relaxed friendly and caring environment I wouldn’t want my children to go anywhere else and I always recommend the nursery on the parent networks. Definitely worth a visit if you need a fantastic nursery for your children. Two happy boys make a happy mummy so thank you St John’s Nursery Group.

Thank you for such a wonderful review. We are so pleased that both your sons have (and still are) enjoying their time here in nursery. You mentioned the garden, this weekend we have added new resources (Climbing A frame, water wall, music wall, pallet car, art station, role shop) which has been fabulous watching the children exploring them and extending their play ideas.
Thank you also for recommending us on other networks too. I will pass your kind words on to the staff as they will be pleased that we are offering that homely caring environment for your children. Thank you once again for taking the time to review us.

I am thrilled with my daughter’s experience at St John's Nursery so far. She only started in September and has settled in so quickly!
I was worried I would feel out of the loop because my little girl attends two mornings a week on the days I work but I have already been invited to a settling in parents
evening and the nursery send daily emails about what has been available in the setting and what she has eaten at lunch etc. The communication between staff and parents is second to none and this is so important when the children are so young and can’t remember everything themselves.
My daughter is happy and feels safe and the staff are helpful and plan lovely activities to support the children in their development, according to the EYFS learning goals.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this nursery and would like to thank the staff for all they have done for us in the short time my daughter has attended.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. We are so pleased to hear that your daughter is enjoying nursery. It is important to have the feedback on how we work in partnership with parents and how effective we are with effective communication. We are pleased to hear that the daily emails and parents evening was useful. We are also looking at some social events so parents can meet up and get to know other parents and these will be in the form of quiz nights, family craft days, local fair events and our family fun day.
If you would also like to be involved or have suggestions on how we can improve any of our services we would love to hear from you.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.675)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.675) out of 10 for St John's Nursery - Redstone Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.875 for St John's Nursery - Redstone Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (85 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.875

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St John's Nursery - Redstone Lodge is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 number of registered child places is 6, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
