Breaside Preparatory School Early Years offers a happy learning environment for children from the age of two and a half years, where they are motivated and encouraged to learn and discover. The experienced early years teaching staff create a positive and wonderful environment for the children, where children can take part in both learning through play and teacher initiated activities.

The curriculum prepares children for the senior schools of choice through a balanced and broadly based education, from their first days in early years through to the age of 11. They believe in getting the basics right and teaching the core subjects with a mixture of traditional teaching styles with the more modern approaches to learning.

Breaside has been awarded Millie’s Mark! This is a great achievement as a school, and they are grateful for all the hard work and commitment from their staff towards helping them to exceed health & safety and paediatric first aid requirements.

The school has an excellent record of academic success with impressive KS1 and KS2 results well above the national average. 100% of pupils gained their first choice at Senior School. Ranked 11th in the Top 100 Independent Preparatory Schools in England, featured in the Sunday Times Schools Guide 2019.

In September 2023, Breaside expanded with the opening of a second site on Widmore Road. This new site offers the same exciting learning environment with a holistic approach to education. The expansion includes bright Early Years classrooms and extended outdoor learning spaces, including a Forest School.

Our son has attended the prep school since Oct 2019. In the time he has attended Breaside we have noticed how his confidence, understanding and verbal skills have grown. He is always happy to be dropped off to school, this is a reassuring feeling for me. I strongly believe my child’s contentment at
Breaside is due to the nurturing environment the attentive prep team provide to the children; as well as the array of activities, they engage in to make learning fun.
I look forward to the staff weekly updates on my son’s progress as you can see the team really know him and the photographic insights into his week are heartwarming.
The school have worked extremely hard to ensure Covid-19 causes little as possible disruption to learning.
Lastly, I would like to commend the welcoming family-like environment the school exhibits, this is evident from my school drop-offs and pick ups.

Thank you for such lovely comments which are really appreciated by all the Early Years Staff. It is so wonderful for you to commend us on our family-like feel as this is something we are so proud of and work very hard to create. Our Breaside children and families are so important to us and we value each and every one of them.

We have noted and welcomed staff perseverance as our son, youngest in his class so far, does struggle when he is brought to school, only for the first five to ten minutes. But members of staff have been every so patient and available when he arrives.
We have seen the last couple of weeks, our son been
to talk and describe what he has done during the day. A positive sign of his development and the attention he is subject to.

Excellent care from the early years team. My child is happy and content at nursery. There should more options for vegetarians at lunch.

Both of my children have attended Breaside and have been extremely happy here. From the moment they have joined the pastoral care given to help settle them into the setting and keep me informed has been excellent. It is especially helpful to have regular updates via the tapestry app with photos and
notes showing what the children are up to.

The early year's facilities are brilliant, especially the outdoor facilities, and both my children have developed hugely during even a short time at Breaside due to the variety of activities and learning methods used.

Outside of the classroom activities, my daughters have particularly enjoyed yoga, music and PE as well as the ad hoc activities such as theatre company visits and the science museum visits.

The staff are always extremely approachable and helpful and seem to really care about the children. This is particularly reassuring if you are a working parent utilising the wrap around care - breakfast and after school club

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.846)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.846) out of 10 for Breaside Preparatory School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.958 for Breaside Preparatory School is calculated as follows: ( (69 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.958

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.888 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Breaside Preparatory School is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 104 number of registered child places is 20.8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 20.8 = 0.288

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have been in Early Years education for 13 years now, working my way up from a Level 2 apprentice, then becoming a Kindergarten Room Leader which I have loved for the past 8 years. I have experience in both year groups and use my breadth of knowledge to support our amazing Early Years team here at Breaside. Having the pleasure of watching the children grow throughout the Early Years, and then the school, is inspiring to see as this really is the foundation of their learning careers.

As well as Early Years Lead I am also the Early Years First Aid Coordinator and the EYDSL. I feel very privileged to have these additional roles as I get the opportunity to widen my development in different areas of the school.
